As I'm board while waiting for a game at the Aria I thought I would write my thoughts on tilting when playing, yesterday I ran a little bad but probably lost as much through bad play as running bad, for some reason some times when going behind a little switch goes of in the back of my head and says that I must get back this money as quickly as possible, this in turn leads to play marginal/crap hands and most of them out of position as well, another interesting thing tends to be that other players smell the blood in the water and tend to feed, normally I switch venue or stop playing, just wondered what you do?

I will usually leave, walk around a little, go run 20 bucks in a slot machine to clear my mind, and then just go switch rooms and hope that I will be on the right side of the beats. some days, when the run bad just seems to follow me, ill just quit for the day.

Basically this.

It is pretty difficult to right that ship once you're heading for the rocks. Best thing to do is take a break.

I'm loving the tr though. Thanks for taking the time to post it!

^.....this is a time tested method and seems to work well

Because the alternative is pushing it, and pushing and trying to make things happen, then you just get buried more.

I'm going to remember that line -"some days it just follows me around"....LOL, so true!

Las Vegas has to be the number one place to burn off tilt. When I am on tilt, I get up, go to bar, have some drink, people watch, walk the strip and see boobs, walk back in casino see more boobs. Tilt gone

Loss related tilt usually always means short stacking.
If I am not planning on topping off or rebuying, I would just push any edge I feel I might have.

As far as working off tilt, which usually doesn`t happen often to me, I try to meditate at the table... if it happens to be really bad, I mght go to the bathroom. After a minute or two, I am ready and level.

you definitely need to learn how to recognize that and defuse it or leave

Everyone is different, and everyone will find different things effective to overcome tilt. I can share what has worked for me...

I've always been insanely competitive, and I played a lot of sports growing up. And so when I face possible tilt I remind myself of these 2 facts:

1. My goal is to become the best poker player in the world
2. There is definitely some poker player out there who could be in my exact same situation and not tilt.

This triggers my competitive sense, and it almost immediately results in me dropping my negative emotions/tilt. No matter how tough it is to overcome my emotions, the sting of having to fall asleep at night knowing that someone else out there would've overcome the tilt better than me is way way worse.
