My favorite food stall at Resorts World is Goggleman’s Noodles: Malaysian street food. The founder’s schtick is he wears goggles to protect his eyes from the smoke of perfecting his noodle dish recipe on the streets of Penang for over 40 years.

Unfortunately, about half the stalls in the food court are closed…. I guess because it’s Monday night. So I got a beef teriyaki and rice bowl with a side of kimchi and a coke, for $31.

When I added the kimchi side, I thought I’d be getting more than a ramekin of kimchi, but whatever. The teriyaki sauce was heavy on soy sauce, but it was good.

In for another 1k on a different table, which I already like more because there’s five stacks over 2k.

Round 2, ready?

Several players drinking, now we’ve agreed to mandatory $10 straddle UTG.

This could go very well or very badly…. But thankfully I didn’t bring much more to be able to hurt myself.

It went very well

Folded for a bit, had a 2.5k stack to my right doing a lot of limping the straddle and calling 40-50 dollar raises with anything he’d limped with.

That guy limps, I make it $40 with Ts9s, and flop the joint, 8-7-6 rainbow. I bet, and he checkraises. I remember the hand I played from the deepstack event, when I checkraised as a semi bluff and my opponent flatted with the flopped nut straight, and let me catch up on the turn to chop. I was not gonna make the same mistake, so I 3bet the checkraise, even in position. He immediately rips, and I almost beat him into the pot. Turn A, river deuce, and he says he had a set. My turn to be on the other end of the board not pairing.

A little later, a new player bought in for the max, $1200, and I raised pre to $50 over two limps to the straddle in the SB with AcJc. Flop 9c 7d 4c, so I bet 70, call. Turn Td…. And since I had the lead, I figured why not keep betting. I go 130, and he raises to 275. Hmmmm, well… thanks for being terrible at sizing. River is the beautiful 2c, so I count to 23 seconds in my head before announcing all in. He calls, and gets the bad news.

Sitting on about 3200 would prove to be my high water mark, as a couple players racked up and left. The game became 5-handed and more aggro, and I was feeling a bit too fatigued to play in a splashy game with a lot of money, and everyone being super deep.

I open the button to 30 with As9s, call, call, and the guy I stacked in the previous description makes it 180 out of the straddle. Whatever, I fold. Very next hand, I pick up JJ and open to 30 again. Call, call, same guy makes it 180 again. This is growing tiresome, so I 4bet to 450…. And he IMMEDIATELY shoves, for 2400ish.

Ok whatever, fk this I’m done. I don’t believe you here, but if I’m putting two and a half dimes in pre with JJ, it’s not ahead. I muck face up and go grab a rack, saying that’s my last donation for this game. He shows the kings as I’m putting my chips away.

Finish the session +1520, so +520 on the day. My focus is I’m pleased I made a good quit after getting stacked the first time on a fairly standard cooler, instead of tilt-ily reaching for more bills in a rock garden game. I made a good quit after the second session too, as my reasons for being at that table were no longer there. Would have been better to make that quit BEFORE 4bet/folding JJ for almost 5 bills, but I’m glad I eventually came to my senses. And ultimately made the correct decision.

Really my fault for being lazy…. Don’t know why I should be paying for a six dollar 20 oz coke when there’s a free fountain machine in the poker room

Nice runup!

Couldn't place the IHOP you mentioned for breakfast. Google maps shows me it's east of Stratosphere. Where were you walking from?

The IHOP and the Denny’s are right across the street from each other on Las Vegas Blvd at the southeastern most corner of the Arts District.

also, that Yardbird chicken looks incredible and I'm definitely going there when I'm in town. Weighing up the mac & cheese vs cornbread sides but will be going with others so can hopefully get both
I’ve had everything on the menu, biscuit>cornbread>>>Mac. If it’s your first time there I say go chicken and waffles and watermelon and get the fried green blt as an app

Woke up, had a long, HOT shower and a shave with my NEW shave gel, and felt like a new man. Then I decided I’d cross Soul Belly off my list, because it’s a short walk from my place.

It’s nestled in between two breweries, with outdoor seating and areas to bring your dog. Seems like a cool spot to chill for a while.

So the internet raves about the “burnt ends” at Soul Belly, and I don’t even know what that is. They don’t always have it in, because it’s apparently cubes of the crispy end pieces of the beef brisket that’s been cooked for hours and hours. So I got that, the mac and cheese side, and a Caesar salad.

It was REALLY good. The burnt ends were so tender, they’d practically disintegrate along the lines of the meat fibers when you stick your fork in. You can see the pink ring around the edges when it comes apart, too. A+, would recommend.

The mac and cheese was good too, but since I like comparing and contrasting, I’d say Yardbird’s mac and cheese was better. Soul Belly’s was creamier, but Yardbird’s was sharper and more cheddar-y, if that makes sense.

The dressing on the Caesar tasted weird…. Do not recommend. I don’t go to well-rated bbq places for the salad, though…. So it was still a great time, this feast was $42. Ask if they have burnt ends when you go, you won’t regret it.

The list for the Wynn wasn’t too crazy when I left, but it’s now at 42 when I got here. Oh well, on the list now and ready. They’ll open more cash tables when the donkament tables start closing.

Every time I walk through the Wynn, I’m overwhelmed by the notion that everybody in the building is a) more attractive than me, b) has more money than me, and c) has a higher mate value than me.

The poker room is also right next door to the Encore Beach Club… so occasionally you’ll see girls walking by, so you’ll turn your head and say “there’s the hottest girl I’ve ever seen, no wait, THERE’s the hottest girl I’ve ever seen.” It’s like, how are you even real.

So yeah, good times at the Wynn/Encore!

Wandered over to the lobby bar for a coke and a water. Starting my day off right, only getting the nuts:

Honey roasted cashews, to be precise. Quite good.

I got on the list an hour and a half ago, only up to 28th now

I got over here at 1:30, which is apparently the absolute worst time. Before the tournament starts, when everything is getting settled… or after registration closes, because then they’ve got spare dealers for new games… that would have been better.

For married guys in Las Vegas, there really is no better staycation in Las Vegas and I’ve done most of the wife worthy ones. She will love the spa the pool the service and the restaurants. For single guys older than like 25, do yourself a favor and pick your favorite Wynn restaurant and become a regular at the bar. Get to know the bartenders and they can help connect you with any single women stopping by for dinner.

I’ve had the watermelon juice…. I actually don’t like it. I think it tastes like it’s too close to the rind of the watermelon.

I actually think the carrot juice tastes better. Makes no sense.

Also… apparently we’re playing 2/5/10 again. Ah well… big stacks and big bets, let’s spin!
