You won’t get those players as much but they contribute so little anyhow
You don't want first timers at your table. It's an immutable law of physics they will sun-run. It even happened to me in my first tournament. I literally had people groaning at my table because I was raising so much,

I think you guys underestimate the potential for upscale shoppers to wander in.

Sometimes I wish the forums had a sarcasm font.

You really want poker room employees playing, believe me.

Walked by where it's gonna be this morning. Shops level right around the corner from the Palazzo elevator bank.

I haven't seen the actual location, but this is going to be horrible. Turn a good poker room into crap.

They already did this about 6 or 7 years ago.

Venetian still has poker?

Venetian is my go-to spot for staying and gambling though I'll usually stay on the Palazzo side so I can walk over to the Wynn. Regular poker players and even semi-informed tourists like myself already seem to know about the new room and will likely give it a try given how central the casino is.

So this gives the Venetian one last chance to make a good impression with their poker. It'll likely be packed for a few weeks and after that it'll live and die by the quality of dealers, drink service, overall vibe of the room and the fish like me it can attract and retain.

It still looks like it will be early August, they will have new chairs, they are testing out some new colors for felt, supposed to have one of those fancy coffee/expresso machines where you can self-serve again like before.

Possibly bring back the Sit n Go satellites for tournaments. Supposed to be very upscale and maybe the nicest room on Las Vegas.

Someone was saying today they heard from someone high up at Hard Rock/Mirage (Seminoles) that when they open after they finish remodel in 2027 they are going to have a very nice poker room.

Hard Rock bringing back a rom would not surpise me at all. I think most of their "major" properties (if not most of all props) do have poker rooms (and decent or better ones at that of the ones I have played.) I will note that so far at least HR AC does not have a room (yet?)

It’s a popular place to play 1-3 NL, especially when they have the high hand promos going on. People don’t mind paying high rake if they think they have a shot at winning a high hand bonus so the room gets extremely popular with low stakes players when one of those promotions is running.

I have tried playing at Venetian a little to see what the games above 1-3 were like. Online players and 2+2 players hate that room so much, so I thought maybe it would have a higher percentage of non serious players. IMO the competition wasn’t noticeably softer, but who knows if that’s normally the case.

They dont in AC. When they opened I was hoping the would bc they run good rooms and could give Borgata a kick in the ass but in never happened.

If the new Venetian room doesn’t open until early August then they will have missed the entire Vegas summer poker series season. That strikes me as insane, unless they specifically wanted it that way so as not to have any snags, delays, or other snafus cause problems during their ‘24 summer series. Either way, I’m disappointed I won’t get to try out the new room this summer. I know most of you are down on it, but I’m pretty hyped to check the new room out.

the demand for any poker is high so people will come this summer whether the new room or old room.
grand opening after the summer series will draw more people in after the summer surge, thus keeping volume high after peak.

just my uneducated observation, but it doesn't seem far off their strategy

If they open in early August, that has to be a deliberate decision with the WSOP ending in mid July. Most likely reason for that would be higher revenue in the old room.

Opening in August is basically a "soft opening" by default.

They should have them both open during the WSOP. They'll fill the tables.

Also, supposedly, you can park at Palazzo parking garage and take the elevator right up to the poker room (near it).

I have never parked there so I don't know.

I’m surprised they wouldn’t open it during the WSOP and raise the rake back up to $6+$3. I’m shocked the rake isn’t that much already. They raised it that high right before Covid shutdowns, ran high hand promotions and when I checked Bravo the room was packed.
