I actually can't quite tell how good I am. I used to be able to beat 2/5 for about 35-40/hr. The games aren't too much harder than they used to be. Less random spewy players, more solid but unremarkable players than there used to be, but not a paradigm change in skill like I was fearing with all of the poker knowledge out there now.

I've been playing really well, as far as I can tell. Almost all that money has come from getting it in with the best and having it hold up. I only had one major situation where I had the worst of it, and it was a QQ>KK all in preflop situation in a very preflop aggro game. Otherwise I'm just making the right plays a lot.

What I notice is that I'm less explicit in my own head about my logic than I used to be. I don't think it through the same way that I used to.. I'm less likely to walk myself through the entire hand, figure out the ranges, and explicitly work it all out. I just sort of go by instinct, like my brain is processing it in the background and giving me a good guess. But it has almost always been the right call. But I'm not confident that I can self-evaluate very effectively if I can't fully articulate my logic. I'm not sure yet if I'm just an okay player that has been put in good spots, or I'm really good. I'll need more time to figure it out.

Anyway, I've played at Wynn, Venetian, South Point, Golden Nugget, Aria, Red Rock, Caesars, and MGM. I don't think I really have any strong observations at this point. The wynn is both the best room in terms of actual physical poker room quality and amount of action - it's very gambley with big pots. That doesn't necessarily mean juiciest. The golden nugget is the shittiest room by room quality, the MGM dealing staff is by far the worst in terms of mistakes (surprisingly high amount of basic mistakes like hand reading and procedure) though pleasant enough personality wise. Good drinks there, big cups and they're generous with the booze. South point has a nice staff. I was surprised by how many Californians play there, from what people say. Apparently they drive 4 hours to Vegas but then stop before doing another 10 minutes to the strip. Venetian, Red Rock, Caesars are just sort of... generic to me. All are fine. Aria probably had the best players, I'm not sure about the worst. Aria had too many heads down, earbuds, looking at phone, hoodie, backpack grinders. South point was probably the most fun/least grindery.

Again, very limited sample size, only 1-2 sessions at each.
Thanks for your insights into 2-5 in Las Vegas.

SouthPoint has a significant advantage in ease of user interface quality to it, in terms of less hassle/friction in parking, getting to the poker room, food outlets, poker room size/quality, quality/size of hotel rooms, etc. This appeals to recreational layers, from California or local. More rec-friendly yields "more fun/least grindery"

One thing that concerns me is South Point does have those freerolls though. Hopefully they have a bigger impact on the limit games and 1-2 NL.

A few years ago (2018 I think?) I was staying at Mirage my first night (Sunday), hit the poker room that afternoon and it was so lively and fun that I skipped seeing the volcano and stayed late into the night.
Next trip it was figuratively dead and now it's literally dead.

Does anyone know if Planet Hollywood is going to open back up?

The casino is open. Poker room is gone for good. Unless someone buys the casino from Caesar's and opens a new room.

You can find a NLHE game at about 6+ different venues. So, better than say, "1995 times", not as good as "2005 times" or not nearly as good as "early 2020 times"

I'll be in town in a couple days...I'll try the South Point & Mandalay Bay instead of my regular play at the Venetian but was wondering if the "M" still spread a game...haven't tried there in a long time.

Was just there 2/19-2/21.

Mandalay bay isn't 24 hour. I think it opened at 2PM -3AM or something similar.

MGM was super busy on Friday night. There were only two empty tables from 8PM - 3AM ish. There were tournies happening in this time and I am unsure how that affected tables being full but there were at least 3 2/5 games and 5 1/2 games while I was there then. Wife and I go about every 2 months and every trip to MGM has been busier and busier on the weekends during our trips. Obviously your results may vary.

Aria and Bellagio had crazy long lists on Friday and Saturday night. Like 70+ deep for 1/3, hence why I ended up at MGM grand. Aria even had 15 on the list Sunday morning at 10AM but the wait wasn't crazy to get a seat.

Venetian list was long and room was regfest due to jackpot drop. Terrible time in the 90 minutes I played.

Wife and I always go over weekends and games are pretty much always decent on Friday-Sunday nights everywhere. However, since Flamingo closed, MGM seems to have picked up most of that 1/2 traffic in my experience.

Good luck.

Give SouthPoint a try.

Visited Resorts World a few times this year, and don't see any reason to play elsewhere as a visiting tourist looking to donk it up at low steaks.

Quick lists, 8 handed tables with super comfy chairs, plenty of space, extremely high quality dealers, no promo drop. Games were largely social, I do my best to contribute to that.

Hoping they gain some traction, room was packed for some vlogger meetup 3/4

Could use an extra waitress at all times.

On busy nights sometimes they will get a 2/5 table going.

said it in another thread but its a ****ing travesty Excal, Flamingo and PH Closed. Mirage was dying, even during wsop they only had about 5 tables fired up 2 years ago.. but was great for conventions since people usually stayed there for that.

Flamingo hurts the most, ive have small sample size but games Thursday to Sunday were fun during wsop! people would come in gamble it up and leave 40 mins later after busto, tons of action on certain tables due to its vibe and location. also one of the poker rooms that imo had most chatter overall . to me, had a good feel to it for the rec business or traveler who just wanted to gambler and not give a ****. used to have a 1-1 PLO game that was volatile but told was good game.

I want to echo those who thought aria has the "nittiest" or " toughest tables", I guess if youre good there is NO such thing as a bad 1-2 NL game but aria has some good tables and some not so good tables, your mileage may very there and I feel wynn and bellagio is prolly the same.

I played at the MGM at degen hour around 4am and multiple times the games and vibes were just down (as they are at that hour, but more so than other rooms at 4 am) lot of folds. I bet MGM is prolly one of the better rooms when they have a lot going on that weekend with conventions or concerts or big big events tho

I went to venetian once during my first and last trip, i swore I saw that they had a free soda dispenser I think? idk why but I liked ventians feel and vibe of the aura of their room.

overall the less poker rooms on the strip the worst off we ALL are..

Silly question, but we can still get free beers while poker in Vegas, right?

If yes, what are the better beers they are willing to give?

Yes they'll give you free beers... the limiting factor is more how often the waitress comes around. Don't forget to take care of her ($1/drink is fine, more might bring her back faster). If your goal is to get combatively drunk, you're best served going to a bar first and paying for it.

The bigger rooms will have Corona, Heineken, and Stella in addition to all the domestics (Bud/Miller/Coors Lite, etc). IPA's and smaller breweries will be harder to find.

Golden Nugget has Guinness, which I like.

If your goal is to get combatively drunk, don't drink a 4% drink.

Man, I miss the days when the Caesars poker room had the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA available. Not only is that stuff awesome, but it's pretty funny when you can get someone else at the table to start drinking a 9% alcohol beer.

You are easily amused..... (because you are also consuming a 9% alcohol beer ?)

Very strange how opinions differ. I loved playing at the Mirage, late night poker action used to be insane with a bunch of drunk people giving away money. Flamingo on the other hand I only had bad experiences with so far. 98% OMCs who get angry when you raise. They fold every hand until they wake up with AA/KK and make it 10x pre. Never seen a good game at Flamingo over the handful of times Ive been down there.

Aria on the other hand is my absolute favourite. I cannot even count how many drunk degens I played against during this trip and the tables are good 9 out of 10 times at 1/3.

i will not return to the Wynn poker room after observing this hand last nite: Cheating 40ish asian couple in seats three and four of my table obviously romantically tied. They play three way action in 2/5 game to the flop with man in seat 3 three betting fish in seat 1 and getting flat called by his girl in seat 4 and also flatted preflop by fish. $120 to the flop and the flop is 8d jh ks. fish checks; seat 3 checks; seat 4 bets out $100; fish x/r to $200; seat 3 flats; seat 4 pauses and flashes Ac Kd to seat 3 quickly and in his direction and then folds; fish notices, and I notice. Followed by a brief incomprehensible "I no see" from seat 3; i speak up and say that seat 3 could have easily viewed seat 4's cards when she flashed them in his direction. Dealer tables seat 4's hand. Fish flopped a set of 8s and seat 3 a set of Js. Couple are obvious regs. Crickets when the AcKd is tabled. i finally say, "I get it that you want to show him that you are folding TPTK but there is 3 way action." Dealer is mute. Dealer is either incompetent or turning a blind eye to the regs or just doesn't care. The **** you see in cash games with a bunch of regs and a poker room catering to their regs...

yeah strange because Aria is my LEAST favorite room. played there like 3 times and had three crappy experiences.
I'll probably give it another try next time late night
