Hey lads,

I generally carry cash with me to Vegas since the ATMS there only let me take out $300 a day (I contacted my banks here and both said its a limit the USA banks put in place that they can not change) but that is annoying as I get terrible rates and am often left with a load of Dollars at the end of the trip.

I want to use my Revolut card for as much of the trip as possible this summer but am worried it will be the same situation.

Has anyone any experience of using a Revolut card or any idea how to change that limit without having to open up an American bank account (Hardly going to do that for my once every two year Vegas trip)

Thanks

I am not saying your bank is lying to you, but that seems highly unusual? I use 4 different European credit cards (2x Visa, 2x Mastercard) frequently at various different banks in various US cities including Las Vegas. I’ve encountered some ATMs that have a withdrawal limit of $500 but the majority are either $800 or $1000 and I can’t remember a single one in Las Vegas where I didn’t get $1000, including the ones at the airport.

One of the benefits of ATMs in casinos is that they usually have $100 bills, most others only use $20 bills except for newer Bank of America ATMs. $2k+ in 20s are just unpleasant to carry around with while 20 $100 bills fit in your wallet conveniently.

If you are going WSOP time it isn't difficult to change £/€ for $ with other players, if you know, or know of, players from your country.

Can't help with ATMs as I did open a US Bank account solely for my Vegas trips. It's a pretty neat solution, if you don't need the money at all between trips. Turn up in Vegas with no signing airport forms, head to the bank, pull out a chunk over the counter, deposit back at the end of the trip. No bad conversion rates.

Only other suggestion to mention as someone else I mentioned it to "had never thought of that" ~ charge everything to your room and at the end of your stay, pay off the hotel bill with paper $.

Thats interesting. This was 7 years ago I made this inquiry and have just brought my entire budget in cash ever since. Beauty of Revolut is the exchange rates are ALOT better but don't want to be in Vegas having to make Credit withdrawals with ridiculous charges like the first time I was there

Stupid question but can you do that with Gambling losses? I am sure the answer is no. Would be very handy to pay the entire amount with my credit card at checkout

Would be nice, but unless you arrange a line of credit with the casino, the answer is "no"

Daily limits are set by the bank where your account is located. Some banks protect their customers by using nanny limits while others have larger daily limits. I don't generally use an ATM to get cash, but I know that I was able to get $500 during one trip last year in Las Vegas (did not feel like going back to my room which was at a different property). My bank has indicated the default daily limits now (with them) are $1K per day unless a customer expressly requests a lesser amount. This is with the plain debit card they offer (no visa/MC logo).

I know nothing about the Revolut card.

If you have the limits to put the full room amount on your card, then that is one way of maxing the rewards. Ideally you will want a card that charges no foreign transaction fee as that fee could offset the rewards you would otherwise be getting.

I use ATM machines all the time and i am from Europe. I've set my bankaccount to a higher limit a day and works. Sometimes i have to use another ATM, but manage to get at least 5k a day.

Why not wire funds to your casino of choice, such as the Rio for the WSOP ? Revolut allows for transfers to US accounts, such as your casino's receiving bank account. Ask your casino's cage for help. After all, you are their customer .....Find out their conversion rate or wire in USD.

Also, tell your bank to raise your daily limit. I am sure that ATMs will allow you to draw up to your bank's daily limit. ATms in casinos will go to $3000 if I recall correctly.

Finally, Revolut issues a prepaid VISA or Mastercard, will they allow you to preload it and withdraw up to say $3000 per day ? According to their website, ATM withdrawals are limited to £5,000 or equivalent per day and £100,000 or equivalent per month. https://www.revolut.com/business/hel...hdrawing-limit

Ask them or flail around in Las Vegas Lifestyle for the next week or so ?.

There are different maximum limits on the ATM's. Therefor i will go to a different casino when i want to withdraw more. Last year there was a max of 1500$ in Paris and in Venetian i could go up to 3k$

I would definitely look into the exchange rate when doing that. Every time I use a BoA ATM they try to make me use their conversation which is 3.5%. Both issuers of my cards take 1%.

You can also just use multiple cards back to back and get the max from all of them.

Re conversion rates, yes they do vary greatly by who is doing the conversion. here are financial services firms in the UK which maintain balances in many currencies and take advantage of that lquidity to offer super low rates. (They seldom need to actually go to the markets to purchase currencies, they just look inhouse and adjust their holdings

(They seldom need to actually go to the spot markets to purchase currencies, they just look in-house and adjust their holdings short term. either way .... taking 1% is feasible if you are not actually going into the market. For BofA, 3.5% in every transaction seems just robbery at the margin.)

That's a slippery slope to "ATMmmms" back to the first hand-built one.

First ATM I ever saw was in Ann Arbor, Michigan around 1972. A "friend" needed some cash during non-banking hours to purchase some recreational marijuana, at a market price of around $200 per pound. .... or so I was told.

Maybe you can take a tour at Diebold-Nixdorf in Ohio to find out? Pre-merger I did part of my masters thesis with Wincor-Nixdorf. “Extremely boring” is the best way to describe that business, with an absurd amount of regulations. Trying to foster collaboration in an environment where security dictates that most people don’t really know what the next guy is doing is a lot of fun.

This might be stupid, but isnt it possible to buy either chips or cash at a cage in the casino? Usually do that in Europe as I can take out much more cash as it counts as a purchase.

You can normally do that (maybe not in smaller casinos) but they will typically rape you on the exchange rate. 10% vig and more are not unheard of. I've seen the rates, e.g. in Berlin and in Macau. There may be exceptions

I second that, i've tried that 2 times and the rates were somewhere above 10%
