I really wish I could of presented for you Spike. I've literally made my entire career off of being an A+ presenter/salesperson/interviewee and not off of the merits or critical approval of my work

The meeting was, in fact, not too bad. Right from the get-go, we decided that the agenda was way too ambitious, especially since this was the first meeting about this topic/with this team. So we scaled it back. My co-worker and someone from another department did 80% of the talking, so the rest of us filled in when necessary. The little bits that I did talk about were well received. I crammed like a high school junior the night before and got to know this **** well enough to bull**** my way through.

Spikey sorry the derail.
It's been far more interesting than the boring drivel I've been spewing the last couple of weeks. Keep going.

More than needing someone to stand in for me during a meeting like that, what I really need is a resume and cover letter overhaul. Mine is old and kinda patchwork, really doesn't showcase anything interesting, and I feel embarrassed to send it out.

Re: Vegas stories by Spike (ongoing TR)

School problems have crept up and I'm getting sick of dealing with someone in my department who a) has lied to me twice, and b) who takes weeks to respond to emails. There was a meeting at UNLV today for our department as a "meet n greet" for the students and new professors with the rest of the staff. I left after half an hour. I'm not much for forced mingling and socialization. Maybe I'm half panda.

I got home to find Sage lounging in the sun:

The Roomba has eaten one of my wife's crafting projects:

Because I'm a masochist, I decided to run the 10pm at the TI tonight with Joboo. I got there early and had to kill some time. So close:

About four hands in, Joboo busted me when my AA lost to his TT on a T82 flop. I decide to rebuy and it's probably the dumbest thing I've done in a while. There's two regs at my table, one who always buys shots for everyone, and another who is just incapable of listening to other people. A woman sits at my table, mid-60s, deaf in one ear and mostly blind. And she's never played live poker before. Her daughter has to tell her when it's her turn to act. She's constantly putting the wrong amount of chips out there. And there were a bunch of times where she'd limp, someone would raise all-in with 20 to 60bb, and she'd call with KK, QQ, 88. She called an all-in with T9 and won against AT. Aside from that, it's the single most frustrating table I've ever been at. The play isn't anything special, and I bust when I shove 6BB pre with JJ and lose to Q9 because why not call an all in with Q9 from the button?

On my way home, I was driving through Chinatown and saw some of the "massage" parlors. I typically just drive by and don't think about them, but tonight, I saw a group of guys hanging out in front of one. I started to think about it. Would it be awkward for a group of guys to go in to one of those places? Do they have enough girls working at all hours to cater to these guys? I don't understand the appeal (though I admit, I understand it more than I understand strip clubs); I don't know how it works or how weird it would be. I've never been to one of these places before, but I've had plenty of times after a late night session where I've felt like I could use a massage. I always worry that the language barrier of "No, I don't need a yanky cranky" would get lost in translation, and I'd end up having a lot of explaining to do to the wife.

I'm off to Fry's tomorrow to buy some things to upgrade the battlestation, then check on my dad's house in Henderson. It's been rented by the same couple for the last 15 years, and my dad wants to see some pictures.

I really enjoy this thread and think a detailed account of what happens when someone goes into a massage parlor would be a great read. Tell your wife you are doing it for the thread.

Re: Vegas stories by Spike (ongoing TR)

When taking a vacation to the beach, usually Cape May/Wildwod area, I like to spend the first night in AC to get my gamble on.

A few years back, my early 20's son was with us. His first trip to AC. As we were having a few drinks at the TAJ, he kept talking about how many massage parlors there are on the boardwalk and how he was distraught over losing the "love of his life". After a few rounds, I went to the bathroom, only to return to see him gone.

After @ 45 minutes, I began texting and calling him. No reply. After about an hour and a half, he comes walking in the bar. WTF I say. Sorry, curiosity got the best of me.

After of an eternity of not knowing what to say, I said "what you expected"? He replied "not that type of place".

Second question "what were you thinking?". He says, "I figure they call them professionals for a reason".

Stunned I said, "A you are an idiot & B that is hilarious and I will be telling this story for years!"

I guess it would make for an interesting story to tell both here and divorce court.

That's amazing. Any chance he would have gone back for round two to see if his first experience was an anomaly?

My wife wanted me to post a pic. I think I found one that shows off my best feature - my phone:

Saturday was a lot of driving around and shopping. Hit up Fry's for a new monitor, then the OutletPC.com site for a TV mount. I want to upgrade my office setup (I think I showed a picture of it a while back). My desktop computer is still 4ish years old at this point, but I can at least upgrade the monitor and such.

Since we were in Henderson anyway, had to hit my wife's favorite quilt shop:

And then pay a visit to my dad's house in Henderson:

My parents bought this place as the community was being built back in 2001. They planned on renting it out for a few years and then retiring, splitting their time between Henderson and New Hampshire. My mom dying kinda ****ed up all their plans, so my dad's been working. Fortunately, the guy renting the place has never left and really doesn't put in service requests, so my dad's just been making rent money for like 15 years. The renter recently made a request to buy the property, but I think he's low-balling so no deal was reached.

Saturday night, met up with Joboo and hit up Bonchon for Korean fried chicken:

I can see how this place might be good. The chicken and sauce were tasty. But it's SUPER over-priced (seven bucks for fries?!?), they were out of drumsticks, and our service was wicked slow. I doubt we'll go back.

I'm not super handy, but I tried installing the TV mount myself. It didn't work:

I found the stud, drilled the pilot holes, but I could not get the screws to go all the way in. Just wouldn't work. And then I stripped the screws so they're stuck. Goddammit. I go to bed, and vow to re-group in the morning.

First thing Sunday morning, I call a handyman. He says it's $45 to do it and he can be by first thing Monday. I tell him if he can come today, he can double his price. I emptied my office out into the living room, and really don't want to leave it like that. He agreed at first, but about 5pm, he said he couldn't do it. Great. So I did what any other red-blooded, hot-headed American would do...

I took a five pound weight and hammered those ****ing screws like they were nails. So far, I think it's actually working. New set up, ahoy!

The TV was a free one I got with my laptop last summer, got an ULTRAWIDE screen monitor at Fry's, and even took one of my old monitors on the side. The TV doesn't point downwards as much as I'd like, but I'm pretty happy so far. I've got a MainBrain box attached to the TV (can't get live TV to work yet, but the movies are going well), plus it's currently running as my optional 3rd monitor. The ultrawide is pretty slick though, as is the wallpaper:

Wallpaper on the side:

After hammering and setting everything up and etc., I was drenched in sweat. My wife touched my shirt and grimaced. I said "I promise I'll shower before bed." She said it doesn't matter. I shoved her nose into my armpit and repeated "I promise I'll shower before bed." She walked away muttering like Sideshow Bob after getting hit the face with a rake.

I'm off to shower. Possibly squeeze in a 1-2 session before bed.

Man, when that wall mount falls it is going to take out the other two monitors too.

I would set myself a reminder to check it weekly.

Didn't make it to poker last night, or tonight, or tomorrow. Probably not until the weekend. I'll have a better update when it happens.

It's the LG 34UM68: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824025344 I love it so far. And I really love how massive everything is. I'm supposed to be moving offices at work so maybe I can put in to get something similar.

Ha. I've got three screws in the stud, plus a bunch of nails around it. I grabbed it and pulled like hell and it seemed sturdy. The TV is light, too, so I think I'm actually in the clear. Knock on wood. Giggity.

Re: Vegas stories by Spike (ongoing TR)

I've injured myself three times that are worth mentioning. I had been trying to forget about one, but my doctor put me on an auto-call list. I'm getting called about once a month from an office I haven't been to in almost a decade.

The first, was in the womb. When I was in 4th grade, I was diagnosed with a hernia. After surgery, the doctor told my family that I must have had it my entire life. Maybe the doc told my parents some technical thing about how it could have happened, but I've never understood how I was able to injure myself prior to being sprung from that uterus prison.

The third, was the most recent. I was in Vegas and living with Erin. I woke up one morning and couldn't walk. My right leg was killing me. I was in so much pain, but I tried like hell to put on the brave face. I pulled the "Oh it'll be fine" and "Let me walk it off" until every step was agony and I couldn't take it anymore. Erin drove me to the hospital that basically shares a parking lot with my primary care physician's office. They took me in to the ER and told me I had sciatica. Somehow, I managed to injure myself in my sleep. I would need physical therapy and etc and so on.

To add insult to self-induced injury, the hospital wasn't in my insurance network. Nevada state law doesn't allow an ER to confirm whether or not they accept certain insurances. And even though my doctor is right next door, I was **** outta luck and had to pay for the visit out of pocket.

The middle, and the one memory sparked by these phone calls, is the most embarrassing. I had plantar warts all over my hands growing up. It started with one, and the combination of drumming and baseball gloves/sweat spread the **** all over my hands. When I was older, I was using an electric razor to manscape. I don't know why I wouldn't use a straight razor. Too afraid of getting massive cuts, I suppose. I would make everything silky smooth and then take care of business for myself. After a while I started to notice bumps on certain body parts and... well, long story short, I managed to give myself an STD.

So this is going to be my last update. In addition to getting completely butt****ed at the tables the last few days, my semester starts on Monday. I've got a class (I think I mentioned it before) that is going to be such a wicked timesink, I doubt I'll have time to do much else. I had homework to do over the weekend, before classes even start. Even need to find an extra $1000 more than I budgeted for the books and software.

There were no good stories or anything crazy where I can say "Well, at least I got to see that!" Maybe I should take that back. I played at the Wynn tonight and got to see all the broads going to the club. I'm very glad to see the Kelly Bundy look is back in style. Very, very glad.

I'll give four hands of note, since these are the hands that have ruined poker for me forever, then I'll say goodbye.

I went to Bally's Thursday night to get in a little 1/2 and see if I could make some money. I bought in for $200 and couldn't get any traction. I was set mining a bit and missing. I would try to mix up styles and show aggression or passivity, but nothing was working. I decide to limp with A4dd. I almost never call with weak aces like that, but wanted to take a stab and see how things go. Sure as ****, someone raised to $20, one guy called, and I called. Flop comes KJ7ddd. Love it love it love it. I check, original raiser checks, last guy open-shoves for $90. I flat call, original raiser folds. Other guy shows JJ. Turn is a 2d, giving me a 77% chance to win. River pairs the 7 and I'm left with a couple of bucks, so I re-buy for another $200.

An Indian regular sits down and max-buys. He's the only one straddling and starting to splash money around, so I try to find a way to exploit it. A couple of orbits into his stint, he's on the btn and straddled for $5. I have black 55 and make it $15 to go. Indian is the only one to call. Flop comes J65hhx. I lead out for $30. He calls. Turn is a 9x. I bet $60. He calls. River is a 2h. He's called me on two streets so far, but would he really have called me with just the flush draw? Probably not. Maybe it's AJ or 65. He's been super splashy so I don't put him on much. I shove, and he calls with... Q8hh. He was calling all that way with the non-nut flush draw and a gutter, when I was a 70% favorite, and now I'm broke.

Tonight, I get a really late start and decide to hit up the one room I missed from the beginning of this thread: The Wynn. I call in at 10:45 to get my name on the list. Between traffic, trying to go in the back way, and a couple of emergency vehicles, I don't actually get to the room until 11:30. I'm at the top of a 13 person list and one room manager checks me in. I'm waiting for a moment when I notice my name is gone. I ask the manager about it, and he looks puzzled, so he adds me back. Two minutes later, my name is gone again. Apparently the other manager who was dealing with other customers just decided to delete my name twice. I kinda laughed about it, so I got back on the list, but they started a new table anyway. Game looked alright, but then I had back-to-back hands of ****ery, plus one hand where I made a mistake because I was so tired.

There's a woman in seat 1 who is under the gun, and she limps. I don't have a read on her, but I've known that middle age women don't bluff and will raise big when they've got something. A couple of limpers later and it gets to me. I complete the SB with J4o thinking I can see a flop and go from there. Flop comes J42r. I check, under the gun makes it $10, it folds to me. I make it $25 and she calls. Turn comes an A and I think that's a good scare card. I make it $25, and she tries to raise so fast she nearly knocks over her stack and her drink. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me she's got AJ. She makes it $85 and I open-fold my two pair. She shows A4. That means I was about an 86% favorite to win after the flop.

The very next hand, it limps to me on the button and I just decide to limp with AQhh. I'm slightly tilted and annoyed, so I just want to see how this goes. SB completes, and the woman in the BB checks. Flop comes AJ3r. It checks to me and I bet $10. Woman calls, one other guy calls, everyone else folds. Fine. Turn is a K and puts a second heart out there. Woman bets $20. Other guy calls, I call. River is the 7 and a third heart. Woman bets $20. Other guy calls and I have no idea what to think. I call. Woman turns over KK. Cool, I was a 91% favorite after the flop in that one. So in back to back hands, I lost to a three outer then a two outer... except it wasn't a two outer, as the other player turns over KJ. So she hit a one outer on me. I didn't lose much on the hand, but I'm completely ****ed at this point.

A couple of hours later, I'm in a better mood and there are a couple of drunks at the table who just can't wait to give away their money. Great. I'm on the BB. Asian guy limps, drunk makes it $15, other drunk calls. I see JJ and make it $45 to go. Asian who had limped over-calls, first drunk calls, other drunk folds. Flop comes T86. I bet $80, Asian calls, drunk folds. Turn is a 3, and I shove. Asian insta-calls and shows 97 for the flopped straight and I'm drawing dead. So I lost hands where I was a 77% favorite, 70% favorite, 86% favorite, and 91% favorite for roughly $700. I don't know the odds of losing all of those hands, but I feel like it's gotta be pretty small.

I hate this ****ing game.

It's almost 5:30am. I have to be up at 9 to get some work done around the house, then a marriage party for a couple of friends of mine. Life is going back to normal soon, and that means busy times with school and work. I'm going to let this thread die (unless you guys have any questions or anything... I don't know), but I'm definitely going to start another one next summer during the Series. I was also thinking about doing some kind of photoblog looking at the poker rooms that no longer exist. We'll see if I can get motivated enough to do such a thing. Chaps, it's been fun. I'll still be yelling at people in other LVL threads, and if I can find the time, hitting up a 2+2 meetup for food or something, so I won't be completely gone.

Cheers.

Oh for the love of man why does the summer of Spike have to be over so soon! Thanks for the great entertainment with your threads. I seriously laughed out loud on several occasions reading this stuff.

If you are still alive in December( and that's a big if, because seriously weird stuff happens to you that doesn't happen to others) I would love to take you out for sushi. Have a great semester and good luck with those classes!

Yea, I thought that too, and if he were just using notation like Kh and 7h, I would chalk it up to a typo - but stating specifically 2 hearts and then the third heart - I don't know where the typo is supposed to be. I'm sure Spike will clear it all up soon

If you are still alive in December( and that's a big if, because seriously weird stuff happens to you that doesn't happen to others) I would love to take you out for sushi. Have a great semester and good luck with those classes!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. And I'm never going to say no to sushi.

So, there are two possible scenarios about this discrepancy, and I honestly don't know which is correct:

1) It was 5am when I wrote the post and I got the suits wrong (I may have been off-suit, or had diamonds instead of hearts)
2) I actually mucked the nuts and didn't notice until I wrote the post

Well... ****.

this thread.

The 'MYCAHHH' license plate on the car that was the subject of the JJB episode just killed me.
