WSOP 2019: Hotel deals & tips WSOP 2019: Hotel deals & tips

Hey guys,

I am starting to plan my trip to Las Vegas this summer to play a couple tournies during the WSOP. I am thinking about a trip of approx. 7 - 10 days, begin June or begin July.

This will be my first trip to Vegas during the WSOP (been to Vegas 2 times before).

My question(s) here;

Are there special rates or hoteldeals or whatever that I should consider?
Are there any other things I should consider for a trip during the WSOP?

Thanks in advance!

You might want to pick up the Buffet Of Buffet pass for $50. Gives you access to all ceasar properties for 24 hrs. Or in short access to the Rio buffet for breakfast, lunch, dinner and again breakfast. I plan on the same idea when I attend a few back to back events.

book in advance if it makes you comfortable as you can always cancel.
but in the past the vast majority of dates get cheaper on total rewards properties the closer to the date of your stay.
of course sometimes they go up so it is smart to book now in case it happens- and just cancel and rebook when they drop.

You are correct - but all you need to do is log on to the online reservation sites and then notify the Caesar property of the better rate and they will give it to you for your existing reservation. Did this several times last year and it worked like a charm. Be aware that ONLINE rates and direct book rates are different (even when done thru the Caesar property Total rewards card site) The online sites are almost always a bit cheaper BUT if you book direct with the Hotel (RIO) again once you can prove the rate they typically match it ( I email PDF of the rate quote). Worked like a charm for Hotels and rental cars No one wants to over pay for a room even if you are willing to risk $7 - 10K on entry fees. (well at least not ME LOL )

I am a pretty good cheapskate/lowballer, i certeainly recommend staying on the strip and then going to Rio a couple of times for the tourney you want to play or just to play cash once or twice. Of course i am not much of a tourney guy. The Rio cash games are good, but as you will hear and experience, the dealers are not real good, Chairs absolutely suck, and at times it can be a wait to get a seat. Certainly go and experience for yourself, got to do that...

Another suggestion, dont over plan things, just go with it. Stay on the strip cause it is still Vegas and if you only been a couple of times.... use Bravo and call ahead to the room you want to hit next, hit all the rooms lime Bellagio, Aria, Venetian, Caesars and Wynn to experience life in Vegas during wSOP, it is truely crazy for a poker player.

Food, hit Dirt Dog outside Ballys, if you are there 7 or so days take a late morning and head to Ellis Island for some food and $2.50 microbrews, 20oz beer for $2.50. Drink some sleeping medicine and go back for a good refreshing nap one day.

Ohh, play drunk poker at Planet Hollywood one night in to the early hours

You couldnt pay me $50 to do this at the Rio (pretty sure I wouldn’t do it for 100)

I stay on the strip, then Uber to Rio for WSOP tournaments. Usually I stay at The Stratosphere and buy a 3-day Deuce pass to navigate the strip (get there near noon and come back after midnight). The bad thing is that it takes around 30 minutes to get from, say, Planet Hollywood back to The Stratosphere late at night.

You can also go to Downtown from The Stratosphere with The Deuce. Staying at The Stratosphere and using The Deuce may be slow but it saves money. Last year I also stayed at Planet Hollywood for the convenience but that was significantly more expensive (still loved it).

By the way, the Aztec Inn across the street from The Stratosphere has a good breakfast deal. Something like $3.99 for two eggs, bacon, and toast. Good way to start the day!

Thanks for all the replies so far!

I'm not really looking for the cheapiest way to spend the trip, but was wondering if there are any extra deals the hotels are providing due to the WSOP. I think locationwise I prefer the strip (mid-strip let's say between monte carlo and the wynn).

With that - are there gonna be a decent amount of bracelet events after july 3rd? The schedule so far is not really convincing

Often the hotels will advertise WSOP special pricing when you are looking at rooms. At least, this has been my experience when booking through total rewards. My suggestion would be to log into your total rewards or M life account, book your hotel directly, but also NOT to opt for the special WSOP deal. For whatever reason, the WSOP "deal" always costs more than what the hotels will advertise. It might just be me but don't be afraid to tinker with all of the other offers they have. I've never seen one deals better than the ones offered directly through TR or Mlife. Often, third party sites will make the deal appear better but they won't include the resort fees.

have fun!

Not personally confirmed but it has been reported on 2 + 2 posters that WSOP tweated that the full schedule will be released this coming week. Jan 7 - 11.

Geez I wasn't thinking along the lines of a pig fest. Simply stating since your there at Rio as I will playing WSOP Senior Event why not have the convenience.

When I`m grinding 12 - 16 hrs in a tourney I want ease of access to a meal with some variety. This is my main point.

Oh Rio food can be disheartening.

Keep checking Mlife and Total Rewards. prices will definitely drop as Summer nears. Good chance there will be some really cheap options. If you want to go toward the nicer end; keep an eye on the Aria Poker room-usually have a nice rate. I personally have been staying downtown for several years. I just get so much more value in rooms, food, and my other gambling en-devours.

I’ve stayed at Bally’s twice, for a week each time. I’ve been more than pleased with it. Center strip, close to everything. BLT Steakhouse there is pretty good too.

If you’re not a member already, join mgm mlife and Caesar’s total rewards at no cost. This may give you access to cheaper rates than just booking straight through the hotel. Mlife always gives me lower rates than being a non member and I only play poker there.

There are some decent rates to be had at a number of properties if you book now. You can always tweak the dates once all of the schedules have been released.

I'm willing to pay a little extra for someplace like Vdara and got one of their corner units for under $100 per night. It's worth it to me since I will have the kitchen and the washer/dryer unit in the room which saves on some other ancillary costs. The initial booking was for roughly two weeks and was booked directly through the MLife site...

I have always had a special fondness of downtown. Just something about the blue collar vibe. I find the strip very mopey.

Im planning to go to Vegas this year again for WSOP and looking for a flat

Last time I stayed at Rio, and I just hated, i like to cook my food and prepare some health things...

I ck at AIRBNB some places in front of RIO, its a good deal (there is some other site I can research about rooms)?

Gonna need a car to go to WSOP? if possitive, the best way is get at the rentals at airport? or there some better price for long time period?

Thank you

Depending on what you planned on spending and whether the Mlife rewards program works for you (which can be spun easily into the Total Rewards Diamond with the promo right now), Vdara gives you kitchen and washer/dryer in your room- depending on dates, you can find Vdara rooms for not much over $100 per night. If you can qualify for the Mlife credit card, you would be landing in Vegas at Pearl status and you might find some decent deals at various Mlife properties (which includes Vdara). If you were going to be out there for the full month, you can actually get even better deals on the room since Vdara does not bill any resort fee on a monthly rental.

A room in front of the Rio on the other sites is likely going to be Palms Place. I have never stayed there but they look nice. I had them on my list of places to look at when I was considering a purchase but the lack of washer/dryer in the room was a drawback in that regard. There is something to be said for the ease of just putting stuff in the washer before you go to bed and not have to lug the laundry around to a nearby laundromat...after all, that cuts into time that could be spent playing cash games or other recreational pursuits in the down-time from tournaments

Having your own car is a personal preference. I have never worried about getting one in all of my trips to Las Vegas. I either walked most places or took a cab. Getting to Rio has been done with a cab although it is easily walkable from Gold Coast (although that does not give you your cooking facilities in the room). I walked it last year and it is not a bad walk even in the middle of June.

For renting a car, price the off-airport locations...many places have higher fees when the car comes from the airport rental location. Some of the hotels will have an onsite desk for stuff like Avis or Enterprise. From comments on many different forms, avoid Sixt at all costs even though they will often show to be the cheapest. MANY complaints about bogus charges for damage...
