There's nothing like signing on and seeing lots of great new pics as your journey continues. While Hellmuth's antics are way over the top, not to mention his ego, there is no denying he is the greatest NLHE tournament player in history. Pretty cool to see it actually happen.

Great job degen'n it up all night. That's how a solo trip should be. Keep up the good work.

Awesome trip report, love all the pics! I had to pass on the WSOP trip this year (life, amirite?), so these TRs (especially with pics!) are really helping me get over it.

Should we assume a plane is like a boat? A hole in the runway you throw money into? Or, alternately, the two happiest days of plane ownership? The day you buy your plane, and the day you sell it? Guess not so much the later?

I would think the ole saying, there's nothing like your friends boat, applies to a plane as well.

A few of our friends have lake houses with private docks and all the toys about 90 minutes from Dallas. They keep asking us when are we going to buy one next to them. I'm like, why in the hell would I spend money on that when I have your two places to stay at whenever I want? I've got two boats and 4 seadoo's to choose from, for FREE. I mean seriously.

Heh, 201? That's what I flew around the Stratosphere in. Wasn't mine, I was just riding.

Got back from Rio and decided to journey over to Excal for the 2/6 spread limit game.
Wow, Excal sure has been updated. I haven't been there in about 20 years. Sure didn't recognize it from your pics.

I’m not trying to be sore here, but I’m not sure what the point was other than being able to say I now have a Diamond card. No access to Diamond Lounges because it doesn’t carry with it any tier credits (which I understand). But still. Why is it appealing? So I can skip a cab line here and there?
Not just cab lines - poker room lists, buffet lines, special room for hotel check-ins, free parking, no resort fees, etc. There's a long benefit list. People pay $500 to join a club that gets them Diamond and no tier credits.

I think of pickup trucks in that way. No way do I want to park one, put gas in one, drive one, buy tires for one, but damn if they aren't handy when you have something big you need to transport.

As for planes, they take a lot of maintenance, annuals, insurance, etc. But my friends that had/have them (one guy had two at the same time!) enjoyed every minute of ownership. For one thing, you don't have to hitch up the trailer, and drag the thing however far to the lake, drop it off the trailer, etc, etc just to use it. Big investment in time. A plane, go to the airport, spend maybe half an hour fueling, undoing tiedowns, pre-flight, and you're gone.

Trust me I get it. Life indeed.

As for the plane/boat comparison, it obviously depends, but in the broader sense I’d agree. It’s a very expensive hobby, but it’s definitely more useful than a boat IMO.

We had a ‘92 TLS Bravo (turbo). Mooneys really are amazing planes. Slicker than snot and would easily cruise 200+ knots. The challenge with Mooneys however is slowing them down. Not a great entry-level aircraft.

Wow, nice. Another friend had a turbo Piper, and that power made a huge difference in overall flight time because the climbout was so quick. It took us just slightly over an hour to fly from Monterey, CA to Vegas. Airliner 737 is only about 10 minutes faster. Of course, we flew at only about 18000 too, so spent less time climbing.

Heh, on the aforementioned flight to Vegas, during landing the pilot said "Man, than runway sure is whizzing by fast". Absent-minded pilot forgot to put full flaps in.

Yep that’s the beauty of a powerful airplane. 25000 was the service ceiling, and I only had it up there twice. At that altitude there’s obviously oxygen involved (non-pressurized cabin) which always made me nervous. I’m a very cautious pilot...there are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots.

We thankfully had speed brakes on our Mooney which helped a TON. Without those, it would’ve been a nightmare.

Ok. Famished, so I hit House of Blues since it was close.

That’s the “Foothills” flatbread, and it’s not too shabby.

Going to go freshen, put on the trunks and then hit Daylight.

Random side note, I’m a Tim and Eric fan, and this had me in stitches this morning.

Rather than go to the pool, I fell asleep. Nice move old man!

Going to clean up, then head done for some who knows. Then dinner.

Also, I really like this car Semi-Live TR 7/7 - 7/11

My friend's Piper (Malibu Mirage) was pressurized. So nice! At 18000, cruising 160 airspeed, it was doing well over 200 over the ground. He later picked up a Citation.

WRT that Cobra, I guess it's one of the "new" manufacture ones? Another friend of mine that lives in Vegas put together a reproduction. He put in a stroker small block that made ~450 hp.

It's nice to have rich friends.

Now that’s a sweet airplane!

I have to assume the Cobra is a new production. No way they’d have an original sitting out for all of the idiots who come through to touch.

Stripsteak for dinner. Wagyu rib cap with a corn soup and king crab to start...and yes a Dr Pepper and water.

Absolutely delicious all the way around. I can’t recommend this steak enough. Second time I’ve had it. Yes expensive, but my God, it’s easily the best steak I’ve ever had. And that’s saying something for me given how much I love a good steak.

No pics of the waitresses?

I went there once years ago, when my broker gave me a "thank you" dinner at a trading convention. The waitresses were all wearing tight black leather, with nary a c-cup among them (all D's and up).

Oh noes. I thought it was named Strip Steak because the waitresses all looked and dressed like strippers. What a shame it changed.

Donated a few hundred to High Card Flush while at Excal. Never made into a poker game, but that might happen momentarily back at Mandalay Bay.

Some photos (took the tram)...

Played for a couple hours and basically broke even. Not a great game, but I’ll take a win of any size.

Sun is coming up, and people are leaving. I’ve never done the super early departure. It looks awful!

That steak looks very tasty. What’s your fave place in Dallas? I’ve really grown to love Town Hearth. They have an amazing bone in ribeye and they have all different ages of Pappy.

Seriously, great job on the live TR. I tried a live one once and failed miserably. I have really liked all the pics of the less popular properties. It definitely gives a different viewpoint of the strip that is easily forgotten by lots of people, including myself.

Thank you for the kind words. Definitely makes it worth it knowing some folks are actually enjoying the effort Semi-Live TR 7/7 - 7/11

I haven’t tried Town Hearth yet, but I’ve heard great things. And now I’ll have to give it a go!

Personally I think it’s tough to beat Pappas Brothers steakhouse. Or, as lame as it sounds, Del Frisco’s. Having said that, this rib cap is unlike anything I’ve ever had before. It’s incredible.
