Excited for your trip would be an understatement.
Meeeee tooooo!!

Thanks everyone…. Just grinding through the day job, counting down the hours to Friday night!

And yes there most definitely will be Thai food. My favorite Vegas Thai place is Lotus of Siam…. I’ve been to the first one, and I saw they just opened a new location at Red Rock. I’ve never been there either, so I’ll pick a day to kill two birds with one stone and go check it out.

Poker and great food - sounds like my kind of trip report. I'll be out there the same time as you playing a lot of similar stakes yet I do play a lot of 5/10 at Bellagio and mixed games as well. I know you said you like PLO at Aria but IMO, it's much better at the Wynn - especially with double board bomb pots. At least last summer I made a lot of my profit there as well as 2/5 at Bellagio etc. Anyway, enjoy and run good.....and oh, you know MGM is interesting. I used to think the same about their room but then last summer they ran a pretty big tourney series over there evidentially and I was hearing the low stakes games were actually excellent. Never went over myself, but that's what I heard. Not sure what their plan is this year. If no series, then I suspect it's as you describe and agree with your assessments otherwise. My 18th WSOP trip coming up! Let's go us!

Confirmed MGM can be a hidden gem regarding good games. Hit that spot couple of times last summer, excellent games and heard the same thing from multiple friends.

If you hold off until June 16 or 17 I'll be at Red Rock and plan to eat at Lotus of Siam too. I'd be happy to share a table

If you want the real deal, don’t eat lotus at the red rock location.

That weekend is the Monster Stack, which I don’t yet know if I’ll play. My plans are all up in the air at this point…. Send me a message when you get to town and we’ll figure something out.

Getaway Day is finally here!

Lots to do before I head to the airport tonight. In addition to finishing packing, I need to:

- get a haircut
- wander around a bookstore to find a book for the flight
- go to the bank
- buy a new comfortable pair of shoes for walking around
- eat or get rid of perishables in my place, and take out the trash

Beat- just got an email that my flight is delayed an hour and a half. I guess that’s what I get for flying Frontier.

Thankfully I hadn’t planned to do anything other than check in and go to bed tonight when I land…. I suppose it’ll just be closer to 1 am than 11:30.

I got a pair of Sketchers walking shoes from Costco. They are very comfortable.

We have a Wonder used book store near my place, I will make a point to pick something for my trip as well.

Good Luck with the flights, hope you get a decent shuteye on day 1.

The first rule of any casino trip, but ESPECIALLY a long trip, is: whatever you do, don’t get BURIED on the first night.

I did not heed this advice on my last weekend trip for a bachelor party at Cherokee…. I lost 2/3 of what I brought the first night. I battled back some from there, but it really set the tone for the trip, and there were multiple walks of shame to the ATM.

I’ll be landing late enough already, so I don’t want to go to a card room and play til 4 am and then find out I have issues checking in.

We’re gonna start at lower stakes, playing 1/3 to get my feet wet, and hone my reads and make sure they’re sharp, well rested and after a good breakfast all day Saturday!

Sounds like a good plan. Walk of shame to the ATM never feels good TJ Plays a Ton of Poker in Vegas for WSOP! ...And Occasionally Eats Even though swings is a part of the game of course.

One of my superstitions is to get my hair cut as close to leaving as possible. Day of is the nuts but not always an option. I’m calling this as early rungood for you!

I’m in Raleigh’s cute little international airport.

I’m spoiled, because I grew up in Atlanta, with the busiest airport in the world. Hartsfield-Jackson gets a lot of hate, but I suspect it’s because people get anxious around big crowds. I’ll defend the Atlanta airport as a marvel of efficiency…. Getting a LOT of people from A to B quickly. The lines may be long, but they keep it moving. I’d rather have that than a shorter line with incompetent staff holding everything up.

Speaking of that, our best and brightest at TSA are Keeping America Safe, by making me throw away my shave gel. I got to keep my razor, contact lens solution and aftershave lotion…. Both of which are over 3.5 ounces. You figure it out.

Anyway, security was a breeze, through in not even 15 minutes…. And now I’m an hour and a half early waiting for my delayed flight.

Go West, young man!

I know he died like 20 years ago, but I just can’t help myself. Incapable of walking past one if I see it on the shelf.

Will report back. Although I’m sure it’s more of the same, the ghost writers are a bit formulaic.

Airport novels are all about familiarity though and that’s AOK. I’ve read every Reacher book and it’s basically the same story 25 times and even that is basically a re-write of every A team storyline from the 80s

I like the Reacher books too! It’s tough when I see them in the store, because I can’t remember which ones I’ve read, and reading the description isn’t helpful because they’re all EXACTLY the same.

I went to the bookstore looking for a nonfiction book I had in mind, and try to actually learn something. I like the experience of walking through bookstores, but since they didn’t have it, I guess I’m better off with Amazon. Oh well.
