If Germany is like that very cool.
Sorry about the confusion. I was talking about Germany. I don't know too much about the other countries in Europe other than I'm pretty sure most European countries have a state run parlay betting system. It's called Lotto in Germany and I think totto in Greece.
Anyway, I'm not sure what the situation is now in Germany. Sports betting firms, like William Hill, domestic and international are legal. But what I was talking about was the small, private sports books. I'm not even sure what agreement to operate they have with the government.
But yes, it's sort of cool and different than anything in us.
Basically, it's either a small place about the size of a convenient store where you can go and place bets of any kind. Some are a little more fancy, like the place where I lived. It was an apartment building in the city and the ground floor had a cafeteria. The guy who ran it was a Greek. Later he renovated it a little and converted it into a cafe/ sports bet bar.
I'd go downstairs, order my coffee, watch the soccer games in the multiple tv's and look at the sports cards to decide which bets to place.
Don't get the wrong idea, I was only making small wagers of 10 or 20 euros. And I wasn't very good at it. Oh, and sometimes they'd set up a table at night and run a poker game. Good times.
But, I'm not a degen!
Fun fact. There is a soccer game being played virtually 24/7.
At least that's how it seemed to me. Was always a game on.
