Hey sorry to potentially repost this as there was no reviews on the twenty dollar trick website. I'm heading to the Rio in Feb and wanted to know if anyone has had any success with the 20 dollar trick here and if so what kind of upgrades should I ask for. Thanks.

tried 20$ trick @ PH and she gave me the $ back and i asked "is there any possible upgrades? maybe a fountain view?" she said no... typed and then said ill show you what i can do for you and showed me in a book what was available. I got the Resort room. well worth asking!!! i woulda paid the 20 for that room. still had a small view of the fountains @ bellagio.

They are not allowed to accept tips for providing free upgrades at PH but they can accept tips for good service. Just word it that way when checking in at PH and you should be fine.

I haven't been there either, but I'm checking in on Monday morning, so I'll report back for you.

I stayed @ Rio almost 2yrs ago and tried the $20 trick. I didn't ask for a particular room (my fault in not looking up the "upgrades" prior to going) and ended up with a strip view and -$20. Rooms in Rio are suites to begin with tho. I would ask for the Cariocas Suite. It's 1100sq ft, living room, wet bar, WIC, etc. They're only $1,200 retail for the night.....

Ask for the Masquerade suites at the Rio. They're 1600 SF. They are really nice but the tv's are all old tube ones from the 90's.

I have never gotten them for free with the $20 trick but I did get them to do it for $50 extra a night for a friend of mine.

Ive had success in PH(july 4th weekend 2010, two rooms upgraded) and MGM(july 4th 2009).

There is no downside imo, well worth it, would love a proper upgrade to room with jacuzzi as too mean to pay for it next time i go

What room(s) should I have in mind to ask for at Mandalay?

More or less likely to do this if the room is already comped? Or no impact?

Currently have Caesar's Forum Tower Deluxe room comped from 3/11 -3/15, would really like something with a little more space with there being four us.

Yes, I could pay, but every dime saved is more for hookers and blow.

Ask for a corner room in the Augustus tower. I usually get upgraded to that with a tip when I check in to Caesars on a comp.

Or ask for a handicapped room, they are usually bigger at Caesars too.

I'm planning a stay at the Desert Rose resort in a month. Do you think the trick might work there as well? I'm asking because it's a lot smaller than any of the casinos mentioned in this thread, not sure what the effect of that difference is... it doesn't appear on those 'where does the trick work' lists either.

My brother is staying at Treasure Island in 2 weeks, What kind of upgrade should he ask for while using the $20 trick??

Maybe stupid question but I've never tried the $20 trick when already getting a comped room, is there less of a chance this works due to that? Have a few free rooms at Harrah's in April.

Rethink staying there. Do a google search with the words Desert Rose and CC info stolen. Why someone would stay there over a real casino/hotel on the strip is beyond me.

TI used to give a upgrade for first timers, usually strip view or high floor. I'd go for Petite suite. ? can you see if they give you free upgrade and then ask if they don't?

I had asked the same thing earlier in the thread, because I was going to stay there, and wasn't sure if a condo/hotel would work the same way. In the end, I never bothered with it, but they gave a complimentary upgrade without me having to ask. Mind you, all that was, was a view of the Bellagio fountain...

I'll try it when we stay there and update this thread with the results. I was thinking of trying $40 and ask for a Panoramic Suite for free (or heavily discounted).

I have a comped stay at the Rivera (f-you, its free goddamnit) for a few nights in March. It never really dawned on me to try the $20 trick on a comped stay until I saw this thread. I really don't care where I sleep/shower for the most part but I am traveling with another and I guess it would be nice to have a "better" room if the price was right ($20-$40). Since its kind of a lower tier strip property I wont feel dirty trying to pawn off $20 to get a room upgrade

I am staying at Planet Hollywood Feb 22-25, and my hotel stay is comped, any chance the $20 trick will work for comped rooms?
