I’ll be hitting chevelle with Drax if you wanna meet up (although wish it wasn’t a free show)

Sublime with Rome and The Offspring Friday 9/27 at the Downtown Events Center is my next event. I may go to Chevelle as well.

I saw Sublime with Rome outside at the events center last year, and tbh I thought the cover band "Badfish" and their set inside House of Blues was better, as crazy as that may sound.

I've really enjoyed all the big cover bands I've seen that roll through HOB month in and month out (Most of these shows show up on Fil-a-seat as free shows). Some of the good ones were:

Dave Mathews Band, Tool (schism), The Doors (Wildchild), Sublime (Badfish), Led Zeppelin (Led Zepaggain), Depeche Mode (can't recall the cover name).

These bands and many others like them are on the schedule at House of Blues regularly. Definitely worth checking out.

+1 to Brooklyn Bowl also. Caught the Alice In Chains cover band there with Drax a while back and they didn't disappoint.

The band The Droids that plays at Carnival Court every week does pretty good for rock. The band looks like it's comprised of Billy Idol, Smashmouth and Zach de la Rocha, and they cover all sorts of a range of old and new rock.

Saw that QueensRyche and a 'Sebastian Bach-less' Skid Row is playing at Sunset station next week, but haven't looked into those details yet.

Also, NIN at Hard Rock October 20th! They only have 3 live shows scheduled in the next year plus (Vegas, Sacramento, Houston) and this is the first one; fml for having a previous engagement that night keeping me from it!

I will be at the NiN show in Sacramento. It kinda pisses me off they are so close together or I would go to both. A good buddy of mine lives in Reno and we are driving over.

Ya the timing is dumb.... like they play 9pm in Vegas then play next day in Sacramento at a festival that starts at 11am. I don't even know if there is time for me to get there to make it worth my while for the price tag. Still considering it tho

Disclaimer: Past performance is no guarantee of future results.

Having said that...Billy Idol is at Hard Rock next weekend. Having seen his show waaaaay back in the day (with The Cult, yes I'm old), and fresh off Adam Ant, Willie Nelson, Spoon, and others (all of whom still got it), this might be pretty good.

I'd be all over that if I wasn't working all month. He will be there for Oct 4th to the 21st.

Saw Bill Burr at the Park Theatre a few weeks ago. Worst part of the venue was the line-up to get in at the Monte Carlo. The lines pushed right up against the casino floor so it was too packed.

Once through that, the venue was really nice and easy to get around. I didn't get a drink though. Screens and sound were good, but it was stand-up comedy so hard to judge. Would go back. I like how it spills out to the Toshiba Plaza.

I saw Cher at Park Theater (Wife had free tickets) and the venue was decent. Drinks were not cheap at all but I am used to that now. The problem I saw was that they have all that construction and so coming and going is basically packing everyone in like sardines.

Saw Bob Dylan there over the weekend, excellent sound.

Could understand the lyrics. That's fortunate because he did a lot of Frank Sinatra covers and re-arranged a lot of his own standards.

Van Morrison is going to be at Caesers in January - tickets are pretty pricey, but I'm willing if the show is going to be good - I've never seen him live. Anyone have thoughts?

thanks

Lead guitar for the Grind is Jeff Hwang, Vegas local and author of several PLO books. If I don't get booked on a gig, I'll be there.

This thread appears to be mostly about concerts, but does anyone have any recommendations for female jazz singers in a lounge setting? Piano or small band backing? Some casino hotel bar for example?

I have randomly caught a really good one at the bar in the back of the Cromwell early evenings on weekdays. In fact I think 2 different ones on different nights a few months back. Couldn't tell you any other details than that, sorry.

Breaking Benjamin acoustic set at HOB this week was amazing! They even belted out an Alice In Chains tribute, "Down in a Hole". Just wow.

(Also, thanks for getting me drunk NCJ! - )

OK thanks, I'll check it out. Seems like there should be several, but maybe it's more of a vestige of old Vegas.

If you just want to hang loose, there are some good local bands on Fremont street on Friday and Saturday nights, and of course the guy who plays the sax. Good free entertainment.
