How deep are you to start the hand - what's the effective stack size? If <100bb I'd be folding pre. Post seems fine as played if we're taking a flop
I bought in for 200, and end up winning a few hands prior stacking up to about 280.
Guy who called sucked out right before also and had a stack of about $500-600.

Also, guys ive played everywere on the strip about and alot of the grinders hit the strip in hopes of the fish. The RR has a great poker room welcoming just about any new player staying at the hotel. Dont get me wrong the room has a bunch of regs but with me going almost everyday i know the regs and can pick the fish table pretty easily. I know the "seater" also (dont know what you would call his postion) and usually sits me on the fish table. (I met him from the poker room but ended up exchanging numbers when he randomly popped up at my work before a session at Caesars.)

Tonight i went to the South point because i had to drop off one of my co-workers that lived right by it. The wait was terrible and was very slow and decided to throw $40 on a 5 min Black Jack table, Have not played Black jack before on a LIVE table and decided to blow some money until i got seated. (I know black jack is the devil lmao but i had never played and decided i could blow $40 dollars for the experience.)

I was on FFFFFIRRRRRREE. Ended up running it to 415 until i cashed out and tipped the dealer 15 because he told me what to do every-hand. Got the 4 Big $100 chips and headed to the poker room. (Trust me i know i got lucky and wont blow my money on a house advantaged game anytime soon.)

Got to the poker room and they ended up just starting a new table, which im always happy about.

Nothing really to interesting, Played pretty tight and I cashed out about +45.

One hand that i played TERRIBLYYYYYYYYY though.

I get 89 in MP.

a couple limpers in front of me so i decided to just throw a limp and see what other action pops. Late position limps, button calls.

Flop comes ...
8 A 8

I bet out $20, Late position snaps. button folds as does all other limpers.

Turn comes ...
9

I check.. Late position puts $25. (I know he has ace so i feel a check/raise would push him off and think flatting would be best to build pot.)

River comes ...
THE ****ING A

I check... he bets out 45 and i sit back and say" The Sickest river Ive ever seen". Guy says "what you got 8 9?", then is such a good guy shows me the ace and i table 89 and everyone is astounded i didn't pop it on the turn but i had too strong of a hand and believe i could of got him to push because of pot size at that point on the river.

Yea slow playing is awesome guys you should try it lmao.
(Please dont flame me i understand this play wasnt the best idea, but thinking i would lose value by pushing especially in a multi way pot. Pot was only like 100 after turn bet.)

BANKROLL: $2045

Put it this way, I live 1 mile from RR and happily take the trip to the strip EVERY time I play. Can you make money at the Rock, sure ...

But why try to peel some old timer's c-note that he's been farting into for the last four years while he is hunting for comps and drinking coffee when you can take it from a guy paying $300 a night for a suite and pounding tequila?
Yet the highest winrate I've ever heard for a 1/2 player over a good sized sample was from a player that plays Red Rock 1/2: 19bbs/hr for close to 1000 hours.

Brian's point that OP could be better served to play a different room due to the style of the room is valid though. For a newer grinder it is probably much easier to play tourists. You just wait for hands and then you stack them. For a more experienced player that table dynamic can constrict one's play and it kind of makes you feel like your hands are tied because it's hard to win a pot without hitting a hand (ie you see opportunities to steal pots but you can't because you know that Tourist A can't fold 2nd pair).

Turn is a standard bet for value. If he has an 8 he might pop you. If we check raise turn we make it easy for even an 8 to get away from his hand. We also allow weaker hands to check back turn (turn is a standard check back with an Ace there). We also get to set the price to see a river.

I'd generally raise pre but it does depend on table dynamics.

Yea ive played everywhere pretty much.

List from most to least...

Red Rock 1 - Great room in general, lots of grey hairs but one of the best rooms

Planet Hollywood 2 - The old room had girls pole dancing half naked all around you, and being right in the middle of the casino it would draw in fishes. Now its in the most random spot, but still fishes galore with average players.

South point 3 - Grey hair central, this is the cowboy casino IMO

Caesars 4 - Great new room, never went there before they remodeled. Seems to have a significant amount of regs also but more or less "Grinders".

Harrahs 5 - Tbh very ghetto small and in the corner. nothing special about this other then your occasional Asian pockets deep with all of his friends drinking.

Aria 6 - EGO central, this is a beautiful poker room although lots of grinders and great players go there(i saw andrew robl there). Also, has a walk in "IVEYS ROOM" which is insane nose bleed stakes. Pretty compact but you sometimes will see a bunch of tables going and little wait.

Wynn 7 - Decent poker room, very elegant and nice. Nothing that pops out but feel as one of the best rooms Ive been to, not many regs or grinders.

Monte Carlo 8
- LMAO, If you want to re-live the 1980s poker generation come here. Sticky chips, wooden rings around tables. and the same group of old dudes playing the 2/6 and daily tournment with 11 people.

Ive been others but this is the most common so far since ive been here. ( I forgot about RIO played there multiple times but its not much of a poker room when WSOP isnt around, very cool casino though.)

Do you have an aversion to the Venetian? Were you 86'ed from there or something?

I just don't get how they could have so many 1/2 tables going, a low rake, lots of deep pockets and super flexible comp dollars and you don't mention it above as somewhere you've played.

It's kind of a must stop for a 1/2 player.

Once again a perfect example of why I let Natamus represent me in all my financial matters

How someone can be a low-roller but still claim to want max value and yet not be at the Venetian is a complete mystery to me.

Did you read the part where i said i forgot to mention a few? Ive been to the venetian but the drive is somewhat inconvenient with all the traffic and is further then most of my other casinos that i like to play at.

Ive played there before i love it but like i said, convenience is a big deal for me. The drivers on the strip SUCCKKK also.

  1. Basically all of the casinos on YOUR list are on The Strip. So sucky drivers or not, you're obviously willing to go there.
  2. Venetian is further than what exactly? Further than South Point??? GTFO! If you're coming in off 95 - which you almost certainly are from the RR area - Venetian would be like the second-closest casino of all the ones you mentioned, only Wynn would be closer and that's right next door to Venetian.
Dude, if you're going to lie to us at least make it a good one.

Jim beam, Those casinos Ive listed Ive been to very few times.
I never go to the strip casinos, The only casino is Planet Hollywood and that's because my cousin works there so he usually meets up with me after work...
the strip casinos are only good for hookers

(I agree though i will be hitting the strip casinos up more often i think now, i dont want to make this as a ego post i just honestly like the easy drive to both SP and RR with only highway.)

Ive been to RR - 100+
SP - 10-15+
Planet Hollywood 10+
and that's about it, all the other strip casinos is about 1-5 times tops
Cause like i said...Convenience wise. RR is closest at about 10-15 mins tops with absolutly no traffic only highway.

I don't really feel like your response deserves a response but for what it's worth I think Squid Face, Rob Farha, Cushlash and probably a half dozen other 2+2ers who make their livings grinding the live low stakes no limit tables in Vegas would say it's a top of the list worthy room - not to be forgotten.

Even in my ~200 hours playing last year coming from LA to Vegas I learned the value of the Venetian to ones bottom line.

But hey, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make me drink

So, instead of me finding excuses why i don't goto the strip as much.
I will take your guys responses and use them to my advantage.
(i looked up on Google and realize that your correct on drive wise, its not much further and agree you guys might know more then me considering Ive only lived here for a couple of months.)

This whole week im going to play at the Venetian and strip casinos to see how it goes.
(On my way in 10 minutes and will update once i get back.)

River Rat:

i live very close to you. When I gambool at the venetian I park at ti and walk over. This way i do not have to deal with strip traffic and can hop right on to 15 from spring mountain. It takes me about 20 miins to get there but is well worth it.

If you are playing 1/2 I think it is a no brainer to be playin there. Last night I beleive they had no less than 9 1/2 games going. The rake structure is fantastic and the 2$/hr is v good as well. With that many games to select from you should have zero issues finding a high quality lineup for your pleasure

best wishes

Wow guys.. When i first went to venetian it was when i first got here to just check it out.
Well, now i can see what you guys are talking about.

They had 11 tables running on 1/2 and when walking up i literally said "1/2 please"
She says .. "Table 9, 4 tables down on the right."

Sat down and immediately was ask "how much "
I throw down $200 and got chips and the cards starting going.
First hand i get is ..

A10

all folds.
Im in mid-too late position i Bet out 12.
(I wanted to show i was here to play some poker.)

LP and Button call.

Flop comes ..
A67

I bet out 20, Late position folds. Button Re-raises me 55. (Old guy deep stacked )

I tank.. Fold.
(Knew the sit down, first hand raise probably looked weak i still think a call is legit in this spot)

*Feeling out the table before getting into games is a big part i think, his re-raise looked weak but i didn't want to bust out first hand.

Ended the night in a cooler hand

AQs VS KK to a loose player and got caught when he had a hand.
Top pair top kicker pushed all in turn.

(Guy was aggressive all night, probably the 5th time he pushed too steal spots)

-200 for the night. Not made at all the way i played. Work then poker tomorrow

Thanks man, I might make the venetian my new home if i can find a convenient way because damn the traffic is horrible down on the strip.

I never really cared about promos because i usually ate at my house, and always just have enough money to just gamble anywhere i want and not think about it.

so many tables to choose from.
my work is actually pretty close to that and think i could take spring mountain like you were saying that way.

If you're going to The Venetian the easiest place to park is at Palazzo, whether or not you take the freeway if you're driving down Spring Mountain it's the first right after Las Vegas Boulevard into the Palazzo parking garage. The elevator takes you to the main floor go left through the shoppes and the poker room is on your right.

Best poker room is subjective. Maybe it is if you are a 1/2 player, albeit 1/2 is 1/2 and there are going to be good games everywhere.
