Played 50 minutes, booked a quick $40 win without going to a single showdown. Red line off to a good start, that covers breakfast

Tournament starting, with 20k stacks at 100/200.

Be fruitful and multiply, little chippies!

$500 chips should be pink. $5000 chips should be purple. Should post that in the things that piss you off thread but shouldn't. HA

Sending run good Karma! 👍

One of the things I dearly miss about living in the DFW Metroplex is Waffle House. Back in the early nineties when I was trolling honkytonks with my buddy, they had an all you can eat special for $5.99 between 11pm and 5am. With coffee it was $7 and change, so out the door for $10 buck.

Go to order to start... pecan waffle, side of bacon, double order of hash browns scattered smothered and covered, 3 eggs sunny side up with white toast.

Then another side of bacon, single order of hash browns SS&C, 2 eggs sunny side up with toast. And on occasion another pecan waffle for dessert. HA!

I weighed 165 lbs. Still amazes me how much food I could put away back then. I'm pushing a buck-ninety now and that would be 3 breakfasts for me now.

First break, in fine shape at 37.6k coming back to the big blind in the 300/600/600 level.

I played pretty tight the first three levels. There were two marginal spots I was in, where it would have basically been for my stack to continue. Since they were close, I passed them up, and both times I folded the best hand, and would have won.

In the 300/500 level, a player opened to 1100, and a big stack (who played looser as he kept winning) 3bet to 5100, and I looked down at black queens in the big blind. I thought for a moment and moved in for my 24k.

When he didn’t snap call, I exhaled a bit. He eventually called with 88 and I held.

That guy later won a 3way preflop all in with the 3rd place hand, so he’s back to being our table chipleader. I like my seat two to his left. And, there’s a good amount of money on our table, as 5 people busted in the first 4 levels.

Just gonna keep looking for good spots.

Busto in level 6.

Open KJo, get 3bet, fold. Open again, miss, and cbet air, can’t continue. Down to 24k at 400/800, open QQ to 2200, get 3bet to 6500 from a newer player I hadn’t seen. I shove, AA snaps, and holds.

Don’t think I can get away from QQ pre, with the table dynamics I’d seen. Oh well, not concerned by it.

Already registered for the 4pm. It’ll be a long day if I bag, but I’m feeling good.

In again at 1/3, keeping it easy and staying sharp.

Those aren't raisins; they're baby roaches. Have you never been to an Awful House?

I love the damn places--except for the perpetually sticky tables and counters.

Round 2 of the cash game went swimmingly, +$230. Had an 80+ VPIP guy drinking two to my right, then I caught him with a set of 3’s for a full double.

Later against him I caught a gutshot, and went for the ~450bb pot, but I must have bet too much, because he ran away like a scalded dog.

Back in Flight B of the tournament, first impression is my table seems pretty soft. We like it.

Flight A got 601 entries, and each of the next 3 flights should be bigger. I’m expecting 2400-2800 entries total, hopefully we come in on the high side of that.

First break, doing splendid with 55.3k. I’m a little annoyed, because I made a mistake and a ruling went against me, and had I acted correctly, I’d have maybe 30k more.

I rivered a boat first to act heads up in a big pot with a terrible, inexperienced player. I was gonna move in, but I didn’t want to snap move in, so I let the moment marinate while I “thought about it.”

Then the other guy moves all in out of turn. I say whoa whoa whoa, it’s on me. So I move in, and now the other guy folds.

The floor was called over, and he ruled that because I changed the action, his all in wasnt binding. If I’d checked, it would have been, the all in would stand, and I could have just called. He blasted off a few hands later, not to me.

He was super inexperienced, and kind of excruciating, holding up play and getting chip counts wrong. I don’t think he was shooting an angle, just sucks I couldn’t have stacked him.

I’ve moved on. I’m in great shape, in position on the only stack that has me covered, just patiently grinding.

We’re playing 19 levels, or down to 5% of the field. 4 down, long way to go today.

Second break, 88.5k coming back to 1k/1.5k/1.5k. I was up over 120k, but I bet/bet/shoved a strong top pair, got called down by middle pair, and he rivered his kicker. Wasn’t a huge pot, but I’m staying serene.

Fatigue starting to set in, and we still have 11 more levels before bagging. I’ve seen and taken every kind of beat before, so I don’t really get “hot” tilt…. But I’m definitely susceptible to “cold” tilt. Jumping right into the 4pm after playing basically nonstop with some breaks since 10am may have been a bad idea.

This flight won’t bag until around 2am. I’m being mindful to get up and walk around some to clear my head.

Still, I have a very workable stack, some reads, and some stacks to target. We’re gonna stay patient and focused, and not force anything.

Drink water and maybe some sugar free caffeine

Third break, it was a good 4 levels for me. Sitting on 192k coming back to 2k/4k/4k, average is about 125k, and we’re less than 9 players away from busting for the bubble. I, of course, don’t care anything about a ~$600 mincash, I’m eyeing that bag.

Played some big hands that really boosted my confidence. A guy I was targeting opened, and I checkraised flop nearly a committing amount when I flopped a combo draw. It came on the turn, and I got a nice double. Later I made a big ace high call down and was right.

I also got an above average distribution of starting hands, that helps. Hopefully it continues.

Bubble at 82, I think there’s 87 left, and we’re playing down to 28, or level 19, whichever comes first.

Let’s get it!

Ah well.

63rd place, for $640 (plus a $2 toke for the dealers).

I played two all in pots, got it in as a slight but real favorite, and lost both. Can’t have that happen late in a tourney.

MP opens to 9k at 2/4, I flat black eights in the CO, both blinds come along. Flop Kc 7c 6c, checked to me so I take a stab for 15k. Both blinds fold, then the original prefllop raiser shoves for his last 39k total. Well, I have a pair and a draw, and one or the other might be good, and anyway he doesn’t have enough to move me off that much equity. I call, and he has the naked Ac, to go with the Th. The turn of the 8d takes away some of his outs, but tourney vets know that just guarantees the 3c is coming on the river.

Later I open AsJs, a looser, tilting player who just lost a big hand shoves preflop, I call and lose to his KhTh.

Raise once and miss, fold through the 3k/6k blinds, and suddenly I’m down to 40k. Folds to the HJ who limps, and I guess the chart says I’m supposed to rip K8o with less than 7 bigs from the CO. The big blind reships to isolate, and I’m in bad shape against KQo.

Nh, gg, and gl everyone.

And so, after 14 hours of play today, between 3 hours of 1/3 and two bullets in the donkament, I’ve netted +$110, lol.

Overall, I’m really happy with my play today. I was very patient for long stretches, actively observing my opponents, adapting to them, and didn’t make many river calls to show down losers, which is one thing that tilts me.

A full day of playing poker when you win more than you started with has to be considered a pretty great day.

I told myself up to 3 bullets in this donkament. I’m gonna sleep in tomorrow, get a good meal, and fire just the last 4pm flight tomorrow. Playing both flights today was a bad idea.

And maybe test out the PLO streets if I find myself with free time.

One thing is for sure, the 1/3 games are almost boringly stress-free and easy, if you just patiently wait to make hands. That’s a refreshing change of pace from stressful, deepstacked 2/5 games in Vegas, where people are capable of making moves.

Min cashes can be frustrating, but it's always nice to get a positive result early in a trip.

You avoid the dreaded 0-for and can hopefully build momentum towards the mega bink.
