Actually, it's barely half a mile north. In fact, Encore is just over a mile a way (in a direct line up the strip, not door-to-door).

I think most everyone attributing SLS's problems to location are wrong. Sure, it's a contributing factor; but let's remember, Sahara thrived in that location for 40-50 years, and survived for another 10-20. I think DanAkaSalty nailed the problems in his post:

The problem SLS has is finding an identity. They're charging prices only slightly less than Venetian, Aria, and even Wynn at times. In Miami these prices work great, but there is simply too much high quality competition in Vegas. SLS needs a complete re-branding. Do something completely different than other Vegas hotels- drop resort fees, give free upgrades to build loyalty, start a program where you get a $10 cab credit each night or a free monorail ride, etc. It's time to think outside the box, especially with more competition coming up north soon.

Yeah, I think that pretty much sums it up. Prices need to drop dramatically in order to lure me in. For that price, I'm staying in the middle of strip. I'm curious as to what the room rates/comps are for an average player. I played only an hour of 5x$.25 VP at the bar and received mailers already about special room rates and $15 in food comps.

Last March I put $500 on the BJ table and the dealer had a shocked look on her face. I played three short sessions of BJ betting the min, $15, and I received two different room comp offers not long after. I would consider staying there on comps, but I would be cabbing it back and forth to Aria to play poker, and only playing a minimum amount of BJ to maybe get another offer.

I used to live across the street from SLS (2015 through March 2016) and would go there regularly to frequent the bars and restaurants. I liked the place and became friends with some of the bartenders/waitstaff.

I also played AP blackjack one too many times and unfortunately got banned for life from the property. I tried to get reinstated by promising to be a good boy, stay far away from the bj pit, and offering to check-in with security when I arrive, etc. But they rudely told me to **** off. So **** them.

But for most of those years you had Frontier and Stardust (even Wet 'n Wild) nearby, giving people more of an incentive to walk to Sahara. Its a lot more derelict on the north Strip now, hurting foot traffic.

I had wondered how the funding for SLS came about.

It was the green card/citizenship for investments scam.

Only if the couch is in an at least somewhat hip place.

SLS is in a ****ty location and doesn't offer anything. It's not appealing to older gamblers who want to have a cheapish place with slots, free booze and smoking. Doesn't appeal to rich non-Chinese people who look for fancy restaurants, shops, clubs and shows. Doesn't appeal to younger people who want to be where the hip crowd parties.

You have offer something to make people stay at or even visit your place instead of picking a center Strip location. Wynn/Encore work because they attract a specific clientele that consists of a high percentage of people who don't even have the urge to leave the resort multiple times a day. Wynn would work in SLS location, SLS wouldn't work in the Wynn location.

SLS would be fine in the Wynn location. It's pretty nice inside. I was there for 3 days last week for a conference. It has the requisite fancy looking overpriced restaurants.

They need a theme. Or some kind of hook. It's a generic casino. There's no reason for people to want to go down there. They need promos, like reimbursing a monorail ticket, freeroll slot tournaments, and like that.
