When looking through old banking stuff a while ago I was reminded that I stayed at the good old Imperial Palace for four weeks for roughly $1000 in 2009. Thanks to a more favorable $-€ exchange rate back then I paid less for a Vegas hotel than for my studio apartment (that wasn't much bigger) at home for that month.
Still, if you compare current hotel room rates with what you pay in other resort cities, today's Vegas hotels are really cheap. No beaches though.
