Portugal, Spain, Italy, Costa Rica-----All drugs are legal for personal consumption
Mexico----Small amounts of drugs like Cocaine, LSD, and methamphetamine are legal for personal consumption.
Germany---possession of cocaine is legal

As you might imagine, there are several COUNTRIES where weed is fully legal or not bothered with. The United States is far behind many countries when it comes to drug legalization.

So if you are looking to make a poker/drug vacation, there are better choices than Las Vegas.

But yeah if you want to buy some weed in Vegas, it's a lot easier with legal dispensery's. So that might appeal to some poker players.

Re: Is Vegas your #1 choice for poker trips?

OP, if you're going for a week then go to Las Vegas. More options and the scenery is better for poker. You can also navigate the strip without Uber/Lyft/Taxi which saves you expenses.

They mentioned the Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL and when I go there I stay at the Best Western Plus (check in Booking.com the Best Western in Dania Beach, FL). It's an average of $120 per night, though you want to avoid weekends when there are cruises scheduled in those dates. I Uber from the airport to the hotel, though when I used taxis they'd try to get clever with me asking me for the address of the hotel (seriously?) which I luckily had in hand. Uber from there to the Hard Rock is an average of $15. But that's pretty much the best option for poker in the Ft Lauderdale area unless you rent a car. I've checked AirBnB and it looks like there are better options but I haven't tried it (maybe next trip there).

tl;dr; Go to Las Vegas for the week; save Ft Lauderdale for long weekend trips (3-4 days).

Now the down side to Vegas, imo, it has a lot of regs/pros in the 2/5 and 5/10 stakes. So finding weaker fields can be challenging some times.

What about the commerce? Iíve never been there, but they have LOTS of tables. Maybe someone else can give feedback on it.
30 rooms doesn't mean much when many of them have 3 games or fewer running much of the time. There are rooms in California that might have as many games running in one room as there are on all the Strip combined at 8 am, for example.

Ok but the point is the Commerce has a lot of tables with a lot of games at a variety of limits. As I post this, from Bravo Vegas has 49 games going on now at 16 different card rooms. According to Bravo the Commerce has 34 active right now. Ignoring LA as a possible place to play and CA in general is absurd.

I am from Europe as well, was briefly considering AC for our trip but after reading about how bad the security situation is I obviously said no and went for Vegas despite it being further away. Dont really want to sit in a hotel for a week nonstop...

Seriously. At Commerce if you don't like your table, you don't have to go to a different casino, wait and play hit or miss regarding the action. You can just be moved to a table that you have already visually verified is action. If he wants a change of casino scenery on the weekend, the Bicycle casino is a short 4 mile Uber ride away. There's not much to do close to either, but OP is primarily interested in poker.

OP, one of your compatriots, GazzyB123, seems to like the action at Commerce. He has a thread on the Poker Goals and Challenges forum. Maybe you can message him with questions you have.

Re: Is Vegas your #1 choice for poker trips?

Thanks guys, all the signs leaning towards Vegas at the moment... Just gotta wait for the right deal to come up, as the prices are fluctuating daily.

I'm considering the LINQ as a favourable option at the moment, due to location, In N Out and Hash House.

Will be playing at The Venetian, Encore, Aria, Caesars maybe some smaller / casual rooms like PH and Ballys. Probably won't bother with Flamingo, Harrahs, TI etc.

Which rooms offer the best comps? Are any worth grinding inparricular for any kind of reward/rake back?

If you don't find any good deal consider the Royal Resort. I've been there for the past 2 weeks. It's very decent for the price.
  • Right behind the Encore
  • Very close to the Peppermill, my absolute fav place in Vegas for brunch
  • Ample rooms, very clean. Comfy bed, hot shower, good water pressure
  • Did not see anything odd going on for the 2 weeks
  • No resort fee!!!

Thank you, the odd thing is that the flights on my dates are around the $1000 mark, but a package at a strip hotel is only $1300, so I'm really not saving money by doing it seperately, otherwise I would have definitely gone for something like this.

AFAIK, the rake virtually everywhere in Florida is $5+$2. I know that's true for South Florida.

Re: Is Vegas your #1 choice for poker trips?

I'm like 70/30 in favour of Vegas ahead of an Ireland + London combo atm... just gotta find the right deal. Skyscanner wants minimum £750 for my dates, then I have to add in hotel and resort costs.

I'm waiting for a good package deal on Expedia to come up, pretty annoyed - 10 days ago it was a great price, and now it's gone up 40% since then.

Thanks for the info. That's the same as most of the cardrooms in Vegas right? I think some in Vegas are $5+$1.

Make sure it's clear whether the package includes resort fee or not. When I was looking myself about three months ago Virgin would wave the resort fee at the Tropicana because they have a deal. That's probably an exception. If you have to pay resort fee and tax on top that will add over $300 on top of the $1300 ...the problem with the Virgin deal was it included indirect flights only.

I *think* that Expedia and Virgin have to quote the full price including fees when selling to UK customers.
Because hidden fees are not allowed in UK. As it should be!

It says the price then it says plus $xxx resort fees, which I settle when I arrive at the hotel.

i must say i have always wanted to go play in Macau. I don't have the BR for the HUGE games but I'm sure the 2/5 and 5/10 action would be just as good. And maybe sweat a high limit match or two.

Macau for me personally.

Very few non-stops between London and Las Vegas, try American/BA ? Sometimes they are very cheap. Alternatively, United thru either Washinton Dulles and LA are quick connections.

You are using up your valuable free time to play poker and so you need to be where the best options are. In LV you will have the best choice of games in the WORLD available 24/7. You won't get that in LA, NOLA, Florida or anywhere else in the US or Europe.
It might be nice to visit these places or similar so to experience their poker 'vibe' but ultimately you cannot beat LV for the choice of game 24/7 and with limited tie on atrip you'd be daft to go elsewhere unless you were prepared to accept the limit in games.

Stay downtown or off or poor strip to reduce costs (Circus Circus??).
Iíd argue that LA has softer and more games running at most times than Vegas.

Now, that is between about 5 casinos that you would have to drive to in order to change rooms, but there are more games for sure.

Yes this thread has educated me to that good point.

However, as you rightly point out getting between the games in LA is not as easy as it is in LV.

Getting between the games is much easier, as you might have to walk just 5 tables over. Getting between cardrooms is harder.

WinStar World Casino and Resort in Oklahoma is super cheap lol. But it is in the middle of nowhere (1.5 hours from Dallas though). You can get your room comp from any Sunday to Thursday just for playing poker and they pay $8.80 for every 4 hours of play per day. There are a lot of tables too from nl200 to nl500. Nl1000 also runs sometime.

They think that they have to switch casinos in order to switch tables in LA, eventhough Bravo might show anywhere from 5 to 10 5/10 games running at daily peak times at Commerce, for example. Lol.
