Good afternoon LV!

Dan and I are checked in, showered, and ready to plant ourselves firmly in any 1/3 and 2/5 mixer that will have us.

Despite laying on the (assumed) British charm to the check-in lady at the Bellagio, she couldn’t outright comp us any upgrades for 7 nights. She did however arrange us a 28th floor strip view for $20 per night with early check-in. After lots of Hollywooding and a brazen low-ball $100-total counter offer of mine that she quickly rejected, we agreed. I’d fancy myself to lose more than $70 whilst waiting for check-in for a normal room, and I’ll certainly make worse calls this week.

Expert wifi troubleshooting tips.

The flight was smooth enough, and I had Rogan and Brian Cox to keep me company and reassure me that, even if I punt every last dollar and pound in my wallet, it doesn’t really matter because we’re all just globules of carbon spewed out from a star 13 billion years ago. The cosmos cares little for financial responsibility.

Between Dan and I we must be over a dozen trips to Vegas now. The two of us and Jon grabbed a cab from the airport and despite our wealth of experience, Dan’s instruction to the lady cab driver only to go the “quickest” way was a LAGy move at best, presumably designed to induce honesty...

Sigh. We have you a chance at honesty, lady, and you’ve mugged us off!

When she dropped us at the B, I made the point to her that she shouldn’t rip off tourists. She did her best puzzled-face and referred to the “quickest way” instruction.

“Yeah, the freeway isn’t the quickest way, is it?” I reminded her. With that, we grabbed our bags and left her to take Jon Boy to Planet Hollywood. $40 the total damage.

Despite the time difference I think we’re all feeling good and looking forward to finding some games this afternoon!

Hey TwoPlusTwo from Vegas!

Me and Martin also just arrived on our Virgin Atlantic flight. Flight was very smooth apart from the small sweat that all we could see was snow until about 10 minutes before landing in Vegas. Thought we'd be having our first white Vegas trip!

Also, did a bit more Poker training on the flight

Customs guy clearly having a bad day and gave me a bit of a grilling, asking how many times I'd been to Vegas, why I lived in Georgia etc but eventually let me pass.

Me and Martin showing Dan, Joe and Jon what a no tunnel taxi journey looks like..$22

Arrived a PH, pulled the $40 in passport and "it's my birthday this week and I'm here with some friends" trick and got promptly upgraded to a bigger room and nicer view. After checking in there was only one place to go though...

Lewis and Pete should be arriving as I type. Chris, Dan, Duncs and Tom are all arriving this evening. Think the plan is to try and get a private game going in PH or similar, not sure if they'll allow this type of thing but let's see

Last night was far more eventful than I anticipated. Didn’t get to bed til 2.30am, or 10.30am UK time meaning I’d been up for around 28 hours at that point. Just woken up now at 8.30am after a solid 6 hours sleep which, given how jet leg and Vegas mess with your sleep, seems a pretty decent result.

Dan, Tom, Martin, Jon and I all put sessions in at the Bellagio as a first port of call upon arrival yesterday but it was largely carnage. I couldn’t really get anything going, finding myself in a lot of annoying spots where nothing quite went right and ended up -350 on session 1. Dan was getting beaten up at 2/5 and Jon too at the 1/3, whilst Martin and Tom managed to escape level or with small profits. We tapped out after a few hours and headed for Secret Pizza:

After that, Lewis and Pete had arrived in town and we met up with them to show them around a bit. Whilst waiting to meet them in the PH, Dan, Jon and I sought vengeance for the poker losses in a true game of skill: Casino War.

We stuck $20 each into a communal bankroll and probably ran about as good as it’s possible to run at War. We kept afloat long enough to get a beer, and cashed out for a morale-boosting $5 & 1 beer profit each, or rather Jon and I did - Dan scoffed at the idea of cashing out a single green and was duly punished after going all-in and seeing his Q destroyed by a dealer A.

We met Lewis and Pete and went on a bit of a casino crawl, first up to O’Sheas for a beer and we played some blackjack fairly successfully, Pete and I getting away even and Lewis making around $100. With it being those guys’ first time in Vegas it was a lot of fun sweating with them and watching Lewis run up a profit.

Next stop was the Venetian for just a wander around and a drink. Lewis’s blackjack profit was put to good utility as he lost the game of Spoof to buy the $100-round...

Then we headed into Harrah’s on our way back down the strip. An empty Free Bet Blackjack table called out to us and we had a great time for an hour or more drinking beers and keeping our heads above water - all 5 of us managed to have a few beers and come away no worse than even to a man: the highlight being Jon’s last hand where he was all-in for $80 or so having been into the game for $200. He managed to find an 11 for a free double and the dealer did her thing and painted it for 21 to bungee Jon Boy out of the hole!

We received the lovely news that Duncan, Chris, Tom, and Dan had arrived in town from San Diego and were slinging dice at PH, so we power-walked down there to join in and arrived just as an Asian girl was working some heat into proceedings. This was a very fun session, with 6 of us crammed around one end of the table and the rest railing and we had plenty to cheer (except for my dismal roll which 7’d out immediately after setting the point and loading the bases). Everyone else’s rolls were much better and we landed some nice hard-ways presses and the crew were doing well out of us; it was generally a great time, everyone managing profits of between 200-500.

I’d expected to crash with exhaustion at any moment but the flowing beers and good times were keeping my body and mind in high spirits and we wandered over to the poker room where Tom had earlier left the craps rail to grab a seat. With 2 empty seats to his right, Dan and I licked our lips and attempted to bum-hunt him only to be told by the floor that we can’t both sit. Neither of us sat, therefore, in protest, and we ended up managing to get the floor to agree to start a whole new table with 9 of us!

The 2-7 game was immediately in-play for $10 per man and resulted in several fun hands, with Chris punting off a stack into my trips early on trying to secure the $80 windfall and more important bragging rights.

A few randoms came and went, trying to get a slice of the action but to no avail, topped off by Dan punishing one such random chap who led into him on the river for about $70. Dan coldly makes it $175 which is enough for the guy to muck his 72o face up, to be shown Dan’s 83o! Bluffing with the best hand... Snap Calls and Craps Rolls - TR 11th - 18th Feb 2019

After that we grabbed an Earl and wrapped things up. Dan had managed to win $400 or so in the game, making some headway into the chunky $1700 loss he’d weathered earlier at 2/5. I conjured up a $200 win which, allied with a $250 or so craps win makes, I think, slightly ahead after day 1’s action! A very fine and welcome result after the poor start. I think we’d all agree that day 1 was a massive hit and I’m very excited that this is just the start - it’s impossible to beat the fun of being in Vegas with some of your favourite company.

Today’s plan is to get breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi and dinner at Hell’s Kitchen, punctuated by the Champions’ League football games at 12. Until then, 2+2!

Hey TwoPlusTwo,

Not a huge amount to add onto Joey’s great post...

The table at the Bellagio yesterday was great. Very splashing and fishy. Unfortunately it was one of those tables you need to pick up some hands to cash in which didn’t happen for me. After Jon, Dan and Joe left for Pizza and a few of the fish at my table busted me and Martin decided to head back to Planet Hollywood to get some hours in there for the evening. I finished the Bellagio session plus $38, always good to lock in a green first session, although a small one.

Back at the Pleasure Pit

Session at PH didn’t go great and despite the table also been quite good I couldn’t really get anything going. One of the reasons I like Poker is that it gives you different tests. This sessions test was mainly on tilt control. This was due to basically looking down at J3o, T5o and Q2o for 99% of the night and the four times I picked up a big hand they were cracked or I had to fold. (KK v AK, KK v 63o, KK v AJs and then folding AA on KQxK where I’m fairly sure I was beaten). At some points of the session I was down over $400 so when I managed to crawl it back to just a $150 loss I decided to play one more orbit and head to sleep. At this point I’d been up over 24 hours and felt a bit like a zombie. As I was waiting for the BTN to come round the other guys came over from the Craps table. I asked the PH Poker manager if we could set up a private table and they were very helpful and sorted it out for us straight away. It kind of felt like it couldn’t end well after being so tired but the Vegas hype and the opportunity to play with a table full of friends got me.

Signs of being awake for over 26 hours starting to show on Joey as well!

We all sat down and the action was great from the start. We had agreed to play the 72 game for $10 a man and I lost $30 pretty quickly as three different people managed to get it through with 72. It felt like I had a huge target over my head in the game though and again wasn't another game to be card dead in. On one hand it’s folded to me on the BTN and I raise with AT, Jon in the SB 3bets and Duncan in the BB cold 4bets. I make the fold. Jon shoves all in. Duncan folds showing the 72 and Jon shows his A5. Certainly not a game I’ll be getting many bluffs through I thought. A few orbits later Tom misses his straddle so raises to $5 blind. I make it $20 with A9 in EP (I think this is a mistake given how loose the game was). Got a few callers including Tom and we saw a flop of K9x, I cbet, Duncs makes the call and now Tom raises fairly big. He had raised blind pre and it kind of just felt like he was on a draw and/or trying to squeeze me and Duncs out. I shove which was basically a call of his raise at this point (about $20 more). Duncs folds and Tom calls. Board runs out bricks and I think there is a chance I am good but he turns over the KJ. I rebuy and fairly early on see a multi-way flop with A6. Flop of Jxx gets checked through. Dan bets the J on the turn. I had only rebought for 100BBs so decide to go with my hand and shove for not much more. Dan makes the call which I’m pretty certain includes a Jack in his hand. The river comes A and I turn my hand over. It takes Dan a good 40 seconds of squinting at the board and my hand before finally slowrolling and turning over the QJ. I decided to call it a night here. Pretty tilting way to end the first day, stuck $400 for my efforts. I guess when you decide to leave for the night and sleep then you really should just do that. Something I always struggle with at poker is allowing the losses to impact my mood and I have to admit I wasn’t in a great mood going back to the room after a fairly frustrating few hours of poker. Was greeted by this view from the room though which made things a little better

I woke up the next day after 5 hours sleep in a much better mood and ready to get grinding again. Had a message from Jon and Duncs that they were already down at PH poker room and decided to join them for a morning session. Basically started where I had left off the night before though. Jon and Duncs were on my direct left so not the easiest blinds to steal but it was folded to me on the BTN and I look down at AJo and make the auto raise. Like clockwork Duncs 3bets me from the SB. Duncan is a good player but I don’t think there is one person that has held over me more than the Duncs has over the years. His 3bet range is super wide here and I decide to play it slow and just call. Flop gin with J42r. Duncan bets and I just call. Turn is the 5 and now Duncan checks. I think I 100% have him crushed here and decide to check back so he might stab at the river. River brings a T and he bets $60. I snap call only to be shown AA. I make some regrettable Hellmuth style bitter comment about how he played it bad and missed value on the turn but this guy literally has the sun shining out of his ass whenever he plays me! The highlight of the session was when a guy in a cap came over and asked if I was Hutchyw117 and when I confirmed I was he informed me that he was MrBaseball and that he’s reading this TR as well as writing his own TR. So cool meeting a real person from 2p2 and after 5 trip reports this is the first time this has happened. Unfortunately MrBaseball came over while I was still steaming from the AJ v AA hand so wasn’t in the highest of spirits, apologies to MrBaseball and I hope to see you again this trip! The other guys from our group came down to meet us and we decided to all get breakfast at Paris. I got some flack in earlier posts about my pancake picture so hopefully this will redeem things:

Pancakes were sweet and made even sweeter by watching Joey losing his first CCR in about 5 years. After breakfast the guys headed to watch football (soccer). Really not a football fan so decided to head back to PH to try and recoup some losses. I also only needed to play another 30 minutes to get my free PH buffet. Unfortunately the "free" buffet temptation loss me some money as the session kept going as terrible as before. I lost with AA v KQ and QQ v 99. Running 0/6 for winning with big pocket pairs this trip which isn’t ideal. Got it all in with AK v short stackers QQ also and lost the flip. I’ve been in Vegas for pretty much 24 hours at this point and 13 of those hours have been sat at a poker table. Currently down $741 which combined with the Ł500 loss at Empire before flying out is really not how I had envisioned this trip would go. Pretty annoying really, feel like I’m the most prepared Poker wise than I have ever been before and currently in the biggest hole I’ve ever been in Vegas. Hoping for things to turn around soon!

Heard Joey is playing PLO at the Aira right now and the waiting list for his table is about 35 regs deep so might head over there in a bit

You can call the search party off 2p2, Pete and Lewis stumbled into PH at around 3am after a night in Omnia club. Holiday Turkey reward goes to me:

After my previous post I headed to the Aria for a bit of a change of scenery. As I'm walking through the Aria I bump into Joey who had already been harpooned by the bumhunting regs at PLO and was on his way for a wonder around. I still made my way over to the Poker room and put my name on the waiting list. Grabbed a slice of Five50 Pizza and railed Dan who was also playing PLO. The waiting list for the 1/3 NLHE game was pretty long and didn't seem to be going down so after waiting around 30 minutes I decided to take my name off the list and head back to PH.

Didn't think I felt that tired but went back to the room anyway to chill for a bit. My head hits the pillow and within 2 milliseconds I'm out for the count. Next thing I know I'm woken by Martin entering the room wondering If I was still alive. Got about 3 hours sleep in and felt much better for it. Headed down to PH poker room to see if there was anyone around or much action. Only Martin was in PH Poker room and all the tables were full but they were just opening a new table so I jumped into that. Got off to a fairly ideal start when I raise to $10 with AA from EP, get two callers and a guy ships all in for $130 total from the BB. I make the call and the other two players fold out. Board runs out ten high rags and I'm good. 1/7 for big pocket pairs now Game seemed good and I was finally starting to run a little better. Had one fairly annoying hand where it was folded to me on the BTN and I raise to $8 with A6o. The BB who I'd had a bit of banter with previously (he was abusing my clothes) made the call. Flop came 566r and now the BB just leads out $50 into the pot of $17. Prettttty dream spot I thought as I ship all in for about $280 effective. He makes the snap call but I still think I've got the nuts and just turn my hand over. Turn comes a T and the river is the fairly brutal 5. The BB says "You got me, nh" and goes to muck and as he's mucking just shows his hand and shows the J6o face up on the table. Dealer announces "Chop chop". BB looks a little perplexed as he studies the board before noticing the 5 on the river and the chop. He almost mucked his full house. He even got the extra $1 in the pot as well! I can't complain too much though, didn't lose the hand and ran well this session. In for $300 and out for $700. Got yesterdays losses back at least and starting to dig myself out of that hole.

My moral is higher than yesterday. Group moral not great though, I think everyone is a little tired and down different variations of chunks in Craps and Poker this trip apart from Martin. We still have sometime to change that though. Until tomorrow

If day 1 was largely a success then day 2 was pretty much a disaster from my point of view!

Kicked things off with a swift $100 loss in the PH early morning game as we all met up in dribs and drabs before getting breakfast together in the Paris. When we arrived I tried to induce some CCR appetite and ended up hoist by my own petard as I came a cropper and ended my streak of CCR rungood to the tune of the $100 bill.

Not even midday and we’re -$200. We head to the Beer Park for the Man Utd - PSG football game but the bright daylight makes it hard to see any of the TVs property so we abort and choose the Cosmo sportsbook instead.

We arrive just in time to get a quick bet on the game and with a few Man Utd fans in the group I join the rail with a $50 wager. Dan, Jon and I play some pool whilst the game is on and a reasonably sleazy looking guy wanders over with a suitcase and introduces himself and asks to play the winner of Dan and Jon’s game in progress. I chat to him whilst we’re waiting and supposedly he bets sports for a living and has a lock of a pick for the NBA tonight. He’s a bit coy about telling me what it is though, so we agree that he’ll tell me if I beat him at pool and if he wins I owe him $10.

He’s not very good, but he does seem like he’s just come off a boozy coke-fuelled bender so he might not have been in prime condition. I beat him, and he tells me to bet Memphis Grizzlies with the handicap versus San Antonio Spurs tonight. He reckoned the sportsbook at Cosmo moved he line after he max-bet it. We chat some more and he tries to flog me drugs and tests the water of our appetite for “his girls”... and I’m starting to lose the faith in the credibility of his NBA tip as he inadvertently gives himself away as just a random sleazy degenerate pimp. After he leaves, the handicap line starts moving to make Spurs an even bigger favourite, from -4.5 when we arrived to -7... flying right in the face of our man’s tip. I assume some negative Grizzlies team news came out or something, and this is enough to put me off getting involved.

Dan and I head over to the Aria for PLO with Man Utd 0-2 down. Lists were long and we were about to head elsewhere until we get told they’re starting a new must-move PLO game. Once we both get moved to the main game it’s clear that it’s a pretty miserable affair with everyone just sat around waiting to cooler one another. I end up trying to force things a bit too much and taking an ill-advised spot to gamble in with 5678 on a flop that gave me a big wrap. I don’t have the flush draw that the flop offers though, which my opponent holding the same hand but 5678dd does, leaving me in awful shape.

I head off for a walk and end up back at the Bellagio where I throw some dice for a bit but never really felt much love from the game and lost $130. At this point morale on the day was low and I strolled to the Linq to get my first ever In-n-Out Burger. Verdict: okay! The burger was nice but fries not great and the place was busy, loud, dirty, and annoying but was a nice one to tick off the list.

Afterwards I went to the PH to say hello to a couple of the guys playing poker. I couldn’t be bothered to play myself, instead wanting something more brainless to slowly degenerate on whilst drinking a couple of beers so I pitched up at a Pai Gow table. Jon came along soon after and I gave him a crash-course in how to play and he pulled up a pew as well. Dan arrived having done his money in the PH poker game and after railing us for a while he also decided to get involved. It was a fun way to wind down a bit and enjoy a couple of beers and I managed to lose only $5.

I was beginning to struggle with tiredness and jet lag at this point, and we headed over to the Bellagio via the Cosmo in search of some more low stakes degen action and drinks. We headed to Petrossian in the Bellagio where I go back to back on CCR losses to cover our $60 round of drinks here. With tiredness firmly set in and morale for gambling irrecoverably low on the day, I call it a night and head to bed, -740 on the day. The Grizzlies also went down by only 1 point so would have been a winner on the handicap like our man advised. That was a ticket to Unstuckville and I turned it down - d’oh!

So, not the day 2 we were looking for! But I’ve just woken up here at 9am after getting to bed at 11.30pm so am very happy with a solid night’s sleep and feeling ready to go again today. The plan as yet is up in the air but there primary objective is to take some steps up the ladder out of yesterday’s hole!

Thanks for the tip.

In a pretty soft if snug game at the Bellagio here. Won a nice pot early on rivering a flush, but lost a big one with K8ss. I defend against a LP open and flop is KQxs, I check call a bet from original raiser and turn a spade. I check/shove for 150 effective andhe tank calls it off with AK, river brick.

Feeling good though and settling in for the grind!

Another tip - if you play 3 hours at PHo between 5 am and 2 pm, you get a $20 comp for the buffet (which is reportedly terrible) or Ringers. Ringers is a snack bar type of place over by the sports book bar. Ask for directions because you'll never find it otherwise. They have gigantic pizza and other sports book food.

Taking a mid-session interval over at Sadelle’s in the B to grab some lunch. Got some $30 fried chicken en route.

Got a fun table, everyone is pretty face up and I’ve managed to make a few hands. Made a bad hero call with A high versus an Asian lady, but got lucky with QT on QQ6 which went all in on the 9 turn. I’m up against 56 (or so I thought) so no sweat, easy win. Then everyone gasps when the 9 hits the river and turns out I was actually against 66. A casual no-look river 3-outer from myself there.

Just before I headed out for lunch I made it 15 pre with QQ, 2 callers. Flop J62, cbet 25 and one lady caller with around 70 behind. Turn 9x, I stick her in for the rest of it and she calls. River Td completing back door flush and pairing some J kickers didn’t feel great but she mucks and we win a nice one.

Sitting on around 450. Feels very nice to not just be spewing off cash left right and centre so far today. (“So far”...)

I checked with the dealer how long I have for lunch in order to keep my seat.
“You have an hour and fifteen,” she said.

“Be quick,” the Asian lady grinned. Sheer needles here on table 37.
