Are there good places to safely overnight stealth park and live in a Van while in Vegas?

Which Casinos have good parking lots that can accommodate big travel vans, and allow easy overnight parking without hassles?

Most parking garages are too short for the tall camper vans... need outdoor parking. And I don't want to park anywhere where I might get a knock on my door at 2am with casino security.

Any good RV parks in the Vegas area?

Other suggestions on how to live out of a Van while in Vegas are much appreciated. Anyone want to rent out their driveway?

Thanks...

Iffy on a casino, because they are always watching even though the properties operate 24/7... if your stealthy its 50/50. Parking else where off property is probably about the same as it is anywhere else in the US. There are plenty of walmarts and homeless around, so you are in good company.

I've been out to Red Rock Canyon several times, and every time I went, I seemed to always see a van and/or an RV parked on the side of the road west of 215. At some point west of 215, it becomes BLM land, which could mean free camping outside of the actual entrance to the Red Rock 15 mile loop. Here is a link to the BLM site....https://www.blm.gov/programs/nationa...ed-rock-canyon

If I were you and were interested to see if there is free camping out there on BLM land I'd give BLM a call....you can stay up to 14 days. Now those roads out there leading off paved roads can be pretty rough, but like I said I've seen several pull off areas off the road outside the Red Rock 15 mile loop with people appearing to have stayed overnight.

The downside is you are far from the strip. However, Red Rock Casino is just east of 215. The upside is if you are into nature, this is going to appeal to you.

As far as casino parking, I always saw a lot of rv's parked in the Excalibur parking area. No hookups or anything like that obviously. I'd call Excalibur and see if they'd let you park out there overnight. Now as far as the safety of that area...that is a whole other thing and what you can tolerate. I personally walked from Excalibur to the west of I15 all times of day and night and never had a problem. But there are some homeless in that particular area.

I’m sorry can’t give any advice but definitely intrigued by this. I hope you do some form of write up on what you intend to do.

Van Life nomads are a real movement... I've been following several on youtube Vloggers. seems very interesting, but I am not giving up my property anytime soon.

If I was doing it I would go find a Walmart that is in one of the nicer areas like Summerlin.

OP did not actually say he was coming to Las Vegas to gamble.

1. OP seems willing to rent space in someone's driveway. I think that avenue should be explored .... any 2+2ers want to step up to offer ? (Personally, I'll pass.)

2. So, a Walmart in Summerlin or some place where the store manager would allow a stay seems an ideal suggestion.

He should check with the store manager:

"[P]arking at Walmart (WMT) is getting harder to find. In 2010, about 78% of Walmart stores allowed overnight RV parking. Now, it's close to 58%, according to Jim O'Briant, who runs OvernightRVParking.com, a website that tracks more than 14,000 free RV parking locations in the United States and Canada."

there is no free camping out in the greater Red Rock area and they have signs around stating this "No camping or overnight parking on the side of the road". I have even seen someone get rousted by a BLM ranger once for this (I was close enough to hear the conversation).

Many off-strip casinos have non-parking garage parking and rather large open area parking lots. I know the Suncoast has a designated overnight parking lot for oversize vehicles but u need a pass to park there (not sure if that costs $ or not). Most likely u could get away with one night in any general parking area as u don't draw attention to yourself.

What I have been seeing are people camping out in industrial areas near the Strip. They park their RV away from any parking entrances, kind of in between properties. The industrial area where I work, someone had an RV parked there for at least 6 months from late last year into this year and were clearly living out of it. The only reason they wound up moving is that they were repaving the street earlier this year so they had to go (they didn't come back). But I've seen some other big vehicles randomly show up nearby clearly "camping" for like a week and then be gone.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the wonderful replies!!!

I would be going out to Vegas for 2 things -

1) to play a bunch of poker

and 2) to hike and camp in the desert

Doing both for the next several months sounds like my idea of a good time.. I am currently between jobs, I am collecting unemployment, I have an off road truck camper that I can take anywhere, and I need to keep my expenses low.

I do like the idea of heading out to BLM land for camping, and I can do the occasional Walmart parking lot for overnight stays.. and use a gym for showers.

Or get someone in Vegas to let me rent their driveway for a few weeks and I can uber to the strip just a thought...

All good... take care

Is that your truck in your avatar picture with your camper?

Don’t uber, take the bus and save money.

I like the idea of staying on BLM land and hiking and such while there. Once again if you do that please take some pics.

Be careful parking on the strip. Some friends of mine had their van/trailer stolen from the Luxor RV lot. I'd definitely find a safe spot away from all the action and take an uber.

I feel like the obvious place to stealth camp in a van and play poker is the Orleans. I think they will ask you to leave if you have an obvious RV (not a stealth van) overnight.

I would consider sleeping during the day at one casino then driving to play at a different casino so that you aren't spending 24 hours at the same location.

I've seen several slide in campers on on the top floor of the Wynn parking garage

There's the north east lot of the Rio. I've seen RVs and big trucks park there on occasion.

The key is not to overstay your welcome. Move around. Keep receipts from purchases at that particular casino you're parking in.

Thanks for the info regarding BLM land. The info on the BLM website was very limited regarding camping on BLM land out there. So how do you camp on BLM land? The office at the park has limited hours....do you have to pay for a pass to park anywhere on BLM land ie not inside the actual park? I was under the assumption that one could stay on BLM land for free for up to 14 days.

Staying on BLM land would be my choice. I can almost guarantee you will be hassled by homeless people if you stay near the strip, or worse have something stolen. Crime in Vegas is no joke.

If we are talking lots there is a lot on Tropicana next to the Wild Wild West (I think they own it so I'm guessing you have to pay). There is a 24 hour Denny's there to get a quick bite to eat and always a fresh selection of hookers around at all times of the day. In and Out, the restaurant that is, a block away. Liquor store is a block in the opposite direction from the Strip with a decent selection. You can walk to the strip from there although not sure how comfortable I'd be leaving my vehicle parked there for any period of time unattended.

Notes for future trips:

-24hrs Denny’s on Trop has assortment of hookers for selection at all hours of the day.

They actually stand in front of the lot where all the trucks are. The younger, better looking ones are black. The few white ones I've seen look like they know their way around a truck lot and were on the older side. If you dont like what you see one day, there will be a new selection the next day.

You’re like yelp for hookers.

Thanks

Although there may be unmet industry demand for temporary accommodations, I doubt OP is looking to rent out his van in 15 or 20 minute increments
