Bought in for tomorrow’s flight of the Gladiators. No line at 9 pm.

Got a good table draw, in the white table section. The tables in the Horseshoe convention center break first, then the green table sections break next, and the white section is where we all were after the bubble popped.

Definitely wasn’t feeling a cash game session tonight after an 11 hour day. I’m home now, and I have time to do my laundry. I’ll be in bed at a reasonable hour, and wake up in time for breakfast to do it all again!

We got over 4k entries yesterday, and 4.6k today. Tomorrow and Saturday should be much bigger…. But we may not get to 30k entries like I’d hoped. Still, the chip leaders who bag tomorrow or Saturday should have more chips than the chip leaders who bag tonight and yesterday.

I’m not complaining about two cashes after firing three bullets. Tomorrow, let’s find that bag!

These days I only get Strip food if I'm too tired to go get fast food like In N Out, which I can't get at home anyway. For actual sit-down restaurant, I go to places like South Point. Bottled water and sodas, I bring with me if I'm staying in a place with a refrigerator.

First break, and things are going just peachy, up to about 49k. Just been steadily chipping up, mostly without showdown.

The biggest hand I played, I cold-flatted from the button a smallish 3bet with 99, and he checks the 7-6-2r flop to me. No free over cards, so I bet, get called, and he checks the 8 turn to me. I bet again, he calls again, and check/folds to my shove on the river T.

The only stack that has me covered is to my direct left, which is less than ideal. He seems tight/passive and uncreative, so I can give him credit for a hand if he plays back at me.

The guy to HIS left apparently thinks I’m FOS, he’s 3bet me twice. The first time, I called and x/f the missed flop, and the second time I folded preflop. 4bet coming soon, sir.

We just got an action player late reg’ed two to my right, let’s see if we can get to him first.

Applaud your enthusiasm to tourneys tj. Think that is a big part of the battle, having fun and giving yourself a chance. I sit down in tourneys and regardless of buyin I want to be anywhere else within two hours if I’m not instantly a big stack.

Bah lost the classic tourney flip, AKo > QQ.

14k now…. We’ll see where I can find to get it in.

Still only 300/600/600, so I can pick a good spot.

Busto. There’s a raise to 1.4k from UTG, two calls, and I call for 800 more in BB with Kh2h. Flop K-T-4 one heart. Original raiser checks, the button bets 3.5k. I shove for 14.7k, he shrugs and calls and I’m actually in great shape against JTo…

But not when he drills the T on the turn. Nh, gg, and gl everyone.

I’ve been eating too much absurdly priced food court food lately, so I’m gonna cross another place off my list.

Probably come back here to play 2/5, they have the most dealers and the shortest lists.

Ubered over to try Shang’s Artisan Noodles, but the line was out the door and a 45 minute wait. Rats.

There’s a Thai place next door, but there’s a dumpster out front and it’s closed for remodeling.

There’s a Capriotti’s sandwich shop in the same shopping center, so I decided on that. I can get Capriotti’s back home, but I’m hungry and I’m here. And it’s nice to not be paying strip prices.

The food court in the shoppes at the Venetian has a Popeyes and a Chipotle in it which have normal local non strip prices if you are willing to take a hike.

6$ chicken sandwich might as well be free on the strip!

Dang, that pic reminds me of how much I miss the Paris poker room. Had a lot of fun in that place.

Put in a good session and booked a modest yet solid +650. The game sucked towards the end, with tough, tight, solid opponents, so I’m pleased I made a good quit.

The big hands I won weren’t that interesting…. I was a pretty big river rat on a few occasions.

Raise from EP, I call in CO with 55, multi-way flop T-4-4 and checked to me, so I bet to thin the field. One caller, turn 8 putting two diamonds out, I check back. River the beautiful 5d, and I got a large bet check/called.

Another hand, I call from the button an open with QJo, flop T-9-3 rainbow and checked to me. I bet 2/3 pot with the open ended and two overs, turn 5 and checked again to me. Well, I feel like I have a ton of equity against a hand like AT, with initiative, so I bet again and he calls. River is the glorious Kh, and I got another large bet check/called.

It’s here I’ll note that I had position in both those hands…. There may be something to that

There were, however, some interesting hands that I lost. I open JJ to $30 from MP with an UTG straddle, a solid player who makes it 85. We started about $1800 effective. I call, flop is T-6-2 two clubs. He bets $70, and I decide to raise here to $185. I don’t really know what the plan is here if he 3towns it… That would generally suck and make me hate life, but after thinking, he calls. Turn is the 5s, putting two clubs and two spades out, and he checks. I’m not really sure what kind of range I put him on here, but herp derp I haz overpair in 3bet pot, so I make it $245. He thinks even longer, then calls. River a red queen, and he checks. I check back quickly, and his KK is good.

Another interesting hand with an unknown player. A weaker player starting around $600 opens to $15, I 3bet in position to $55 with AKo, and a young Indian guy playing the $1k max who just sat down cold 4bets to $170 from SB. The weaker player calls. Hmmmmm. I think 5betting here would be a tad excessive, and I have position so I flat, planning to rip it over any action if I make a pair. Flop 6-6-2, and the 4bettor checks? Other guy checks, um, so I check back. Turn is a 9, 4bettor leads out $220, other guy calls. I guess I’m done, so I fold. River another deuce, 4bettor shoves, other guy calls with JJ and loses, to 7s6s.

Well, as Sun Tzu once said, “All war is deception.”

Please, sir, teach me how to cold 4bet crap from the SB and flop trips like it’s supposed to be there.

Anyway, after establishing that juicy of an image, he proceeded to go into lockdown, and the game wasn’t that good so I racked up.

So now it’s 9:30 on a Friday night in Vegas at the WSOP, and I don’t know what I want to do.

I just finished a 6-hour 2/5 session, after busting the donkament where I played 3 hours…. So I’m really not feeling more poker right now.

If I want to play tomorrow’s final flight of the Gladiators event, I need to buy in tonight. They “only” got 6100 entries today, to go with the 4.6k yesterday and the 4k something from Wednesday. Tomorrow should be the biggest flight by far, but I was really hoping for closer to 30k entries. It doesn’t look like we’ll get there.

Plus, I’m a little burned out on tournaments, after playing each of the first three flights. If I’m not making that top-0.001% final table run, I feel like the best return on my card playing time and focus this weekend is at cash game tables.

So as much as it pains me to walk away from the WSOP at 9:30 on a Friday night, I think I’ll go home, take a long hot shower and shave, and put in another long day tomorrow.

I definitely feel like I got my card playing hours in today, and it was a good day, so no regrets.
