OK, salted caramel. Never would have occurred to me to call that caramel. Truth be told, I thought it was sausage gravy. Carry on!

Re: Snap Calls and Craps Rolls - TR 11th - 18th Feb 2019

Allow me to add some more colour to Tom’s introductions. Kudos to Tom for the subtlest of needles, using a picture of me quite literally making my exit from said final table.

Tom acknowledges that he doesn’t know one of the party - Jon - but I can vouch for Jon being a solid addition to the group. I met him a couple of years ago when Dan, Jon, and I went to the Irish Poker Open: more specifically, I was introduced to him whilst he was heads-up in a PLO side event shortly before he took it down. Some man.

The next day we found a pool table in the hotel and played a few frames. I’ve always fancied myself as +EV in any game of pool against a random opponent, so when a random Irish fella strolled by looking pretty scruffy and unassuming and asked if he could play the winner of our game in progress, I sensed a good spot.

“Will we have a few quid on it?” I asked, already banking the Sklansky pool bucks.

“Sure,” the man said. “Whatever you want.”

The nonchalance of his response ought to have triggered at least a feint warning inside me, but I was rendered myopic by idiotic bravado, preoccupied, deciding how to size this value-bet.

“Twenty Euro?”

The guy basically just shrugged his acceptance. It was up to me to break, which I did, and even when the villain began to prowl the table and chalk his cue and eye the split of the balls, any concern was still pending penetration of my thick skull. Jon and Dan watched on, like tourists in the Kruger who can foresee the grim fate of an antelope a few steps before the ill-fated beast itself.

Five shots and five clunks of potted balls later, each subsequent clunk more resounding and damning than the last, I started to realise that I had been expertly hustled by this shrewd character. I was given a chance, however: a late visit to the table to try to rectify my regrettable situation. Alas, rattled, I missed a sitter, and the villain finished me off with the very same languid ease that he demonstrated ten minutes earlier when he identified me as a mark at cuesports.

Jon is, I’m told, something of a shark on the pool table himself, who plays to a pretty high standard in his hometown. I have no doubt that his witnessing of my Dublin Drubbing described above is the backdrop for a message I received a few weeks ago.

You simply have to respect the hustle of a man who will, with such passive-aggressive ruthlessness, warm a target up to the idea of losing their money to him. Jon Boy, I look forward to a few games of pool and may the best man win!

I can probably add a bit of colour about your co-pilot, too. Tom and I disagree on a lot of things, and one of these things is, evidently, the important questions to mull over in the build-up to a Vegas trip.

Most of my thoughts have been preoccupied with things like restaurant scheduling and dice strategy: CUT will be a staple, but wouldn’t it be nice to try somewhere like SW, too? Where will we go for Sunday brunch in the absence of the Country Club’s jazz buffet? Where will the hottest dice be found, and should I trial different dice-throwing techniques in a bid to identify the superstitious optimum? Between these thoughts there’s room for the occasional pondering of which massage treatment to arrange at the spa and which morning to arrange it for, or just a general appreciation of how neatly the Champions League football matches will slot into our schedule whilst we’re in town.

For Tom, however…

What a savage nit.

For the record, any requests submitted to me to chop blinds will be returned with a spite-raise of anywhere between 5bb and the absolute lot, depending on the number of Blue Moons consumed prior. Tourists flying 10 hours to chop blinds ought to result in an ESTA blacklist for future trips, in my humble opinion.

Finally, some colour about Dan – a complex character. Dan and I fly out together with BA, and Dan currently plans to take only a cabin bag for his week’s-worth of belongings in order to avoid the fee associated with checking a larger bag into the hold. Consider the man we have here: a man who cheerfully stumped up $10k in cash for the Main Event and punted it off in level 2, but won’t turn the heating on in his flat in January. A complex character indeed.

I hope this post helps to paint a richer picture of the contenders you’ll read more about in February! As an addendum to Tom’s introductions, I’m obliged to break the unfortunate news that Eirik and Craig won’t actually be joining us on this trip any longer, leaving a confirmed squad of 11.

Tom and I are in London at the same time in early February on respective work duties, so it’s possible that we’ll get together for food and central London poker - if so, I’m sure we’ll pull a post together as the final foreword to the TR-proper.

Had lots of experiences of people doing this. Trying to get someone to fold quads in level 1 of a $5k and then asking how far the Excal is to walk to save on those dreaded X's.

"I didn't fly 10 hours to fold" used to be a well-trotted catchphrase back in the day when nitty was very profitable. It was all you had to say once in a while to get looked up ultra light.

Subbed, gl

Re: Snap Calls and Craps Rolls - TR 11th - 18th Feb 2019

Im sure everybody says this about every Vegas trip, but its really incredible how quickly this has crept up! Tom, Dan and I have talked a lot about it in our WhatsApp group but Im not quite sure how only 3 months away! has become just 3 days away.

Im typing this out as the last Friday of work before the trip winds down; my work to-do list is conquered (or at least wounded to the point of imminent defeat), 4 of the guys are already on their way to the US, and before I know it Ill be on a train to Gatwick Airport on Sunday evening.

An amusing precursor and perfect amuse-bouche for the trip cropped up this morning. Tom managed to find a video on Youtube named 35 minute craps roll in Vegas where someone has filmed a guys 30 minute roll at the Linq. As it happens, in 2017, I stayed at the Linq and documented the trip here (https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/1...amp-la-1633909).

Lo and behold, across the table in this random video is my 2017 self!

Ive been drip-feeding myself 5-minute chunks of this video all day at work and feeling genuine anticipation every time the dice bounce around and settle on the table as I watch it back!

Lets hope for plenty of this next week

Ive been moving house over the last week and with a busy time at work its incredibly satisfying to be able to come home tonight and relax with nothing to do but enjoy the evening and look forward to Vegas on Monday!

The railway used to run through where the offices are now built and as I understand it, that tower is a relic of then! I think someone told me that it was part of where they used to winch up train carriages for repair... but it's at least a bit possible that I've totally imagined that.

Re: Snap Calls and Craps Rolls - TR 11th - 18th Feb 2019

Hey TwoPlusTwo from grey and rainy London!

As I said in a previous post I'm in London the week before Vegas for a work conference. I was meant to be flying on Sunday from Tbilisi to London but due to some interesting developments at work I had to delay the trip a few days and finally arrived in the motherland on Wednesday (6th) and headed straight to the conference which was wasn't ideal after the red eye flight. Anyway, despite the weather it's great to be back in England!

The conference I'm attending is called ICE and is basically the biggest online and landbase gambling conference of the year. Anyone who is anyone in the world of gaming and gambling makes the yearly trip to London in early February for a few days to attend. For me it's mainly about meeting current and potentially new Casino game vendors for the online Casino I work for. It's also great chance to meet and catch up with old friends and colleagues from my days working in Malta and Gibraltar. There are thousands of people who attend but I always find it amazing how many people I know and bump into while walking around. Despite it being work it does kind of remind me of Vegas with the sound of slot machines, chips clicking, dancers and general gambling related chat.

(Meeting Eddie Hall, the 2017 Worlds Strongest Man)

I was walking around the conference and had to double look when I noticed literally one of my poker heroes walking right next to me...

Seemed like a super nice guy as well, thank you Mr Antonius!

Walking around on the last day of ICE I bump into Chris and Dan sat having a coffee. Chris, Dan, Duncan and Tom are all flying out to LA next morning so the excitement was already high for them! Me and Chris agree to meet later that evening for a meal before the flight. I'll give you 1 guess where we picked for dinner with a week of 24/7 Casinos coming up... Obviously the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square "Got to have a warm up" as Chris rightly said. Tom and Duncan said they would join for dinner also. Dan wisely decided that as he missed Valentines Day last year and is spending this Valentines Day in Vegas with the lads that it was probably a GTO move to spend his last night before flying out with the GF rather than in another Casino.

I meet with Chris and we have a few drinks and a catch up in the Hippodrome bar while we were waiting for Duncs and Tom to arrive. Really great catching up with Chris and the hour or so we had to kill went by quickly. Duncs and Tom arrived and amazingly almost exactly at the same time they arrived the almost previously empty bar filled up with about 200+ women. The bar ratio was literally 50 females to 1 male. We all look at each other wondering what was going on, maybe Duncan's magic Scottish accent had gone next level or maybe we'd simply ended up in the best bar in the world. Then Duncan noticed a poster for Magic Mike (basically a male stripper show) on the wall in the bar, the Magic Mike show in the Casino had clearly just finished haha. While we were in the bar finishing our drinks off Duncan and Tom tell us that earlier in the day they had searched "Vegas Craps Heater" on Youtube, had clicked on the first video in the results (which had over 150,000 views) and were watching the video to get abit more excited for the week ahead. After about 20 minutes of watching the video they notice a guy on the other side of the Craps table in the video which looked a lot like your co-host Joey but they weren't 100% sure it was actually him. They load the video up and within 2 seconds after viewing the first awkward missed hi-five I know it's the Craps degen himself, Joey CHO! I mean what are the chances of that... Joey goes to Vegas once every two years or so and out of all the craps tables in Vegas the Youtube poster decides to film the table which Joey is playing on AND that happens to be the video which Duncan and Tom decide to click on and open up when they're bored and wanting some Vegas hype. Odds have to be billions to one. We took it as a good sign from the Craps gods though.

(Surely the dealer is trolling wearing that 7 jersey as well? lols)

We sat down in the Hippodrome restaurant, all ordered steak with a bunch of sides. Food was really good, personally I think Hippodrome steak is one of the best in London.

(Sorry I've not got into the TR full grind yet and I didn't remember to take a picture until all the food was gone)

After dinner we were all itching to have a bit of a Vegas warm up and to oil the raising arms at the poker table. London card rooms have a annoying rule where they don't allow three or more friends to play on the same table to avoid collusion. I guess for some players it would make sense but if anything we all try and play harder against each other, there is nothing more I like than showing a bluff to a friend at the table. As we were walking to the poker room me and Chris were discussing the best strategy so we can all sit at the same table to have some fun together and maybe splitting up our entrance would be a good idea etc. Not hearing our conversation or really knowing the collusion rule Tom walks straight up to the Poker desks and says "We're four friends, can we sit on the same table please?" the Poker manager looks up "Sorry sir, only two friends per table" That was the Poker plan GG then . Tbf there was a fairly big waiting list so we most likely couldn't of played anyway. So after the Poker was ruled out we head down the bottom area of the Hippodrome where the Craps table is. I believe there are only two Casinos in London with a craps table so it's a rare treat. We all buy in with approx 100 each and actually get off to a not bad start when the old guy on the other side of the table has quite a good run. But it doesn't take long before the Craps run bad I've experienced on my last 5 Vegas trips returns though. A young guy busts out pretty quickly, it's Chris's turn next and after a few rolls he also busts. I was really not feeling it so I tried to pass my roll onto Duncan who said he wouldn't allow it and that I had to roll. I last three rolls and 66% of them were 7s lol (7.. 6...7.. GG). Duncan is next and gives us a little hope as we build our stacks up a little but unfortunately busts after 8 or so rolls. Tom is next and doesn't do much better than I did. Next up is the old guy who had a good run when we first joined the table, we decide he looks lucky so lump on and our "lucky" old guy doesn't last more than 5 rolls as well and we call it a night. Poor Vegas warm up but as Joey messaged me the next day "It's impossible to win at Craps in the UK". If only I had known this wisdom before setting 100 on fire!

Chris, Tom and Duncan had to get up early the next morning for their flight to LA so they decided to head back to get some sleep. I said goodbye knowing that I'd be seeing them again only in a few days in Sin City! I still wasn't that tired and with a bad taste in my mouth from the Dice decided to head to the Empire Casino down the road to play some poker. Buy in for the standard 200 and here we go...

Tbh the table was fairly WOAT. Most people playing tight and no one really splashing around. Think I played bad with 56s from the BTN vs BB's TT. The Empire have a promotion at the moment that if you win a hand with 56s then you have the rest of the night rake free so I played it a little spazzy. After that and a few other hands I was down about 120. Fairly late on into the session a fish in the HJ limps, I pick up QQ from the CO and raise to 15 and just the fish calls. Flop comes AKT and it goes check check. Turn is 9 and it goes check check again. The river comes A and the HJ fairly quickly just goes all in for 60 total. I thought about it for a little while and in the end decided to make the call only really beating a total bluff... HJ turbo mucks his hand as soon as my chips hit the felt and I don't even have to show my QQ to collect the pot. I end the session up a massive 19. Head back to the hotel around 4am and the next morning I wake to see this....

Chris, Dan, Tom and Duncan all on there way to LA, GL guys! Monday we're all meeting in Vegas, literally can't wait! Next post most likely from Gatwick hotel the night before the rest of the group fly out. See you then .

Yeah, The Beluga (Harrison) also said something similar in our Whatsapp chat. Would of been a millionaire apparently

From Joey's TR it seems like this was the post from Joey's POV. Still a solid $350 win.

Re: Snap Calls and Craps Rolls - TR 11th - 18th Feb 2019

Hey TwoPlusTwo from Gatwick airport hotel!

Well after 18 months of dreaming of this moment we're finally here, the night before flying out to Vegas! Realllly can't wait.

Tbf I've had a really good few days in London leading up to this moment. My Mum took the train down to London to take me out for a early Birthday lunch at the Sky Garden which was really cool and it was good to see her.

I met Pete, Dan and a girl I know called Kate yesterday for some rebound shuffleboard action and then later we all met up with Lewis and went for a Nandos.

Annnd today I decided to kill some time in the Empire Casino in Leicester Square. Kind of regret this decision though as the poker didn't go very well...

I bought in with the standard 200 and couldn't really get much going. I was hovering around a 100 stack for quite a while and decided to top up to 200 again. Lost a few posts and a guy in EP raises to 10, MP and CO call and I look down at JJ in the BB. 3bet to 45. The EP player ships over the top. The other two players fold out. Pretty sure what I'm up against here but I only have 100 behind and I thought there is a chance he has AK or maybe thought I was making a move against the dead money and has like TT etc.I make the call and he shows me QQ. Window card on the flop is a Q and it's GG, 300 down. I reload for another 200 and literally 2 hands later a guy in MP makes it 11, HJ calls, we wake up with QQ on the BTN and 3bet to 36 and both players call. The flop comes 885 . It's checked to me and I cbet 55, MP calls and now the HJ raises to 125. Not loving it but don't think he has a huge amount of 8s in his range and if he does or has 55 then I guess it's UL GG. I ship all in for around 165 total. The MP folds, it's about 40 more for the HJ to call so when he takes approx 40 seconds to call I actually think I might be in ok shape. He eventually puts in the money into the middle and basically turns over the worse hand I could be up against... Q8 .... I'm down to one out and a one outer comes on the turn... unfortunately the wrong one outer as it's the 8 and I'm drawing stone dead going into the river. Not a huge amount I could of done in either hand I think. Just not an ideal way to be starting the trip. Hopefully that's the run bad and coolers out of the way now!

Me, Dan and Joey all meet up and go for a pretty amazing burger at Honest Burger (another spot on Joey recommendation). After we're full of burgers and walk past the London fake Vegas...

We catch the Gatwick express to Gatwick airport. Drop another $30 on the train to Joe and Dan playing a bunch of different games like rotten pineapple, open face Chinese, heatwave, high card etc but it didn't seem to matter what we played, I wasn't winning We arrive at the hotel at Gatwick and I check into my flight and notice when I try and check in that that when I had booked the flights I had clearly booked a Economy Lite ticket which didn't include checkin luggage.. Another 90 down the drain to add that onto the flight . My bank balance is really not going to be loving me after today...Pieces!

Anyway, that's enough moaning... Tomorrow I'm flying out to my favorite city with some of my favorite people! Time to have a shower, put Rounders on and dream of the week to come. Next post will be from Sin City so that only leaves me one thing to do which is to post the traditional Shoe & Roll pictures (This was the outcome when I asked everyone to send me their photos)

Wish us GL (I think we need it! )
