When they were building it I didn't really see what the big deal was. It's a concert venue... but round! Wow.

Now that it's done, I think it's awesome. When it has the moon display on, for example, it really looks like the moon is about to collide with earth or something. Really cool.

It’s a big sphere thing

But it is quite cool and the graphics on it are top notch. It was the Death Star once which was cool

It's cool I don't fully understand what the inside looks like

Looks cool.
Headed out next week with some buddies.
Hoping to get out to see it and probably spend some time playing poker and eating a meal nearby as well.

If we head out, which spot is better: Venetian/Palazzo or Wynn/Encore?

I don’t either. I’ve seen videos but have never seen it in person. Is the inside even open yet? I know U2 will be having some shows there soon but I don’t know if it will be open to the public before that.

It's certainly looking extremely cool and impressive. Largest LED wall in the world.

No idea how they plan on recouping construction cost of $2.3bln though. That's just insane. Allegiant Stadium cost $1.9bln.

I heard a couple funny stories about the initial design process from people working at Populous when we lived in walking distance to their HQ. Haven't talked to anyone since Covid though.

Glen Lerner, Ed Bernstein and Ken Bowden have purchased billboards across the street.

Have you seen ticket prices for these upcoming U2 shows? Even mid-week were north of $1k. Still, how many shows to make up that $2bln?

I'll never pay more than $5 for U2, but I thought I'd look.

Apart from the U2 shows, in October it will begin showing a Darren Aronofsky show, "Postcard from Earth".

I'm guessing inside will be something like a Planetarium, except with LED screens instead of a projector. We'll probably check out one of the shows in October.

This past weekend we decided to check out the view of the Sphere from the High Roller, which was pretty cool. The evening display was kinda like a glorified screensaver but still awesome to see.

IMO the primary attraction to Sphere is presenting a true surround experience that AFAIK has never been done (outside of a few one-offs, possibly).

I recall watching This is Cinerama, which was about 146* and was quite impressive for its time. Unfortunately the format encountered technical obstacles in filming and retro fitting with existing cinemas. It was however very popular, and set revenue records from the very few cinemas equipped to show the format.

I'm guessing this will be a huge hit and entertainers will queue up to play the venue.

Nah, Omnimax at Caesars in the early 80's was pretty much true surround.

I would post pics, but it doesn't seem to be working right.

Not 360* horizontal surround, which is the closest to true surround technology can get.

I guess you could get 360* horizontal AND vertical surround, but you would probably be the only person able to view the show.

I’m no big city venue owner but that seems like a hefty percentage of ticket sales.

Caesars Omnimax was about 100 degrees vertical. Having the screen be in surround where you can't see it, as in behind your head, is a waste. The sound was surround.

I recall watching America the Beautiful at Disneyland. Comparing the two I'd give the edge to Cinerama as the sound was incredible and the viewing experience was similar to a traditional cinema. The roller coaster ride was quite thrilling.

The picture quality of Ametica the Beautiful was lacking, maybe because it was continually shown for several years IIRC. It also did not attempt to bridge the gaps between the screens.
