Hey TwoPlusTwo,

So as I said in my previous post, I woke up after Five50 Pizza at 5am on my last day of Vegas. I headed straight down to the Poker room, very eager to get on the grind and take advantage of the players who were still playing from Saturday night. I'm still stuck for Poker so far this trip so was hoping to have a last minute turn around.

The game was actually pretty good. A couple of players were sat with over $1k and some splashing pots. Quite a lot of table banter as well. On one hand I raise PF and a Asian woman calls me from the blinds. On the flop she tells me "You from England, you good" as she proceeds to check raise my cbet, nice troll lol. The two big stacks got into a massive all in pot with AJ v 66 on 6QJ9J. AJ raised the river bet and then called it off when 66 jammed all in, turned over AJ like it was the mortal nuts as well. Pot was around $2k and the dealer got a healthy $100 tip from the guy with pocket 6s. Planet Hollywood has a promotion at the moment where if you play 20 hours of cash game poker over the week you then qualify for free seat into the 10am Sunday $135 $7.5k guaranteed tourney. So when it was time for the tourney start I cashed out of my cash session, basically spent the 4 hour session hovering -/+ $20 starting stack and cashed out for $23 profit. I also picked up a signed chip, if anyone knows who signed it and if it's worth any value to sell and get back my losses for this week then please let me know

I move over to my tourney table and the tourney grind begins.

The level of play here was probably on par with the Golden Nugget tourney. There was one particular player on my table who was calling every bet it seemed. He raised to the BTN when it was folded to him, I 3bet from the SB with AQ and he calls. The flop comes Q J 9, I bet and he calls. Turn is 8, I check and he checks back and the river brings K (literally getting worse and worse). I check, he bets fairly large and I make the fold and he turns over 7 2, WP WP. The same player called another players all in with 78o and got there as well. So after 2 hours when the blinds with 500/1k and my stack was 12.4k it was a snaparoo shove when the fish in question makes it 2k from the CO. He calls my shove pretty quickly with AQo though and the Ace on the flop gives pretty much no sweat. Tourney dream is over but was only a freeroll for me.

Planet Hollywood also has a promotion running that if you play 3 hours of Poker between 5am - 2pm then you receive a free buffet ticket. I had already earned two of these during the week so gave one to Martin and we hit up the buffet. Buffet was thin value and as we had dinner plans for later I didn't go too crazy (only three plates)

Went for a quick shop in the mall next to PH after the buffet and bought some new clothes as all the ones I brought with me are too tight now after all this food I also bought a new cap which I deemed the lucky cap. We head back to PH and jump in a 1/2 game.

Lucky cap didn't live up to its name and had lost its novelty after 10 minutes and spent the rest of the time sat on my lap. Not another great session here. A guy raised in EP and there was a caller in MP. I wake up with AQ on the BTN and decide to 3bet, the EP player calls and the MP player folds. Flop comes Qd xd xd... I cbet and the EP player jams all in for not a huge amount more, I make the call only to be shown AA to be drawing almost dead. I had a few other tilting hands and as is course of the trip for me just couldn't get anything really going. Ended the session minus $199. Headed back to the room for a little chill, I don't want to give too many spoilers away as Joey will take care of this part in his post but Jon was running deep in the Aria $200 tourney and Joey was on his "best craps session ever" heater so the Whatsapp updates from both of them were pretty entertaining. At least some of us are taking advantage of that last day heat!

We had hoped to go for a group dinner at Lotus of Siam but after calling them up we were informed that they were fully booked so bit later in the night we all meet up for what most likely is the last Earl of the trip. I hop back into the PH 1/2 game while the others grind some Casino table games. Session wasn't great and I was already down $50 when drunk Joey and Jon both came and sat down on my direct left, bumhunting nits! Fairly soon after they sit down I have the following hand though.. UTG open shoves for $51, fishy player next to act makes the call of $51 and the player behind him also makes the call of $51. Annnnd I look down at AA, helllo. Ship all in for $250 total. Fish folds and the other player calls all in for around $100 effective. Board runs out 439KQ, don't love turn or river but we flip up our hand and we're good! Game was fun and Jon and Joey seemed to be splashing around more than normal due to their scores during the day. I got a $10 button straddle in to try and punish them as they would be forced to act first from the blinds, didn't really work out as Joey raises from the SB, gets one caller and takes it down on the flop. We all played for a few hours before they called it a night and I followed back to my room shortly after, ending the session plus $55. Last night in Vegas is complete 24+ hour flight and the office becoming more of a reality right now. Hopefully get one more session in tomorrow morning before checking out at 11am and setting off to the airport at 1pm. Joey will most likely make a post tomorrow about his and Jon's super last day and my next post will be when I'm back in Tbilisi with a full P&L of my trip.

Until then, thanks for reading!

Hi, Enjoying the TR. You mention playing pool is this on American pool tables? Where do you go? Is there any good pool halls where i can hustle/ or even play a small tourney when out there?

I have been twice before and go out in March, first few days just me and my mate playing poker/ gambling/ drinking, after a few days i jump onto a cousins stag do.... TR 50/50 at the mo as i think it might be a bit much hard work. so if we can put some pool in that would be great, preferably if there are English pool tables, i am reasonable standard but generally just want to go play with my mate.

Good luck guys

The morning after the CUT and Linq night, Dan and I went to the Wynn to meet Jon for breakfast and play some 1/3.

We went to Urth Cafe and Dan was a big fan, declaring it possibly the best breakfast he’s had! His cooked breakfast did look great, and Urth Cafe comes highly recommended from us.

“Price available on request”... what’s your line?

The Wynn 1/3 went badly for me: I got KK early on facing an early position raise. I 3bet, call, and I decided to lead 40 on the A high flop. Villain makes it 80 and I quickly fold. He shows QQ Snap Calls and Craps Rolls - TR 11th - 18th Feb 2019

I think this hand put me on low level tilt because I played a bit spewy after this, generally struggling to win pots. I was in for 600 when I table changed to Dan and Jon’s table after a massage, due to reports of a whale sighting.

Nothing of note really happened for me here though, but we did have some good restaurant chat with a local and got some recommendations. We decided to try to get into Lotus of Siam that night, and headed off to Griff’s Pool Hall after the whale racked up. I was in for 800 and out for around 400: poor morning after a poor night before for P&L (or rather, the L&L as Dan called it).

Pool was fun, we got 2 tables between 5 of us and set up a winner stays on mechanic on both tables. Griff’s is well worth a trip (5 mins off strip) if you want to play some pool. We had a few beers and tried to get into Lotus but they were completely full so instead we sat down at Five50 and got some pizzas in.

It was great to be somewhere with some proper craft beers on tap and I really enjoyed a couple whose names I now forget but were delicious, hazy, juicy IPAs. We were all struggling with tiredness at this point: we’d hit things pretty hard all week so far and despite it being Saturday night in Vegas we couldn’t muster any enthusiasm between us for staying out. The best I could do was suggest we have a beer at the bar of Five50 and watch the Golden Knights game which we did, and Dan and Jon soon hit the hay. Pete and I stayed for one more but when it was taking all my energy reserves to keep my eyes open, it was time to go to bed as well.

Apparently Pete wasn’t quite ready for bed though - we parted at the Bellagio and he went on his way up towards the Wynn where he was now staying with Jon - and hopped from craps table to craps table on his way, arriving at 4am steaming drunk with a couple of hundred profit in his pocket!

Our trip was getting on now, and with only 1 full day left we were going to need to find some heat from somewhere to turn that L&L around...

Griff’s is your place! There was a tournament in when we were there and seems like they’re a regular thing. It’s all American tables though from what I could see.

I feel the same. Really just didn't happen for some of us on this trip. Joey will also make one final post reporting on his last 36 hours in Vegas and there will be some last minute heaters in that thankfully!

So on my final morning of Vegas I woke up again very early after only a few hours of sleep. Me and Martin needed to check out of the hotel at 11am and then catch a taxi to the airport around 1pm. I had a horrible day of flying ahead of me. First flying from Vegas to London Gatwick which is a 10 hour flight, then a 3 hour wait at Gatwick airport, followed by a 4 hour flight to Kiev, Ukraine, another 3 hour wait there and then a final 3 hour flight from Kiev to Tbilisi, taxi home and then bed around 2am Tbilisi time. Total killer and something I hate past Tom for doing to me.

So anyway, it was around 7am now so I had about 6 hours left of Vegas to try and get out of the Poker hole. I went downstairs, did some very quick gift shopping for people in the office, grabbed my last Earl of the trip and sat down at the PH 1/2 game for hopefully a final spin up. We were 5 handed when I sat down and it was the only table running. I'm not joking when I say this was by far the best table I had sat at on all trip and possibly the best 1/2 game I'd played in in the last 3 or 4 years. I thought to myself that if there was any game to get me out of the hole then the Poker Gods had listened to my prayers and given it to me. The game was being fed by two drunk guys both sat with around $1k when I sat down. One of the guys didn't seem to know where he was but just didn't have a fold button in between drinking and falling asleep. The other guy was being loud and very aggressive in his play, blind raising, blind flop betting, open raising to $40 from $2 PF, button straddling etc. Great great great game, the type of game you could easily have a $50/hr win rate in if you can put up with how painfully slow the table was playing.

Hole climbing!

There was one funny moment when a good "reg" sits down at the table and plays for a little while before requesting a seat change to the aggro drunks direct left so he could have position on him. The drunk guy is still sharp enough to know what's going on and while drinking his 5th beer while I've been there says "you want position on me huh? I don't like that". He punishes the reg by straddling to $20 every hand from then onwards. For those who don't know PH have a rule where you can straddle to $20 from any position (apart from UTG and BTN). Whoever does the $20 straddle changes the order of play on the table though and the person to the left of the $20 straddler is basically UTG and first to act PF. So by doing this the drunk guy punishes the reg and makes him UTG every single hand lol. The reg doesn't last many hands like this and soon requests a seat change back to his original seat claiming "This seat doesn't seem lucky". We had been playing for a few hours now and it was clear that sleepy drunk wouldn't be holding onto his chips for much longer and I was actually the one to bust him, all in with KT vs 93 on Kxx. Unfortunately for me this was his last $12 I won as he'd lost most of his stack to the aggro drunk guy a few hands previous. He left after that but aggro drunk guy kept the game going and action packed. The 10am tourney started and about half the table decided to leave and join the tourney. Really didn't get this tbh, the best 1/2 game in Vegas all week and people are leaving it to enter a donkament where the most you can win is around $800, mental imo.

Dan and Joey had wanted me to head to the Wynn for breakfast but I'd already had Earl, it was a bit out of the way and this game was so good I agreed with them that they come over to PH to say bye. We said our goodbyes and they headed over the Wynn. I use this opportunity to do the fastest suitcase packing and checkout of a room ever in Vegas history and jump back in the 1/2 game with aggro drunk for a final 1.5 hours before our taxi. On previous trips Martin always seems to run like fire after checking out of the hotel and this trip was no different. He pumps $300 into the "Push the button" electronic caps and after about 1.5 hours of cashes out for $1.6k in total.

Very good trip for Martin. Up in Poker and electronic craps and coming back with more money than he took which is always a great feeling. Unfortunately for me, despite being in the best 1/2 game in years I continued to run not great and just couldn't get anything going. 1pm rolled by and I had to leave to catch my flight, about 5 hours of play and I managed to end minus $7 for my troubles. Pretty frustrating how Poker has gone for me this trip and always a bit of a confidence dasher when it doesn't go so well. But I played fairly ok and I'm thinking about the game at a higher level than I have ever done before. The cards just weren't in my favour though and although I don't think I ran super bad I just couldn't get anything going this trip. This is my 8th Vegas trip and first one I won't be coming back with a profit playing poker, I guess I knew this day would have to come one time!

My Profit & Loss

Poker Hours Played: 52 hours
Poker P&L: -$395
Poker Comps: +$43
Table Games P&L: +$120
Total Gambling P&L: -$232

Not the end of the world, we'll take it! Me and Martin catch the taxi to the airport and get onto the flight with no issues.

Me and Martin have learnt a hack to the flight booking system which is basically if I book the window seat of a flight and on the same row he books the aisle seat then it's very unlikely someone will freely book the middle seat. It's a gamble because we might have a random person sat in the middle of us but at least for the last few trips it has worked out perfectly and we have just got a free middle seat between us. We have a small sweat as people walk down the plane towards our row but the plane doors close and we still have the middle seat free, success!

We push off from the gate on time, starting to run good I thought and start heading towards the runway. But then the plane suddenly stops and the captains voice comes on over the loud speaker "I'm sorry to inform you but we were doing our routine pre-takeoff checks and have identified something wrong with the fuel tank and we'll have to go back to the gate while they have a look at it". We head back to the gate and sit there for about a hour before the next update from the captain "Again, very sorry to inform you but the tests we did have failed and we'll need to find a replacement part, if a replacement part can't be found then unfortunately this flight will need to be terminated, the next update will be in around 90 minutes". I had a 3.5 hour layover in Gatwick airport to catch my connecting flights to Tbilisi which at this point I knew were game overed. We wait for the next update sat on the plane, sweating if we'll be heading back to the strip or not. It was quite funny because Martin was saying "My first winning Vegas trip and we'll be going back to the strip so I can lose!" Luckily the captains next update was that they had a spare part at Vegas airport and the engineers would be replacing it and if all goes ok then we'll be on our way. It took a further 2 hours to fix the part and we finally took off over 4 hours later than we had planned. It was meant to be a 10 hour flight but before we even took off we'd already been sat on the plane for over 5 hours. It was night now and I got a beautiful last view of the strip as we took off though. Apart from the delay in taking off the flight was very smooth and I must say all the staff were amazing about the delay and very helpful. The new estimated arrival time in London was 12:45 and my flight to Kiev was at 12:20 so I knew that was GG. I use the airplane wifi and sort out new flights with Turkish airways which take off at 16:45, landing in Tbilisi around 5 hours later than I originally planned but could have been much worse. We land in London at 12:45 and we're informed by the staff as we're leaving the plane that we're most likely owed compensation and given a letter:

I looked into it while we were waiting for our bags and basically it's EU law that if any long haul flight is delayed more than 4 hours then the airline must pay you €600. Snap applied for that. And as flying is always a gamble I'm adding that to my gambling P&L, we're coming back a winner boys!! But in all seriousness, there are some cases where the airline doesn't have to pay like due to weather etc so not 100% I'll get paid yet but would be nice as the flights only cost about €400 for the return anyway.

I wait at Gatwick the four or so hours and board my newly booked flight with Turkish Airlines to Istanbul. Had managed to blag free extra leg room seats and things seemed to be running better, or so I thought.

I'm sat there on the flight with my headphones and I notice a lot of people infront of me turning around and looking at something at the back of the plane. A little concerned I take my headphones off and hear loud yelling and screaming from a man. Turn around and see a man with a beard on the back row of the plane, throwing his arms everywhere and screaming like crazy. Really I thought, REALLY?? He was pinned down by a few guys and this is happening for around 30 minutes, passengers are rightly ****ting a brick and the air-hostesses are screaming "Everyone relax!" and telling people off for recording on their phones. The police enter the plane and drag this guy off in handcuffs while he's screaming "Allah help me!". I only had a 2.5 hour connection in Istanbul and at this point the flight had already been delayed a hour. We're then informed that the plane needed to have a security check and everyone needed to get their hand luggage out and sat on their laps which we all did. Security check done and we were on our way around 2 hours late, FML! Luckily no mid-air explosion and we managed to catch up some time in the air and when we landed I still had a hour to get to my gate to Tbilisi and made it in good time. No real issues on my Istanbul to Tbilisi flight apart from being given the middle seat despite requesting and being given what I thought was a window seat, somehow managed to get sat with what I assume was the Georgian wrestling team as well. We land in Tbilisi around 6am and I get my bags. I had set a stopwatch as I left Planet Hollywood just to see how long the trip would take.

Almost 29 hours of planes and airports! To say I was dead is a little bit of an understatement. I order a Taxify (like a Uber) to take me from the airport to my home. When you order a Taxi on Taxify you look at the first few letters or numbers of the Taxi's number plate to see if it is the right taxi picking you up. I have been scammed in Georgia before with random guys claiming to be my Taxify when they weren't. Anyway, I look down at the first two letters of my Taxify's number plate:

Just about sums everything up I thought! GG, Good Game for my trip and for my last post on this Trip Report. This trip had been something I'd been looking forward too for well over a year and it has finally come to a end. As always, it has been a real pleasure writing this up and hope you have enjoyed as much as I have enjoyed writing. Thanks for all the nice comments and Birthday wishes, it really has been a lot of fun and despite not having a profitable trip this time by far my favourite Vegas trip. Not sure yet when I'll be back to Sin City, Vegas is always a strange one, I always leave thinking I won't be back for a while and then after a few months back in the office the city claws me back and thoughts of the ****ing Mirage enter my brain again.

Until then though, may your cards be live and your pots be monsters. Thanks!

I’m interested in the difference between a city like London or Vegas vs Tbilisi. Kind of blows my mind that you’re a days drive away from Iraq/Iran. Do you feel any geopolitical pressure from the different situations in your area? Do you have a plan if **** hits the fan?

Sunday morning. Sunday Funday. The final day in Vegas, and things haven’t gone how I’d planned: there’s about $400 in my wallet from the initial $2600 and that just will not do.

Dan I woke up and debated the plan for the day, which ends up with a notion of Eggslut for breakfast followed by the Aria $240 11am daily: the trusty final stop of many a punter’s attempt to tripsave, I’m sure. Dan went ahead to meet Jon, and I hung around in the room to write up a post and take a shower.

Upon arriving at Eggslut I eyed up the menu and noted that the queue was acceptable to hang around for a short while and try it out.

And then I went to join said queue…

Er, next time then I guess! I headed onwards to the Aria and met Dan and Jon. We agreed we’d late reg the 11am (it was already 11:30), swap 5%s all round, and Dan and I went to grab a sandwich from the Aria Patisserie prior to the grind.

For Dan and I, it was generally a struggle. I never really got into any rhythm and found the players to be surprisingly stubborn with a tendency to play back and a frustrating refusal to just lie down and let me ship this thing to get out of the hole. Dan hit the showers when he shoved about 15bb over an open with KJhh. A German chap re-shoved with the AT and won. A level or two later I’d managed to find a full double with KK when I ripped in about 18bb over an open and got a quick call from the 66, but after that I found my opens being raised, whiffing flops, and generally back to a 10bb stack pretty quickly. I can’t quite remember how I busted but that’s about as interesting as it was.

So, the tournament takedown tripsaver was DOA: a minor setback. Jon Boy was still going strong though with plenty of chips.

When we were at Five50 the night before I’d noticed a long list for the single 10/20 game and assumed there to be some kind of large aquatic mammal perpetuating things.

This game was still running on table 12 and it transpired that an Asian chap looking slightly worse for wear was the game’s benefactor. A couple of grinder characters were sat with $15-$18k in front of them and the list remained well populated as the whale ordered more money from the casino having just been stacked by AA on an A high flop.

Dan had just returned from the front desk.

“What are you on?” I asked.

“Everything from 1/3 to 5/10,” Dan grinned. I smiled,

“You might as well get on this list as well then,” indicating table 12 in front of us. Old Daniel Swongs did draw the line there at least. He ended up in a 2/5 hold’em game, and I wasn’t quite feeling playing any cash games just yet. I also didn’t even have enough dollars in my wallet for a buyin, so would need to change some of the emergency £500 I stuffed in my pocket when I left the room.

I had a few orphan twenties knocking around in my wallet and decided I’d attempt a slots grind, with the overarching goal of hitting the $12m Megabucks jackpot. A solid plan. I flitted around between anything and everything, generally managing to cash out of each slot for no loss once I was (quickly) bored of each one. I was keeping a close eye on the craps tables too, in case of imminent heat. Megabucks treated me kindly with its $3 spins, an early win taking my $20 investment up to $95. I thought about taking that and running…and five minutes later I cashed out $30. I managed a bonus round on a $5 spin Temple Of Treasure slot which got me a bit excited: bonus round on a $5-a-spin bandit? Could be a trip-saver right there! Alas, it sent me on my way with $45.

Bored of the slots grind, I headed to the Cosmopolitan to 1) check out the craps tables for imminent heat and 2) change up my £500 into dollars for one last assault at craps once I’d found a table I liked the look of. I changed my pounds (at 1.22 – not too bad a rate given that the casino has you by the short and curlies when you’re a week into a trip and swivel-eyed asking for currency exchange), but didn’t like any of the craps games and headed to the PH to say hello to Tom and check out the games (craps and poker) over there. I picked up a beer on the way, and spent about half an hour roaming the floor and visiting Tom, without any games taking my eye enough to get involved in. I got another beer and went back to the Aria to check on Jon in the tournament and Dan at 2/5.

Pete had piped up in the group Whatsapp and I invited him over to the Aria to drink beer and roam with me, and we got a couple of those absurdly large cans of pisswater American light lager. Jon was in the money now, down to the final 6 and looking in good shape, and better yet Dan and my 5% in him was good for about $12 at this point! Things were looking up!

Dan was hovering around even at 2/5, in for $1k, but having a good time and starting to lubricate the wheels with a couple of Stellas. Pete and I headed over to the craps tables once more, and then… it happened.

Well, not immediately: the first few shooters were no great shakes at all and $200 fairly quickly went the way of the wind. I was a determined, and slightly drunk, man at this point though and was insistent that I’d stick this out until a heater arrived. I’d table-selected carefully and we were surely due another run-up. I dropped another $100 on the table, a young lad across the table picked up the dice, and I instructed Joseph in the dealer crew to full press everything of mine.

When Joseph started sliding me greens as change from pressing my bet, it was clear that things were going rather well. I was on the entire board, buying every number that wasn’t the point, and this guy just kept the dice rolling with particular success at hitting the 5.

‘How are you liking those 5s?” another guy across the table asked me.

“Lots!” I replied, acknowledging the $120 or so I had on 5 at this point and the blacks that had started to infiltrate my rack.

By the time the dice came to an eventual but unfortunately inevitable stop on seven, I had $100 on 4, $300 on 5, around $180 on 6 with 8 as the point and another $100 or so on 9 and 10. There was probably $50 on the hard 8 with a similar amount on the hard-ways for the crew. And I had this in my rack:

Stripy shirt guy is this story's hero.

During the roll, we received news that Jon had taken a chip-chop in the tournament for $3,750! A fantastic result for him as well as Dan and I, and it finally felt like we were getting some justice for the good guys! Dan and Jon came over to witness the tail end of the fantastic roll, and we celebrated with a beer together. In this kind of form, there was no chance that I wasn’t also about to roll like a demon and I also put together a decent stint with the dice. The next guy didn’t last too long, and I took that as the sign to accept this heater from the craps gods and draw stumps.

Things are hazy after this point, but Dan returned to what he said was a great 2/5 game and Jon and I ended up over at the PH to Tom’s immediate left. We got caught in some bizarre and heavy Vegas snow/rain on the way!

Fresh off of our successes it’s fair to say ranges were wide. I managed to stack Jon at one point when I turned a straight and I was generally managing to run up a bit of a stack, to the chagrin of sober Tom who was trying to grind out this game!

At around 3.30am I decided to lock up the win here and cash out around $500, calling it a big winning night.

In the morning, as the events of the night before flooded back and I comprehended the good news that was temporarily forgotten in slumber, I croaked to Dan to ask how he got on in his 2/5 game.

“Good…won 1.4k,” he chirped. “I was up around 2k at one point which meant I was technically out of the hole for the trip. Until I bluffed off 600 late doors.”

Still, a fantastic win for Dan and a highly satisfying last night in Vegas for the three of us. The craps run was incredible and literally what the pre-trip dreams were made of. I think I’m yet to experience anything in gambling with the intensity of adrenaline and excitement that a dice heater can offer.

One more wrap-up post to come from our final day!

Word, looks amazing.

Curious wonder how many people in the capital city of a place like Georgia speak English?

Excellent double hander TR. Some good food tips as well. Have never done CUT before or even heard of Urth. Will try both during WSOP.
Make sure you get Lotus of Siam next trip. Amazing place.
