TBH, I’m not as impressed as I wanted to be. I guess I thought it would be more immersive and more encompassing. Probably much more impressive in person but I’m now currently wowed.

Saw the show and I actually got bored about midway through it. They just relied on the visuals to keep people interested. And the visuals were spectacular.

The plot/message took too long to develop and was basically “Nature is beautiful, life developed and it was awesome, then humans showed up and humans were bad because they destroyed nature.”

Thanks, you saved me from having to see it.

I was thinking the same thing Rick. Bono specifically can't sing anymore. Maybe he never could?

I saw the Cure a few months back, and think they could do a pretty good job in the Sphere.

also very strong likelihood you and I (you particularly so) tend to go to concerts of bands with less refinement and production in the studio during recording

the biggest gap I've ever seen was Grimes - real big fan of some of her songs - kind of want to see her live in person just to experience the disappointment first hand

this is a pop masterpiece

and this is her doing this same song live - i respect that she's trying to do it herself instead of singing into a recording and that she brings the energy but it's difficult to tell it's even the same song

This might be one of the worst takes I've ever read on the internet. Congrats!

Oh come on.
Compared to their studio recordings?
Not even close.
Concerts are full of energy but they usually sound terrible.

Especially when they're 60+

Bands that are really good just sound better live. They get to open up more on the stage than recorded. Especially if they don't have huge recording budgets.

Some of the bands I'll see live any chance I get:

Drive-By Truckers
Wilco
Jason Isbell
Sturgill Simpson
The Mavericks
Dawes
Margo Price
Ryan Bingham

But hip hop artists normally sound pretty bad live. It's basically a studio medium. Although I found both Cypress Hill and Outkast to be rather good live. Even then, not as good as on wax.

Guess that's what I was trying to say.
Love many bands, listening to their recordings, then I see them live and they can't come close to what I liked about them and they're almost cringe.
Love U2, but there not a great live band, at any age.
Love Tool, hated them live.
Saw Wilco, last fall outdoors, and he/they were better live than recorded.
But I'm sticking to hardly any bands sound good live, especially when they're over 60
End of derail...

Can't wait for DBT in Tucson in Nov. They are one of my favorite live bands.

Just saw Wilco. Great live band. Kicking Television is one of the best live albums, and their show two weeks ago in Scottsdale had a lot of the same songs, with a few from the brand-new album thrown in.

Neither would do well in the Sphere, though it might sound incredible. I'd like to see bands like Phish, Panic, maybe Dead n Co (or whatever a surviving member of the Grateful Dead tours as with their light show). Bands big enough to have the infrastructure to support a huge stage/light show, and can fill the room with sound and attendees.

Not sure how many of "my" bands can attract 18k.

Nice. I'm skipping Wilco this time around. The last few albums have they've gone in a different direction than my tastes have been going.

I actually haven't been to many concerts post pandemic. Only two that I remember: Khruangbin in 2021 at Red Rocks. I took a couple of weeks hiking in CO and UT on the way to the 2021 WSOP that fall.

Also saw a two day Americana music festival in summer of 2022.

Between the BS Ticketmaster fees, everyone holding their cameras up during the shows, and all of the over served drunks, I just haven't been into the concert scene anymore.

I did see the re-relase of the Talking Heads concert film Stop Making Sense last month for the film's 40th anniversary.

Even though I own a DVD copy of the film and watch it once a year, it was amazing to see it remastered in IMAX and with a killer sound system. Kind of bummed I didn't go more than once, actually.

That recorded the songs 30 to 40 years ago.

The sphere's sound quality is supposed to be really good in person.

Radiohead would be a world event.. I think they've earned it.
