I feel like everyone and their grandma (no pun intended lol) now know that casino security is told to not do anything and pretty much let them get away. It's happening more frequently than before and wouldnt be shocked at all if it only kept happening more and more frequently.

You're viewing it from the wrong direction. Robberies like that can happen because the casinos are trying hard to make sure there won't be a "messy" one. That's the number #1 objective.

Casinos try to handle it the same way banks do. You don't want anyone to get shot on the premises, including the robber.

This is like what, the 5th Vegas casino robbery in the last few months? How can this keep happening? I can't believe it's not a bigger national news story. Are the casinos just going to keep letting it happen or are they going to do anything to stop it?

what I don't understand is how they all manage to get away. With this example, how hard is it to radio to the 'master' control room, have them follow the person to the car they get in via camera's and then provide this information to the cops so they would be on the look out for a specific vehicle?

In the old days these "robbers" would be found in the desert. It's a sign of the soft times we live in. It's becoming comical. I guess the next robber will be on a scooter?

some banks have it figured out...

My thinking is that some crazy is going to see that casinos are an easy target and will just show up guns a blazing try this and do something stupid like shoot someone either by accident or nerves or show how gangster they are.

I get the casino is playing it safe. I sure would just hand it over my crap paycheck is not worth my life.

Next time there are zero customers inside South Point, security might engage the lady. Not sure how much the lady took, but it’s probably less than $100k? A shootout in the casino is significantly more expensive.

FWIW, the US might be the only Western country where the security guard in that bank video doesn’t end up in jail.

Right now I would believe most casino operators are more concerned about preventing psychos like Stephen Paddock from basing the next mass shooting out of their properties

Back in 2000, TI (Treasure Island back then) alone was robbed three times. Las Vegas Sun reports 19 casino heists in 2003, and 15 in 2004. Compared to that, what is reported now is barely a streak.

According to this Cicso white paper, 50% of casino losses are due to employee theft. The exact amounts lost due to heists are not reported, but my guess is they make up a fraction of the total operating losses. For financial reasons alone, robbery prevention may not be the highest priority.

Finally, FBI reports a total of 48 bank robberies in all of Nevada in 2017, many times more than the number of casino robberies. While none of these are big national news, perpetrators appear to prefer banks over casinos.

My guess is that there are MANY on 2p2 that consider 30 to be old...much less anyone in their 40's or who might even simply be approaching their 40's.

The getaway vehicle should be easy enough to find...anyone stupid enough to use an easily identifiable vehicle deserves their inevitable prison term. If they want to blend in, use a generic fleetmobile. A blinged out car like that one is just calling out OceanSpray's name for attention...

In light of these robberies and what Steve Wynn is accused of, perhaps the Mob running Vegas wasn't such a bad idea in practice.

It’s still early in the year and if she doesn’t get caught, it will encourage others to do the same. Somebody has to be thinking if she can do it, they can do it. At the rate there could be over 20 or 30 of these types of robberies this year.

We’ll see if something happens but based on what has happened after other robberies, I’m skeptical. This is what’s interesting to me. She may not be “old,” but she didn’t exactly look like an Olympic athlete in her 20’s either.

At first police thought it was a man that robbed the casino. So they couldn’t even get that part right.

There are over 100 casinos in Las Vegas. If there were 20 robberies a year, every casino would be hit once every 5 years on average. That doesn't sound like something casinos would be too concerned about?

Our local CVS and Walgreens have both been robbed five or six times in the 3 years we live here..

They've done that for every publicized casino robbery I can think of, including this one.

I've never been to vegas so I have no clue what the traffic patterns are like, but I guess I always assumed that place had cops (foot/patrol) all over the place. That car in this case is such a one-off car, how is it not seen if "heading north on vegas blvd"?

That is a nice Burberry scarf too.

I think if you tried to rob Binion's back in the day, you would be shot.

I don't know about some banks having it figured out. In this case it looks like the guard was lucky to see the robber first and the robber was too stupid to look for armed security. Normally robbers this brazen immediately spot security with their gun pointed at them. Not much security can do in those cases.

But the point is how many blinged mid-80's Buick Riviera's/Cadillac Eldorados ARE there roaming around Las Vegas at a given moment in time? That vehicle just has OceanSpray written all over it, BEGGING to be apprehended...

But it's not like the whole LVPD is looking for it. Gaming and perceived casino safety are obviously very important in Las Vegas, but at the end of the day we are talking about a non-violent robbery. There are ~300k of those in the US per year.

I don't think they treat a casino cage like a bank counter, so there's no automatic FBI involvement?

True. That car was lucky to not get spotted by police. If it's from LV, it'll certainly eventually get pulled over.

Bottom line is the police DGAF if a casino gets robbed and loses a measly 5figures as long as no one is hurt. And the security aren't trying to do that much work for $30k a year. If they risk their life trying to catch someone, it's not like they're going to get a bonus. They could do all of that and still get written up for coming in late the next day.

WAT? She had a gun. That's assault with a deadly weapon. That isn't non-violent.

Why would it? No Federal involvement. Same with a bank unless it's Federally chartered.
