Anyone tried these machines? Can you actually make maney from these? Why wouldn't I play these instead of some ****ty slot? What's going on?

I’ve played a couple of them. In addition to PH I’ve seen them at MGM and Venetian.

Tried the zombie game a few times and I got better at it, but I thought it was difficult. It starts out easy but when you start having success it starts throwing a huge number of zombies at you and you usually don’t have much ammo.

Not sure how good someone can get but I felt like I had to play it at least hundreds of times to have a chance to get a lot better and even then I’m not confident because they want players to lose. Someone that hasn’t played video games much could have an even more difficult time with it.

Many would prefer slots for the chance to hit jackpots. And you’ll get more comps, upgrade your players card faster, etc. from slots. And some will stick with slots because that’s what they are used to.

Aight, so how does those machines actually work? Do you have to reach certain point to win and how much you can win? I'm going to vegas in couple of weeks and my main motivation at being in casino floor (besides pokkers) is to score as many drinks i can without losing too much money - if i play that game on mobile for a while could it be profitable?

This whole concept seems pretty absurd and i just don't understand what's the point of these machines.

The description talks about you against other players. Can't imagine it would allow you to win more than was bet or it would invite collusion.

Watched some guy playing the zombie game at MGM the other night, reminded me of the old Left 4 Dead arcade games with the plastic guns... I'm not sure if he was making any money but he was intensely involved and looked like he'd been there for hours. From what I could see you could bet up to $5 a "round" and good enough scores could get you payouts of ~5-1 (maybe higher).

No idea if he was earning comps... but the casinos can no doubt adjust payouts to keep the gamer types coming back. From my perspective it was a lot more interesting/engaging than watching someone play slots.

comps are basically nil. and the catch is the "prize" is random. skill after not being 75 year old lady is meaningless. IF you can play bejeweled or played halo for more than 15 minutes you can beat the game. but the prizes are losers.

So it's not the $5/tier credit that ordinary slots pay?

As for video games the last I played in an arcade was Space Invaders and solitaire on my pc, so I better avoid.

The zombie game has 3 objectives you need to accomplish. Each time you play, the objectives and weapon you have will be different (you start out with a different weapon every time you play). Achieve 1 out of 3 objectives and you get a little bit of your money back. Achieve 2 out of 3 and you get your money back plus a little more. 3 out of 3 will get you the highest payout.

They also have 3 difficulty levels to choose from with bigger payouts for the harder ones.

Achieving 1 out of 3 objectives is really easy because they give you one mission to accomplish that is easy and quick to do and there aren’t many zombies when you start out. Getting 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 3 is much harder and they throw a lot more zombies at you when you get closer to beating the level. If there are a bunch of zombies out there and you run out of ammo then you’re probably ****ed.

I feel like I have to focus when I play it so some might prefer a different game if they plan on drinking. It is cheap to play though (and really cheap if you pick the cheapest, easiest level).

People are also more likely to stop and watch you play this game. Nobody ever stops to watch me play any other machines.

I think the easiest level gets you twice your buy-in (which is a buck lol, so you win $2), and I can’t remember the other payouts. Think the hardest level gives you $25 (you put in $5 to play that level).

Isn't it easier to just sell you gold pieces in the world of warcraft universe?

I played the game for entertainment. Seems silly to me to play it for money.

Walked by the machines at PH and MGM and it looks like they removed the zombie game and there are 4 other games left. They keep making changes to the machines.

There was a 4 handed game where you grab cards to make a hand. I saw it at G2E a while ago; it was fun to play but open to collusion/cheating/team play.

It was open at the V, at one point.

Zombie game is back and the biggest difference now is you die faster. I guess they think people will lose faster this way, but it has made me almost never play it now.

I think one of the other games was missing so maybe they are making changes to it.

Anyone play the space invader game? I saw a couple of them at binions...

I've played it in Atlantic City. I'm not a slot player, but I dropped a lot of quarters in this game at the arcade when it came out in the late 70's so I had to give the slot a try.
It plays like a normal slot, and during the spins a random missile base (or two) will occasionally appear on the screen. As you collect them, an image of a quarter will start to appear on the right side of the screen. You need to collect 50 of these to equal two quarters, and that will earn you the privilege of playing Space Invaders. You only get one missile base to play, so don't mess it up. They give you an opportunity to practice before you do it for real.
The first time I got to the bonus, I screwed up and lasted about 10 seconds for a whopping $1.50 in bonus money. The next time I did better and earned about $35 on the bonus. Hitting the alien ship that crosses the top of the screen is worth plenty.
It can take awhile to accumulate the 50 cents you need to play the bonus, but sometimes you'll come upon a machine that someone has played and given up on. The last time I played, I found a machine that already had 24 cents built up towards the bonus round so I was already half-way there. That's the only way I would probably play it again because getting to play the actual Space Invaders game is too infrequent. I'll just go home and play it on my Atari 2600 (which I do actually still have).

You also can just pay $20 at any time to play the space invaders game. You don't actually have to play the slot machine part at all if you don't want to.

FYI When I was in Vegas last week they were setting up some racing game w/ 3 seats in Venetian right outside the main poker room entrance to the right.

I do not know if it is available anywhere. The machines are long gone from the Venetian after their placement there.

I think "skill based" gaming offerings were entertaining to try, but very poor for gambling. Additionally, the machines at the V were susceptible to collusive team play.

Caesars Palace has a Pac Man game and a multi-game machine with things like Bejeweled, a word game, and other app-like games. They are located near Omnia. I haven’t played them so I can’t offer any info.
