Officially it's illegal to use chips to pay for anything. They can only be used to gamble with. However, people can accept TIPS in casino chips.

In poker rooms they typically let you pay for massages (not all of them though), food (almost all of them), and drinks in chips. But I would never expect a cab to let you pay with a chip.

In Las Vegas, pretty much everything and anything, if the person offering the service or mechandise is willing to accept it. About the only thing you absolutely can't pay with them is parking tickets and the IRS.

The Priest at the Catholic Church I go to on SuperBowl Sunday always makes a big announcement about how chips are always welcome in the collection plate.

Disagreement here.

When the WSOP was at Binion's back in the 90s, they excepted other casino's chips for buy-ins in satellites.

When I was in Vegas a couple of weeks ago, the dealers in poker games dropped them as cash and replaced them with their casino's chips. If you were a casino and a player had only another casino's chips as money, would you chase them away?

And has been mentioned, any individual will accept any form of money as a tip. Given that, if you offer a cabbie a $25 chip for a $18 ride and tell him to keep the change, he'll probably take it if he knows the casino.

And then there's the rumor of the player who paid for a hooker with a tournament chip. She was disappointed when she went down to cash it.

I played in a casino where the waitresses couldn't accept chips as payment for drinks. But they could change the chips to cash. So the official way they were supposed to do it was you hand them a $5 chip, they hand you five $1's, and you hand them back, now paying for your beverage with cash, not chips. That was typically shortened to you hand them a $5 chip, they pick up $5 and put it in front of you and say "touch this, please", you reach up and tap the bills, and they then pocket it. Awesome.

Bottom line is you MIGHT be able to pay your cabbie with chips but you're pretty much a dick for doing that. If you're going to do it you better overtip (like mentioned above). Chips are for tipping, not for paying.

And not all casinos will cash another casino's chips. It will vary mostly by denomination, and there will occasionally be periods of time where it will not be allowed (like if there are counterfeits floating around). Obviously the lower the denomination of chip the more likely you won't have any trouble though.

The cabbie will be paranoid about your being some kind of undercover cop, and there is an video and audio record being made, so don't rely on him taking your quarter as payment.

Any difference between casinos within the same company (e.g. MGM and Mandalay Bay) and casinos who are owned by different companies (e.g., MGM and Caesars)?

Because if I owned a multibillion dollar conglomorate of casinos, I'd probably just allow my casinos to exchange each others' chips and hire a runner to move chips between casinos. The exception might be if there were stronger anti-counterfeiting measures in one casino than the other, but even in that case I'd allow the casino with stronger measures to accept the chips of the casino with weaker measures.

Las Vegas Strip casinos generally take one another's* checks up to green at tables (they will be dropped and exchanged for that casino's checks). Black you have to take to the cage, and even then they may not take them.

* Other Strip casinos only.

I can see the typical poker player's brain frying and shorting out at the thought of a 66% tip

If he actually enforced the no stroller rule he'd truly be pimp.

The no stroller rule came in to effect at Wynn properties because one day SW was walking through one of his hotels and since he is legally blind he stubbed his toe or something to that effect and then implemented the ban on strollers.

That was the answer I got from a longtime Wynn security guard when I inquired about it a few years back.

If you are staying in a room at one of his hotels the rule is waived.

Do you pray to God to win your Superbowl bet?

No, I go to Church every Sunday. I am in Vegas for every SuperBowl. Therefore, every SuperBowl Sunday I go to the local Las Vegas Church.

I generally thank God for allowing me to live long enough to see another SuperBowl, and to help provide me the means to see it in Vegas. I don't ask Him for much, I just tend to thank him a lot.

Re: Changing chips

Various by casino, but for the most part the strip casinos will exchange each other's chips up to $25 no questions asked. Anything bigger is generally a 5-15 minute wait for them to call over and verify you. So if you play poker at multiple casinos, carry cash and not big chips.

The Wynn and Bellagio are a real PITA about cashing out the other casino's $10 and $20 poker chips. The Venetian takes them though.
