Re: VPC Went Vegas III; A Trip Report

Besides Fratie waking me with his clumsiness around 6 AM I have a decent night of sleep. I canít even begin to tell you much better I feel compared to the 2010 trip and my foot starts looking like an actual foot again so Iím ready for long day of Vegas money burning activities. I play some poker at IP before heading for The Mirage where a group breakfast is supposed to happen.

Today Barcelona is playing Milan and with the 0-0 in Milan the week before this could become interesting. The 10 to 1 odds on Milan to win make me wager some pocket change. As you may have noticed I have about as much gamble in me as the next dead guy. The idea of investing money in activities that have a 100% -EV outcome in the long run strikes me as stupid. I donít think Iíve lost $ 50,- on random gambling activities yet Ė not including poker obv Ė and most of that moniez was well spend hunting cheap beers. I do enjoy watching the gambling though. Especially when Iebus is involved. Iíve seen Iebus lose his shirt in at least five different countries but the man just wonít stop smiling during the process. A typical conversation with Iebus goes like this:

Me: "Howís it going?"
Iebus: "Great. My number 14 fell on roulette and I just called a guy with K high in a $ 200,- pot"
Me: "Did you win that pot?"
Iebus: "Yup"
Me: "How much are you up?"
Iebus: "Down $ 400,-"
Me: "Hmm"

Only five of us made it to The Mirage yet so we wait for more to come. Iebus canít leave Vegas without picking a winner at the horse races. For some reason Iebusís horses always either stay in their booth, break their neck in the first five steps or run in a completely different direction. Today is no different.

#petatterape

When even Baars made it to the Mirage we order breakfast. Iíve been eating rather unhealthy so far so I decide to go for the Salad Wraps. The Salad Wraps are on the menu as a Ďstarterí. Having some experience with what you Americans call starters of Ďhalf portionsí Iím sure it will be enough to cure starvation in a small country. It takes my unhealthy eating ass ten minutes to figure out how to attack this meal. I thought the waiter forgot my wraps but when Iím about to embarrass myself by asking for them it strikes me that the salad may just as well be the wraps. I should really start eating more healthy stuff.

Complicated breakfast

Watching Barca - Milan

Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers is butchering the Barcelona Ė Milan match by throwing around penalty kicks and red cards as if they where candy. The game is pretty much over at half-time which isnít too bad since we need be at Aria by 1 PM for their afternoon tournament. The Aria tournament is without any doubt best daily ~ $ 100,- tournament on the strip. Besides Peltinho, Iebus, Hugo and me 91 more souls try their luck this Tuesday afternoon creating a 3Kish first prize.

Aria's starting stack.

Card dead is the theme for this afternoon. Not for Iebus though. Iebus is at my table and showís top set every other hand while others are showing middle of bottom set. He has about 40k after level two. Some hot run. I canít get anything going. I open a lot in LP but canít flop jack and barrels are called all day. Iíve made a four way deal in this tournament last trip for about $ 1800,- each and I was down to 700 chips after the first orbit back then so no need to worry just yet.

After a few hours and ditto table changes I find myself playing 13k at 500/1000/100. I ship 62o Ė first open ship should always be with air imo Ė in the cutoff and get instaed by the BBís 33. Rather thin with her 20BB stack. Iím hardly surprised to see the lovely door card; 3.

Hugo busted the tournament as well. Iebus and Peltinho are still in decent shape but I donít feel like hanging around and since I can walk again Hugo, VDH & me make the trip towards Bellagio. The Cosmopolitan Casino is the only casino I havenít visited on the strip as it wasnít around in Feb. 2010. I donít spot anything worth looking at within the first seconds so we just walk trough the place on our way to Bellagio. Walking towards Bellagio I stop and absorb the view of this great casino in the bright sunlight. Day after tomorrow I will be back home again and god knows how long it will take before I get to see this beauty again.

You sexy

I havenít played at Bellagio yet this trip which is a disgrace obvious so I sit down in the 1/2 game asap. I play for about three hours but the poker just doesnít seem to go my way this trip. I canít win a decent pot the entire session. I cash out and go see how Hugo is doing. I see a 427JA board and Hugo bets 25. Opponent raises to 60. Hugo shoves for 150 total. Opponent calls showing J2. Hugo shows A9 Hugo likes thin valueÖ. Hugo stays in his chair despite the fact that all his chips are going somewhere else. He looks at me and - freely translated Ė says "Boy, I was playing some attacking poker again Ė two second pause - and Boy, that was YET AGAIN very expensive" causing me to walk out of the poker room with tears rolling over my cheeks in laughter.

I decide to loose my money a little less quickly in IPís 2/4 game. Itís almost 7PM so getting started with the drinking business seems in order. The waitress could easily be Usain Boltís sister so Iím already feeling the booze when we go for dinner around nine. Today we eat a "Kwok". Kwok is a chef in Caesars Beijing Noodles No. 9. Kwok sounds more funny so we call it that. I havenít eaten at Kwokís yet but the boys say it good and the hostess is supposably very yummy. We havenít made reservations so we waste a good 30 minutes of effective Clubbinítime waiting.

Dinner @ kwok

Dinner @ kwok 2.0

The portions are bit small but the food is really good and the hostess is indeed white-hot. Itís around 11 when itís time for serious Clubbiní. During our 2009 trip we ended up at Ghostbar somehow and loved the place / view. Iíve read that the Voodoo Lounge has great view as well and they offer an open bar package for only $ 75,- on weeknights so we go and check that out. We decide to go Ďbudget Clubbiníí in style by taking a limo to the Rio. In the Rio Baars has to phone home because he maxed out pretty much every piece of plastic in his wallet. One can clearly see he isnít to happy about informing the home front on his bad fortune.

#bamisoep

Awkard phonecall

Most of us are suffering from a huge after dinner dip so thereís some discussion whether or not we should go with the open bar package. According to the guy at the door itís a slow night so we get in for free and decide against the package. Iíd expected the place to be completely empty due to the Ďslow nightí but there are like 50 people on the roof Clubbiní it up. The view is great, the DJ is really hot and sheís playing decent Clubbiní music howeverÖ.Iím chewing on my Corona as if itís filled with quicksand. Although the food portion at Kwokís was rather small I feel like Iím about to explode. Ití tís time to switch back to the recipe that made Sunday night rather epic; wodka Red Bull.

View from Voodoo Lounge

The first wodka Red Bull doesnít improve my situation but the second one slides in rather nicely. By this time though some of the boys are done with the Voodoo Lounge and want to go back to IP. Hugo is always in for a night of Clubbiní. Iebus, Fratie & Peltinho are in obviously but Iím a little surprised to see Bozzie sneak in the Rockhouse when we arrive back at IP. It was about time though this old fart started Clubbiní. We already scratched Bozzie from the VPC goes Vegas 2013 list but he might just reclaim his spot tonight.

We pound on the Rockhouse dance floor and power drink wodka Red Bullís till the lights go on around 5 AM. No strange sexual harassment incidents or cool pictures unfortunately. I donít remember much accept for one entertainment industry incident. Iím hanging over the bar ordering some more Clubbiní ammunition when out of nowhere some ugly fat chick sticks her hand in my boxer short and gives me what I can only describe as a rectal exam. She screams in my ear bud I donít understand a word sheís saying and Iím just to flabbergasted to do or say anything. A bouncer saves me by throwing her out of the club leaving me speechless for about 15 minutes.

Coming back from a piss I find out the Rockhouse is closed already. Stumbling into the casino I find Baars & Hugo playing blackjack. Hugo is hungry and goes for a burger at "The Burger Place" in IP and go along. I didnít even know there was such a place in IP. Iím not nearly hungry enough to eat at this dump so I head back to at the blackjack table where I see Bozzie. Itís frigginí 6AM and Bozzie is still around. Wft. I canít go to bed before Bozzie because I would have to hear that story for a year so we go on a stare down. Around 07:30 we compromise to step in the elevators together. I havenít been winning anything this week but Iím winning this one for sure. I get out at floor 6 as Bozzie proceeds to 16. I take the next elevator back down, sit with Hugo and Baars for three more seconds and go to bed. Winning!

Walking into my room is like walking into a CSI Crime Scene. Fratie is still breathing so I just step over him and go to sleep.

Forensics plz

This TR just reinforces my need to get back to Vegas!

Very impressed by your writing considering English isn't your first language.

That room is standard for the guy I usually share rooms with when I go to Vegas. I am a neat freak, even when completely drunk, and try to keep all my stuff in one small area because I am always paranoid I will lose something.

Re: VPC Went Vegas III; A Trip Report

Day 7: Walkabout

Dafuq. What is it with these goddamn wodka Red Bulls? I went to sleep feeling drunk but overall perfectly fine. We are three frigginí hours down the road and I feel like Iíve been hit by a bus. Twice. I can hardly think about how bad I feel due the incredible headache. I instapop a handful of Ibuprofens and lay down on my bed, not moving an inch, waiting to feel a little better.

Around 11:30 I hear Fratie - who made his way into the bed somehow - make a noise that sounds like a bear roaring. He gets out of bed wearing nothing but his boxers. Fratie grabs his orange sunglasses, puts them on, screams he needs water and storms out of the room. This scene is hilarious obviously but Iím feeling so sick I can hardly laugh at the ritual.

Fratie's sunglasses

For some reason I agree to meet Hugo at 13:00. I wanted to go Downtown today and visit the outlet centre for some shopping and some more Downtown exploring. I shower for at least 30 minutes and manage to get dressed but I just canít go downstairs. I sit at my bedside wondering how I can possibly help this grueling feeling pass and text Hugo I canít make it. Simply feeling too ****ed up. I try to puke in order to feel better but I canít even get that going today. I crawl back into bed not even taking off my shoes. Watching a sports program about ridicules statistics helps me fall asleep again rather quickly.

I wake up at 14:30 feeling about 150 times better than 1,5 hour ago. Iím pretty sure I would have taken a sick day feeling like this back home but compared to how felt this morning I feel pretty much reborn. I jump out of bed and storm towards OíSheaís Subway for my first foot long of this trip. I canít reach anyone on their mobileís so I decide to go on my own Vegas farewell tour. Weíre flying out of Vegas tomorrow morning at 9AM so this our last day in Paradise.

I had several things on my Ďto do listí before the trip such as pulling an all-nighter (at least 12 hours) at the poker table, bottle service in a club, win moniez, play poker at every casino on the Strip I hadnít played at yet and collect chips of all the Casinoís Iíve played at. I guess having done exactly zero of these things is a good thing. Iíve had an absolute blast this past week and Vegas somehow seems to become smaller on every trip. I hardly mind.

Now, I definitely want to play a WSOP event some day but walking across The Strip this April fourth I can only imagine how intense the solar flares must be in June. Itís blazing hot today and I want chips of all the Casino Iíve played at so far which means I have to walk up to Circus Circus. We stayed here during our 2009 trip but I didnít bother to grab an ugly 1$ chip back then. Iím usually not much of a collector but I recently realized that I have chips of every casinoís Iíve played at Ė not just Vegas - except for Circus Circus, Caesars & Excalibur. This annoyed me so Iím not letting the opportunity to fix this slip by.

The heat is to much for my used to ten months of rain per year body so I dive into The Venetian. First stop is the San Marco Square. I love this surrealistic spot and I havenít visited it yet this trip. After I wonder trough Pallazo and Wynn Iím forced to go outside again. I forgot how far the walk towards Circus Circus is. We stayed here in January of 2009 and it was a lovely 70 degrees back then which apparently made the walk way more comfortable back than.

I feel like a bum walking towards the cashier asking for a $ 1,- chip but what do I care? Iím on the other side of the planet by this time tomorrow and I donít know anyone here. I see they replaced the ugly chip for a decent looking one and they Ďpimpedí the poker room as well. The rest of the casino still smells like wet dogs obv. I buy a bottle of cold water and head for Treasure Island. I seriously wanted to walk towards Excalibur when I started this farewell tour but thatís out of the question in this heat. After I score my chip at Caesars I head back to IP. I tell myself not having an Excalibur chip isnít that bad because I only played at the electronics tables there in 2009 and thatís not real live pokers anyway.

Ship da chips

The reason we visited this April is because we wanted to see a pool in Vegas for a change. Especially Peltinho had big pool plans about plastic tits and ice cold beers. No surprise really that I donít even know where the damn pool is in IP on the last day of this trip. It 17:30 when I suggest a quick swim to Fratie. Fratie is game so we jump into our swim shorts and locate the pool. The pool isnít as bad as you expect from IP perhaps but standing on the side op the pool I canít see the bottom because the water is kinda grey. Oh well.

The first thing I packed for this trip Ė besides Clubbiníshoes and matching socks Ė was a ball to throw around the pool. Fratie tries to head the ball back to me on the first throw but manages to hit the ball with his eye socket creating a vacuum sucking sound and screams in anguish that nearly make me piss in this already suspicious water. Good times. We pretty much hit everyone in the pool area with our ball until the pool closes at six.

Priorities in order

Back in our room we spot another Family Guy marathon is running so Fratie dives in to bed right away. On my walk across The Strip today I noticed the Outback Steakhouse is located above Casino Royale and Iíve read good stuff about this joint in the Casual Dining tread. I head over there to check out the menu and make reservations for the nine of us for 9 oíclock. Back in IP I buy drinks & Doritos and join Fratie on his Family Guy marathon. After a couple of episodes I look to my right expecting to see Fratie watching Family Guy. Instead I see this:

Fratie looks kinda sad so I ask whatís wrong. Fratie tells me he feels like dancing. Whut? Fratie jumps out of bed, grabs some speakers out of his suitcase and puts on the Billy Idol song ďDancing with myselfĒ and basically starts dancing with himself. I film the ritual because, well, this footage needs to be saved for our offspring to see.

Our table isnít ready when we arrive at Outback so we head down and engage in some gambling until our light button starts flickering. Baars manages to get the big wheel spinning at least five times in ten minutes but canít onetimer the machine. It takes all eight of us to pull Baars away from the machine when our table is ready.

We are an easy group. The waiter suggest the Prime Centre Cut Filet so after little deliberation eight of us order the Filet. Hugo takes his usual 20 minutes to study the menu and then orders the Prime Centre Cut Filet. Obviously. We can be very straightforward about the dinner. It was ****ing fantastic. Probably the best steak Iíve ever head. The onion sticks and Caesar Salad where great as well but the filet was just epic. All this and about two liters of soda for a measly ~ 50 bucks each. Absolute bargain.

The good stuff

Prime Centre Cut Filet FTW

Epicness Maximus

We are back at IP around 23:30 and Iím a little surprised to find out everybody is planning to go to bed. We have to get up at 6 AM tomorrow but going to bed now in order to be awake in the US Scareways plane doesnít make any sense to me. Baars isnít planning on going to bed either. Baars plans a long night of blackjack apparently because heís wondering if he can use the ATM again after 0:00 if he uses his max one time per day visit before that time. Lol.

I decide to go and play some poker but not after I catch one more episode of ďDuh Mat RouletteĒ. We used to have a striker at our local soccer club - who sucked by the way - that had the nickname ďDuh MatĒ. Iebus was his only fan and ever since Iebus bets on his jersey number 14. Despite the fact that it nearly bankrupted Iebus several times, his faith in ďDuh Mat RouletteĒ remains. ďDuh Mat RouletteĒ caused Iebus to make the walk of shame on pretty much every day of this trip and even on the very first evening but not tonight. Miracles happen. The 14 hits three times in 10 spins.

Hell froze over

After everyone is of to bed I hit the Strip. A quick look in my wallet humbles me enough to stop at Bills instead of Bellagio. I plan on winning big, heading towards Bellagio and being in Bobbyís Room by the time the boys are flying out of here tomorrow morning. Obviously that doesnít happen and I find myself falling asleep at Bills 0.50/1 game around 04:30. The night at Bills was great though. I got exactly what one would expect from a night in this **** hole; drunken trailer trash at my table, 85 year old dealers, hookers all around and a couple of generations of inbreeding going toe to toe.

Some hooker shoots me a kiss as she passes the poker room, causing some laughter at the table. The exact same thing happens again about 30 minutes later causing all the guys at my table to go ballistic about how popular I am. Iím a lot less enthusiastic really. This basically means I must look like a guy that doesnít get laid much and is desperate for some action.

Around 3AM a fight breaks out at the roulette table. Some dude who looks like Marilyn Manson gets mixed up in brawl causing us to bet how fast this freak will be bleeding on the floor. It takes the security guys at least 15 minutes to end the show. The hole family is involved, even grandma is hitting someone with her purse. We donít play a single hand during the entire show.

I can hardly keep my eyes open around 04:30 and walk back to IP taking one last look at all the lovely views I wonít be seeing for a while. It takes me ten minutes to set the alarm clock due to time differences before I start my powernap.
