“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” --Last name Twain, First Name Mark
--Just do it. Do it for the rush, for the adventure, for the dream. Use your sales experience to chat up the table. Get reads that way, it gives you an edge. Have fun at the low stake games, for that's what you're supposed to be having, fun. I got a hunch...give us a good update. Screw the limited bankroll, use what you got on the table and make it work.

Thanks for the support. It's refreshing to read a post that defines exactly what I intend to do in such an amazing way. I've read a good portion of your thread and I've always enjoyed your positive attitude and free spirit. Cheers to doing it for the adventure.

Lol if its all for poker its not that bad. Seven buyins at 1 2. If he just avoids the runbad it could last him a while. But other expenses will eat up profit and when inevitable downsing comes,....

I think you have about a 2% chance of making it a month, but with that said I sure hope you make it. Def get a roomate or something to curb some of the living expenses. You can't afford to tip the waitress either lol..good luck op

Why not play in SoCal? Surely the games are better there.

I think you'd be better off freerolling me into a $1k at 80/20.

I did a weekend in October with $3000, lost it the first night, couldn't win a hand.

I would be more concerned that you made 6 figures and blown it than your inadequate bankroll. I imagine even if you luckbox it in to $5000 in a week, you're just going to blow it in one of the many ways you can blow it in Vegas.

What were your buy ins, 1k a piece? Anything lower, then you're probably over playing your hands, not putting a stop/loss when appropriate.

Does that apply to Anders Breivik too?

If $1500 was the poker bankroll, there might be a decent chance. But that money includes housing/food/transport/everything. What about stuff like health insurance for example?

It's a prayer, hopes and wishes..

$1500 to Vegas is nothing more than a weekend getaway, and considering you've easily blown 6 figures, I am assuming you have some sort of vice (degeneracy/addiction) to spoil your goal. Even the nittiest of the nitty couldn't do this with 15 hundo

Lost with AK on a board of A, 10, 4 : some grandpa called my all in on the flop with Q4 and hit a queen on the river. sick.

Stuff like health insurance? Really? The kid's taking a bus from so cal with 7 1-2 buyins and we're already talking about health insurance?

I mean these types of quotes are always inspirational, but that doesn't mean you can't have a better plan to accomplish more with your adventure. Figure out what adventure you want, but at least go after it in a way that gives you the highest probability of succeeding.

I feel like all of these people who go out to Vegas and start out at 1/2 NL are not giving themselves the best chance to succeed. I would think that at a minimum you would need to start out at 2/5NL to have any chance of making it. Online was so much easier because you can play so many hands and the jumps in stakes weren't as high. I'm not sure how guys deal with it psychologically to take such big jumps in stakes and then play so few hands per hour that if you hit an untimely downswing during a jump it could take weeks to make your money back.

The jumps online from NL100 to NL200 to NL400 to NL600 to NL1000 make getting to NL1000 much easier psychologically. And if you hit an untimely downswing when you jump up, it's so easy to make your money back because you play so many hands.

Basically what I'm saying is while it made sense back in the day to start small and work your way up, I don't think it makes sense for these live players. It makes more sense to plan carefully and be ready to jump into a 2/5NL game at a minimum. Otherwise you're essentially going to be starting out in quick sand and you're never going to make it out.

The date is set. Saturday, November 24, 2012 I will be arriving by bus. I just booked 6 nights at The Luxor. After paying for the bus ticket and room I will have a total of $1100 to cover poker buyins and living expenses. This is going to be a hell of a ride ladies and gentlemen! I can't wait to get this party started!
