You ask while laying 20$ on the desk, or just ask and tip her if you got the upgrade ?
Folding a bill between ID and CC seems awkward..

You think there is any chance they give upgrades to suites at this time of year for 10 nights ?

I just tell her that I'll take care of her if she takes care of me. Simple, no need to whip it out (the $20 that is, or anything else).

And no, you're probably not getting an upgrade for 10 nights.

Same question : any upgrade available according to u ?

Thanks !

If you're at the Venetian they won't upgrade you to Palazzo since it's a separate hotel, and aside from that they're pretty much identical so it's not like one would be considered an upgrade over the other. And if you pay them $20 for a high floor, you're a sucker. High floors don't cost extra. There really isn't anything of value that you can realistically upgrade to at Venetian.

Thanks for your reply, Eco.

I thought it could be possible after reading this on a website :

"Booked Bella suite in Venezia tower through expedia. Wed through Sat stay. Checked in around 7 pm wed night. At check in, I put my credit card on counter with $20 bill sticking out under it and asked if any complimentary upgrades were available. Clerk was very pleasant and left $20 on counter while searching. After a few minutes she told me that she had a bella suite available on 36th floor or palazzo with strip view (treasure island and north). She made sure to see if this was acceptable before putting the $20 in her pocket. This was the first time I've ever done anything like this and I was skeptical. It worked great though. The view was amazing." (link here)

Anyway, can I still ask for an upgrade @ The V (without knowing what kinf of ugrade they can offer) ?

What about the Wynn ? Some here had good results ?

My experiences from the last 2 years.

- Flamingo , tried it 3 times with no success. Payed on my first visit the upgrade to a Go room and got a Bellagio Fountain/Strip view with it which was really nice and worth the 20$/night .

Sidenote: I like the design of the Go rooms alot. When i´m only in my room to sleep and chill i take the small but new/hip Go room design over the traditional design of for example Venetian every time.

- MGM, no success, the lady said they´re fully booked and it was really packed so i think she was not lying. Got atleast highfloor with nice stripview but at the end of the hallway which sucks at MGM.

- IP got a suite one time for the 20$ other two times nothing.

- Mandalay Bay, on my very first night ever in vegas got upgraded to a media suite after missing one night of a 4 night stay because US Airways messed up the flight.
Unfortunatly had to move to a regular room after the first night, but when i think about it my eyes still start to glow. As i walked in the room as a 22y old kid and had this amazing view over the strip at night and checked out this (for me) massive suite, you never see a kid in a candy store with such a smile on his face. From this moment i was hooked.

Stayed at IP for 2 nights at the end of my last trip for free (i know, baller) and they upgraded me before I even had the chance to ask. In fairness it was a Sunday/Monday night so they were probably fairly empty.

And I kind of lolled to myself about Aria being fully booked. Aren't they running pretty well below capacity unless it's a serious weekend?

Yeah I guess you can switch from Venetian to Palazzo at the desk, but you're switching, not upgrading. You also then have to trudge all the way over there. Palazzo is a little bit nicer but is essentially the same thing, and is usually the same price (or cheaper). Of course you can ask for an upgrade, but there isn't really anything of value that they CAN give you- there is no middle-class room at Venetian. It's standard room or 1500sq ft suite.

Don't know about Wynn. If you're not at minimum getting put in Tower Suites (which is the same room but a more private tower), it isn't worth it.

Success at Tropicana LV. $20. asked for a suite w/ a no go. But then asked for a high strip view and resort fees waived for 6 days. Both were granted.

going to vegas mid august with a few buddys. my friend booked the tickets, and the final decision was made while i was out of the country and unreachable, so of course he booked the stratosphere lol. has anyone actually stayed there? the place seems to get no respect so i imagine they'd be more inclined to give upgrades to try to get ppl to come back. im thinkin $20 if i get an oasis suite and $50 for a premiere suite. thoughts?

walking through the strat (was going to the rides on top) the casino itself didn't seem terrible, but the location sucks - you're far away from everything.

the quickest is cab prob $10 each way, bus if you have time like 30 min each way, or monorail but it's probably as expensive as cab so I'd do the cab anyhow

Nice! I wouldve rather had this than resort fees waived. Especially since they still charged my account for the resort fees 5 days after check-out. Did they just offer the comp dollars? are you already known at the Trop? Thats a pretty sweet deal.

I predict that, because this "trick" has been so widely advertised and abused, that we will see more and more staff explicitly instructed to refuse upgrade requests. I would do so if I was the hotel manager.

My results since November 2010:

went to Bally's in Nov and they offered it to me.
February - was denied at IP (checked in late but was told to try again next day as they were booked when I checked in). Friends were denied at Harrahs.
2 weeks ago - worked at Harrahs for both of my parties that were checking in.

Am I wrong for being ageist in spots like this? I just feel like if you get anyone over the age of 50 checking you in, you're going to get snap-rejected/given a dirty look (though why would anyone that old working at check-in NOT want free money, right?)

Guess I won't be staying at Flamingo next trip out though if that's the case.

Anyone try Hooters? I'll be there from 8/08-8/12. I got the cheapest room available and I'm hoping a nice twenty can get me a nice upgrade. Btw, should I ask for something specific or just ask for a complimentary upgrade?

Why? If you have spare rooms then might as well upgrade people, they will be more likely to stay with your hotel next time.
