visa gift card is cash. You need gas and grocery no matter what. I suppose there is chance to make a couple dollars more if you get lucky enough to hit 98% back or something, but you have to factor in spending time doing that when there might be something more profitable to be doing.

Went and got my gift cards today, and Free Coffee!
Lines not too bad yet, but it sucks when 100% of the time, the person next in line is spacing out instead of paying attention to being called.

I'm going to try for a 40 hour grind, today through Sunday, starting with 8 hours at the Flamingo.

Just a FYI I just heard today Flamingo has changed their freerolls to 18 hours required per week but the top 10 make $1k and there is no monthly freeroll now. So you might want to start grinding Flamingo on Friday.

Thanks dude. It's 15 hours this week, then 18 starting next.

Which means unfortunately I'm going to have to grind at both Flamingo and Harrah's in December. It is certainly hard to pass up a 1 in 10 shot at 1k a week. Plus I'd like to see if I can run the gauntlet and get the nearly impossible 4/4 $1k cashes in December.

As a former tourney player, I'm liking it.

December also means less participants I'd think so its a better chance to make it through. I also know several regs who are a bit burnt out on the past 2 flamingo monthly grinds who will probably not do it. I might go for it once though. Will be a lot to squeeze in 18 at flamingo, 13 harrahs, 10 ballys in a week for the whole month.

Also went to ballys to get their gift wrap up and ended up just getting a few gift cards although I definitely saw a few things there I wanted but couldn't decide on. No line and the free food samples were nice.

It's a lot harder to collect anything from the promo now. Ask yourself how often you cash in a regular tournament. The number of winners will be the same 10%. Plus, these tournaments won't have any tourists wandering by that decide to jump in, it's only grinders like yourself.

I posted a snarky answer then deleted it, as it was neither funny nor helpful. Let's just say that a fair amount more than 10% cash. The design is to leave a decent proportion of players happy, and I believe that they succeed with that.

what are you using your great gift wrap up free play for? Baccarat, video poker or black jack?

VP probably. I'm okay at 9 6 Double Bonus, especially when I can check plays on my phone. I doubt that they still have 25 cent 10 7 DB anywhere, though I did find a machine in Reno this Summer.

I did the Ballys grind from 10p-3am and it was pretty dead and a lot of shorts stacks.
The $5 and $2 rake topic was brought up when a player realized he won a heads up $20 pot and the dealer took $4 out of it. Another guy then made a comment basically asking if a full ring game at Ballys with that rake started and everyone could only buy in for $100 and never add on plus no new players added to the table. How long would the game last?

It was dead yesterday. I was at Harrahs and their only table was on the verge of breaking at 8pm. Fortunately we made it past that and got more players in.

Damn, wish I checked here before I went. Would've preferred gift cards than getting stuff that ideally I don't really need.

It's generally good for the game when "pros" join a 1-2 game.

Well if you're anything like me, I salivate at the idea of being given the opportunity to take all that sweet ass promotional dollars (and don't forget buffet vouchers).

I've decided I'm going to take a break from the mundane snorefest that is the daily noon - 3pm grind of playing Aria PLO. It has been a lifelong dream of mine ever since I saw TeddyKGB overbet 5x pot on the flop vs Mike McDurrrrmott straight, to overbet a board against a nit holding AA to get him to fold at 1/2 NL. I just turned 32 and if I don't take this shot now, I may never find the opportunity to play in these games again.

Armed with the experience of having done the full 60 hours at Treasure Island before they closed down and with 2 full min cashes of the Southpoint 100 hour (now 120) freeroll grind under my belt, I'm ready to take a $50k roll and dive right in to hell that is Vegas Promo room grinding. I will leave either completely busto or up like $3000.

Lets see what contenders we have for the month of November.
You can see all the details on Bravo for payouts

1.) Flamingo 15 hour weekly + 80 hour monthly promo
Their weekly tournament is $12 prizepool tournament that runs friday mornings and awards $400 to the top 20 players, and $200 to the next 20. Roughly gets about 80 runners so we can expect $150 in equity for ourselves. Their monthly 80 hour promo will probably have roughly the same amount of players so we can estimate our equity to be about $450.
Comitting 80 hours of play at flamingo in November should expect to net us about $1050 in equity for an additional $13/hr.

2.) Harrah's weekly 13 hours
$10k prizepool and about 60 entrants. $165 in equity. Adds about $12.5/hr in value

3.) Bally's 10 hours freeroll played with increasing starting chips per extra 5 hours + buffet vouchers.
Usually gets about 80 runners and including buffet value ($15/voucher) I'd say $250 in equity. Its probably less as this is if you only do the minimum 10 hours and will be at a disadvantage during the freeroll. Adds expected $25/hr in value.

4.) Southpoint 120 hour holiday 200,000 freeroll.
There's gonna be about 400 entrants in this thing. $500 in equity but SP awards bonus hours through out the day. Expect to put in about 80 real hours total for an expected added value of about $6.25/hr.
I'm pot committed to doing southpoint as I've already got 25 hours there in the past 2 months. Will put my best effort to do all the other rooms and give interesting room reports and HHs where I bluff jam river with air and raise 63s UTG.

Will see if my roommate will contribute to the thread sometimes as he enjoys? the pain of promo grinding as well. Anyone else who plays these things feel free to contribute.
I'm about to join you on this promo grind except I don't have a roll and will be playing every weekend with my paycheck.

How does that work? Does he give them instruction right at the table? Or are there only students at the same table?

I talked to him later (real nice guy btw) and they weren't actually students, but were employees of his website.

GL man. When I had my old office job I didn't want to do any work on the weekends, including grinding cash.

Well, I did a 40 hour grind over 5 days, just like a regular working person. It was a grind, as advertised, but it was still better than my old office job, especially since they wouldn't let me nurse a glass of Jack Daniels on duty at the old place.

If I keep up the pace when I get back on Wednesday, I should make the Harrahs, Flamingo and Bally's freerolls.

It definitely is. Part of me likes it as I know I wouldn't put in half this many hours without the requirements, and part of me hates it of course.

I'm doing one more week of all three freerolls too then I'm going to try out the 1/3 non promo life for a bit.
