Hey all.

I have dreamed about going to Vegas to play poker for years. I finally have a chance to visit next year, but I am not sure if I can convince any friends to come with me.

What do you think about visiting solo? Will I have as much fun? I always pictured it as a place I should visit with some guys.

I will have about a week. Obviously I want to play a lot of poker (at lower stakes - I'm not very good ). If I do go solo, any recommendations on where to stay to be near games that are good for me?

Really appreciate any advice!

I’ve always enjoyed going solo because then you’re not on any schedule but your own. Flamingo is great location & price wise.

I liked it better solo then with friends. I just got back yesterday from a solo trip. I stayed at the flamingo my first time and absolutely loved it due to the price and location. Linq room was better and very similar price wise.

Bellagio is extremely close to the flamingo and that is where I played the most. If the games look bad just hop on the tram to aria

My advice would be to just do it. I absolutely loved it both times I did. Met a lot of nice people

There’s a big long thread about solo visits around here somewhere

Mostly I think it depends on you OP. I’m an introvert and can be perfectly happy going alone and having lots of time to myself between poker sessions. And there are extroverts who go alone and meet enough people and otherwise get the engagement they need. But I imagine there are some of both types who find it uncomfortable without people they know also there.

OP, if you were going to go party, yeah, you'd want a friend with you, but if you're going to go play a lot of poker, you don't need a friend to do that. You can be social at the tables and have a good time. If you need to talk about how it's going during stay and want feedback, we'll be here. Lol

Thank you. I will check out Flamingo.

Does it need booking far in advance?

Yeah I am an extrovert, so I thrive in the company of others. It's that initil meeting people that worries me a bit though. I guess the free booze probably helps loosen tongues?

Thanks! I'm definitely more interested in poker, but I do like a drink and a party too. I'm not the type to go in a bar alone though really, so I'm hoping I can meet people.

1/2 at the Venetian

1/3 at the Wynn bellagio and Aria which is where I played

I recommend getting the bravo poker app as you can see what games are going on where and even call ahead to get your name on the list so it will most likely decrease your wait time.

There are quite a bit of options available if u want to play bigger games as well. Next step up would prob be bellagio 2/5 at this is capped at 500 but Wynn 1/3 is capped at 500 as well

I think being solo will be an advantage if you plan to play poker mainly. Plus you will meet a lot people at the tables.

I see what you mean. I'll only be on my own schedule.

I've done several solo trips. Vegas is probably the best place ever to vacation solo.

Years ago we didn't have poker near where I live so I'd go and essentially park myself in the poker room for days. Now we have 2 rooms < 1 hour from home so my last trip I decided to play less and enjoy Vegas more. Stayed at a nice property (Aria), ate well (dining solo at the bar is excellent), did a hike at Red Rock and walked the strip a lot collecting chips from all the rooms where I played. I had intended to get to the Pinball Hall of Fame and go see Absinthe but didn't get those in.

Solo trips to Vegas are fun and can take on a lot of different looks depending on what you like and want to do.

My one caution is that I personally don't like being in Vegas for more than about 4 days. If you're coming from far away where it makes more sense to do a long stay I might add a side trip to like Grand Canyon if you like nature or LA if you like ... well there's not really anything I like about LA but maybe do Hollywood and that stuff.

Concur that solo is about the best way to do Las Vegas when going primarily to play poker. It sucks being tied to other people who want to do things that might get in the way of remaining in a good game or who don't want to go and do things on their own while you sit and play.

As to places to stay, I've done well with Vdara...puts you between Bellagio and Aria and leaves other properties within reasonable walking distance. The bonus to Vdara if you are there more than a few days is being able to do your own laundry in the room or fix your own meals given that the rooms have the washer/dryer and kitchen. Call housekeeping to get the dishware and cooking necessities (you still have to go to the store to stick the fridge though LOL).

Stay at the 4 Queens downtown.

No resort fee AFAIK.

Play at the Golden Nugget, just walk across the street.

Low cost, "do what you want" road trip.

I prefer solo. If you are going to be 3 weeks you might want to look at Airbnb and maybe a rent car.
