Continued...
Driving back to Vegas I was pretty anxious since we were so close to the money. Strange considering min cash was around 4k and I spent 10x that. Nonetheless, Day 2 couldn't start fast enough. I had an additional buyin for a WSOP event if I didn't cash. The plan was to either be done before 3pm or make Day 2 last as long as possible after bubble. Won a flip for 400k 10 away from bubble and coasted into the money (high variance call on my part but that's me I guess). Was card dead the rest of the way and cashed for around 7k. It was already 6pm so too late to play another tourney. I was hungry and tired anyway.
Morning comes and I have 8500. Part of me didn't want to play cause of knowing how hard it was to cash top 4% but the other part wanted to take that shot. On the Palazzo side in front of high-stakes there's a bank of VP machines I always play. I only play machines that offer the "double-up" feature as most of my winning comes from doubling hands multiple times. So I have to take what they give me for paytables since many machines don't offer it. It's 6am and I'm playing my usual machines for an hour or so, winning and losing 1-2k. Just by chance the slot attendant says there's multi-line machines that offer double up in high-stakes. I wasn't getting anywhere so decided to give it a try.
There's a bank of 3 machines, I chose the middle. Went in there with a little over 10k. Played 5 line TDB at $5 demon. Went up 2-3k and then hit a 10k score on TDB. Went to the far right machine and put a couple k in, hit another 10k score. At 26-27 now. Hit a few nice doubles for 4-5k each. Back at 40! I decide to stop and reevaluate after eating something. I go for a tourist type walk for a couple hours and come up. Start with the typical 10k strap but get tickets as I'm tired of putting 100s in. 10k gone. Go back upstairs and get 20k this time with the mindset of the remaining 10k is my tourney score and money I brought, so I'll lock that up and risk the 20.
Go to cashier to get 4/2500 tickets again but decide to play 10-play this time. Down to last ticket and get a double for 4400 (have 6k total in machine). While waiting for that payout I go back to cashier and change up my other 10k strap for 4 more tickets. I play the one on the far left as the other 2 already hit 10k scores and as luck would have it:
Back at 36k! Hit a couple more doubles immediately after and have 44k. Stop and relax for the rest of the day until my girl gets into town later that night. Ok...well I did plan to stop but wanted to try my luck again later, before she came since I figured that kind of gambling probably won't be going on while she's here. Go back downstairs around 5 and win another 8k. At 52 and am done!
We played together later that night and lost 1k or something. I remembered I had earned a bunch in freeplay so used that to earn 2k more. At 54 now. Went and had dinner in which I told her it was comped and the next day there was a comp spa/massage for her. Figured I knew what I was doing by accepting these comps...indirectly telling her I had gambled a bunch. It wasn't needed as she asked me,"why, what did you do?" It was in a playful way as we both just grinned but when I explained to her the story, she just shook her head and the playful smile turned into a clinched jaw. We moved past that and enjoyed the rest of the evening. My assumption is she doesn't even want to hear about it anymore, regardless of win or loss. This is why I find it easier to keep the heavy swings to myself.
Next day comes and I play a lot smaller, but still lose 4k. My stopping point was 50 and I knew I couldn't go crazy since I wasn't alone. Losing the 4 did sting especially with not having a chance to get it back when I have plenty of ammo, so I didn't try...until we got back home and won 6400 in blackjack at the local. Total amount won over the 3 weeks was around 95k.
So here we are now. Didn't play yesterday and probably won't today. She's going out-of-town this weekend so I'll either be moving us into the new home (depends on if we can close in time), heading to Vegas or just realize I've been pretty lucky and lockup the money, for now. Not sure where my life is going to take me, but it's been a fun ride so far.
