my guess is Virgin probably didn't want to or couldn't get a NV gaming license. so they are operating the hotel & hospitality. Mohegan Sun will run any of the gaming. Kind of like the Rampart Casino (aka The Morgue)/JW Marriott.

In any event, I hope they are successful. it is depressing to see what has become of that area when you remember how prosperous it was 20 years ago.

Not disagreeing with you, your first guess could be verified with a little research, but no one is paying to have that verified.

Your second point, aka "The Morgue", illustrates how the brand value of Marriott or perhaps now Virgin is not being optimized.

This is a far cry from when Dave Chappelle designed marketing posters/ads for the Hard Rock .... "We sell used dice" and "Get ready to buck all night"

checked out the Virgin Hotel/Mohigan Sun Casino today. It was nice enough but nothing that blew me away. The layout is similar to the original Hard Rock Casino, just with new interior decor. Kind of reminded me of the (still closed) Palms renovation. And it was EMPTY. Which I guess isn't totally surprising considering there is no pool or functioning sports book yet. FWIW

Something that may be a secret to tourists, is, before going somewhere in Vegas you remember as fun/nice/whatever, call and see if they are open. You could avoid an unnecessary trip or two.

Mohegan Sun runs the Casino
Hilton runs the hotel
Several restaurants are contracted

Some vloggers speculating there was a money issue for Virgin. Subdividing the casino, hotel and some restaurants was their way to get up and running. People like the old hard rock pool and it doesn't seem many like the new layout. Pool size has been significantly decreased.

What are poker players eating after midnight now that a lot of the go to places have closed or modified hours. I’m a fatass but even I can see getting only fast food as a problem quickly. Any ideas for slightly more elevated food than a deli would be appreciated

Coming into LV May 11-17th, staying at Westgate which looked nice. Any recs for solid food at the Westgate or close to it? Huge thai food addict and always love a good burger. Any good AYCE sushi spots still open with COVID?

Starboard tack is 10-15min from strip depending where you are

The short rib grilled cheese has been a fan favorite forever but I think it's completely forgettable.

Count me -1 on tacos el gordo. Overrated as hell.
