Vegas during WSOP season - still possible to grind a stud or draw game outside mix? Vegas during WSOP season - still possible to grind a stud or draw game outside mix?

Is there at least a draw or stud game that runs consistently enough to justify spending the wsop season in Vegas grinding the cash games (small and mid stakes, let's say 2/5 - 5/10 NL and 10/20 - 20/40 limit), having only one game of choise?

I gave a look to the Bravo App these days, but actually I didn't notice anything..

the only ones I know of are the 20/40 stud at bellagio, and then 50/100 or maybe 75/150 stud8 at wsop. There are no regular 1 draw game tables in town to my knowledge.

And I would still recommend just learning the other games in the mix anyways and playing that. You can find regular mix games across town at the 4/8, 9/18, 20/40, 40/80+ levels throughout the summer.

If you are set on just playing one game maybe do some tourneys. look at golden nugget, Binions, Venetian, and whatever other casinos host summer series to find straight stud8, triple draw, or what have you. If you are at least proficient in the HORSE games there are a lot of those tourneys. Binions just had a $585 event.

Yes I've seen the stud8 at the wsop, but 50/100 it's just to high.. if there were lower stakes it would be very cool.

Does stud 20/40 run consistently?

The problems with mix game are:

1) I wouldn't have the possibility to master games like badacey or razzdugi or superstud or Big O that are not available online

2) I wouldn't like to improove in omaha and limit holdem. And even omaha8 I wouldn't be to happy.

Basically if I could I would avoid anything that has a flop, apart from NLH.

Do you think that I'd find consistently mix which do not include games that fit in these two points above? or maybe for no more than 15% of games played?

I know there would be the possibility to open some kind of list of interest to propose to other people the game you want to play.. but coming from Europe with just that possibility to play I'm afraid would be stupid.. and I'd end up playing 1/3 NLH all the times

1. You may not be able to master it but neither can your opponents. Just take a little time to think about the game off the table and come up with a reasonable strategy to use and chances are you'll be ahead of the curve already.

2. limit holdem isn't in the rio mix, and usually isn't in most mix games. o8 is rarely in the rio mix. More common would be 5card double board omaha high. And people are bad enough at that that you can just play tight starting hands and do fine.

That player pool is probably the worst at the stud variants that get added like super stud8 and razzdeucey. If you are a stud expert who is decent at draw you'll do fine.

At the very least it's worth playing to pay your dues and improve at your weaker games. You probably wont find a better place to break into mix games, and straight stud or draw games either don't exist anymore or are dying anyways.

I don't expect that 20/40 bellagio stud game to last, or it might even already be dead, haven't checked in awhile.

Mix is more fun anyways than sitting around playing stud only.

Wow, really? The Bellagio 20/40 Stud game is dead?

Not that it matters to me, I’ve never played in that game. But it had some kind of sentimental value to know that game was running every evening at the Bellagio with the same pool of players that most likely had been around for 20 years+. Always made me smile when I passed it for the first time on a trip.

It may not be. I'm not sure. Maybe it just doesn't run while WSOP is in town.

def just learn the other games. it's fun and the 20/40 is usually very soft at rio and there are plenty of games that go as high as 200/400 that I'd say in terms of people making mistakes, are softer than most 5/10nl games going during the series. like dboy said for those small stakes mix games all you need to do is do some basic research about the game and what a tight solid strat is and just start off playing that way and you'll do fine until you figure things out a bit more. I imagine the 9/18 mixes that go at diff places like wynn/aria are even softer than the 20/40 at rio but i've never played that low so can't say for sure. The mix is usually mostly stud/draw games also, besides 5card double board high or sometimes O8.

I haven't seen a 20/40 Stud game at Bellagio for many years. There is sometimes a 30/60 Stud game.

Thank you all guys for the interesting and usefull comments

I have some more questions for you, I know they are many so even if you guys answer only 1 it would be extremely appreciated

Actually I'm a bit the opposite. My best game it's prob. 2-7 S draw, second choise it's stud8. I'm decent in RAZZ and 2-7 TD, both NL and limt-

I never played stud hi and badugi PL/Nl but I'd really liker to learn.

I'd prob. would be less interested in learning limit badugi and all flop games.

so, I'd like to ask you

1 Is there any mix game that u know that runs in vegas during wsop season that includes 2-7 single draw?

2 considering my attitudes stated above, would you adivice me any mix/casino in particular?

3 Are draw games in general, genrally played NL/PL or limit?

4 and, the most important questions. which of the games available on Pokerstars would be the most important to master to play mix games in Vegas (consider also the ones that would be usefull to learn/play games not available online like badacey) - please specify for omahas and draws if limit or big bet

and last question

5 if I email the casinos, should I get a clear answer about the games spread in the mix that I would be likely to find next year, or they just change to often?

Thank you very much guys

I'd say it's a lot easier to find limit games in the mixes here.

I remember yeas ago aria had a 12/24 that sometimes added 27SD and 1 or 2 other big bet games, usually with a $300 or $400 cap. Pretty sure the blinds were $3/6 during big bet but I can't remember exactly.

Far more common though is for players to stick to limit games so things run smoother.

games to play on stars to be better prepared for live mix.

only play limit variants

omaha8
stud8
27TD
badugi

Has stars really not added badacey and badeucy yet?

Limit badugi is actually becoming one of my favorites. I'm liking it more than 27TD now that I know more dugi strat.

don't worry too much about stud high, it's almost never in the mix.

Basically when you are ready to play, go to the poker room and ask what games are in the mix, write them all down, and look up simple strat articles online for the ones you don't know.

Or you can do like most us mix degens and just buyin and ask another player whats the nuts in this game, when do we draw/see a flop, and just estimate a decent tight strategy to begin with.
