When you say THIS post, you were referring to your post not the one you quoted, right? I know which one I thought was more pathetic.

Just in vegas.. 3rd time in 30 years

Walked the strip alot and walked to off-strip hotel a few times... Long sleeve polyester shirt (like what ncaa football coaches often wear) was fine. Heavy fleece better in some ways. Much much worse in other ways (sweat like mad.. Carry around).. If I had to choose 1, easily the lightweight shirt... And this was pretty poor Vegas weather

Fyi, I live in wet 40 degree winter place

OP, u been to Vegas before? And watch the dates on nfl playoff games.. Could be really expensive

Vegas may be more hopping this year too... Tons and tons of Canadians down there when I was there and I heard so many mentioning they couldn't 't come down (without huge issues) until recently.. Probably true of many USA people too (but the Canadians stick out.. Fyi, I'm from Canada

I'm so excited to come to Vegas in early February, even 40s - 50s would be a blessing compared to what I'll be leaving behind in North Dakota

I used to live in Winnipeg so I know the same weather

Not optimal but I could have tolerated short sleeves and shorts during the day.. And this was bad January LV weather

The bigger/farther is what will shock you. It's unfathomable

Jan/Feb is a relaxed time in vegas, decent poker without the crowds or inflated prices. Yes a lot of canadians and those from the colder states.

March otoh with march madness and spring break is hectic.

I appreciate your comment about "bigger/farther".

I try to explain that to folks talking about walking from A to B, i.e. that B may look close, but it may be a mile or more farther than you think.

This comes up sometimes when people opine about walking between the Strip and the Airport for example. Another instance is how far apart things might be even within a single hotel like MGM or Caesars....

yup, the distances are really shocking.

i took the monorail (that alot of people expect to be free or nominal fees, but is $6-$7 per trip) to the station that services the Wynn Casino. still a 10-15 walk to Wynn, and there are other properties that the monorail station services that are even further)

i was at MGM... tried to walk indoors to Top Golf. it was like something out of a hitchcock movie (the train that never leaves the tunnel).... another day, i took the monorail and saw driving range and thought "great, there's a 2nd driving range on the strip"..... oops, no that's Top Golf (name?).......... and i believe it is on the MGM campus (wasn't sure if it's just described as being beside MGM)

It's next to the Signature towers.

Just for fun I looked up how MGM describes the location and found the following walking directions on the website. They give you an idea how long it might take to get there..
Quote:
FROM CASINO INSIDE MGM GRAND
From the Casino, pass the Lobby Bar, turn right and walk towards the KA Box Office. Just past Wolfgang Puck, turn right and walk into The District. Continue through The District, past Craftsteak, International Smoke and Grand Garden Arena. When you reach the Spa Mezzazine, take the escalators down towards the pool. At the entrance to the pool, turn right and continue through the hall. Exit the set of glass doors to your left before you reach the Conference Center. Walk through the Topgolf/Wet Republic walkway and go through the gate located by Wet Republic.
As mentioned in the past, depending on the location of your room at MGM it might take you > 10 minutes just to walk to the Strip.

That said, between number of (hotel) guests and employees, there are probably >10k people on the property at most times. That's probably bigger than a lot of towns where tourists travel from.

Right now we are getting a flood of rainstorms in SoCal so I would expect cold and possible heavy rain through the rest of January unless the jet stream moves back to where it is supposed to be, far north of us.

Really? The internet referred to it as "off season" so I assumed it was as quiet as Vegas can get. I've done Vegas in the Spring, Summer and Fall.

As for poker I'm thinking about partaking in the Deepstack at Venetian since I'll miss the Wynn Classic. I'm sad that Mirage and Harrahs no longer have rooms. I've played a lot of 3 am, barely memorable poker at those rooms. Lots of times, with people just as drunk as I.

Hope the weather clears up too. I know Vegas needs rain but I've already had thunderstorms and sand storms on previous trips!

Certainly not as quiet as the time between July 4th and Labor Day?

This weekend should be pretty busy. At least it has been in previous years.

might have changed in the short=term due to covid...... canadians and americans in large, cold democratic states haven't been inclined to go to vegas until recently. this is their first chance in many cases. so that's been 2.5 years.

hotelliers in florida told me "spring break" is now just an idea...... it's all the time in february/march now. might peak at some date but it's pretty steady.

i get the feeling that Vegas being a big place for watching college basketball (college tourneys in-town.. and march madness on TV) and pro football (sports books) has expanded that demographic alot. and if you can't afford superbowl or first thursday/friday of march madness, then you do other dates in january/feb/march to get your fixes on.

It will be conference championship weekend when I'm out there, so I'm kinda wondering how the 2nd biggest NFL weekend will drive the action. I'm not the craziest sports bettor in the world (the allure has worn off since my state went legal). But NFL weekends in the books are always fun.

I've always wanted to do the first weekend of March Madness but I've never gotten around to it.

The standard Vegas tourist flies/drives in on Friday and leaves again on Sunday. Also, a lot of conferences / trade show attendees arrive the weekend before or stick for the weekend after.

Is it really the second biggest weekend for the NFL? For March Madness, I think the busiest weekend is the first one when there's still 64 teams and not final four weekend? That's more of a feeling though, without any data to back it up.

I meant for the league in general, not for betting on it, my bad.

my assumption also is that march madness being incredibly crazy in vegas is just the thursday-friday first week games..... most pool entries are dead by saturday

What's going on the first week of February that prices at PH shoot up about $450+ a night?

Does the pro bowl drive that much much fanfare?
