If you find yourself at the Rio, the best VP payouts, and the lowest stakes to boot, in the vicinity of the Strip are at Gold Coast. See vpfree2.

You’re the man. Thanks buddy.

More or less treading water. Waiting on a 1/1 PLO game to open!

I’m beside myself. It has been three hours, and we’re so close!

I’ll give an example: I can be in the backest of back rooms at the Plaza watching destitute gamblers plug away on seemingly ancient slot machines, and yes I’m sad in a way, but oddly I’m also uplifted. I can also be around the glitz of the Aria or Bellagio and feel a very real emptiness. It’s a mysterious phenomenon.

I remember a few years back, I was staying at Aria for a work-related conference and ambitiously decided I’d take the tram to the conference every day which meant trekking all the way down and through Bally’s which is quite a hike. There was a bartender I met the first day (Miguel) working at a bar that seemed like it’d never had a customer, and it was right next to the tired and empty sports book. It was a Tuesday morning, and I stopped for some reason. I ended up spending a few hours there that day and went back every day I was in town. He was such a character.

Maybe it’s the people? I know it’s a service town, but people are so friendly, open, and interesting here. It’s seems so genuine for the most part, club promoters aside.

Anyway I just think I love this town. For all of its flaws, it’s a damn interesting place. I guess I’ll leave it at that.

I know this feeling very well, although I have only been to Vegas once for 10 days so can be considered a rookie. I sleep pretty bad, and add the jetlag from Europe meant I was up super early every morning. Was a fantastic thing to order a huge coffe at the Harrahs Starbucks which is just at the entrance next to Linq. Could sit there for 2 hours and just watch the people, all the crazy **** and the stories going on. It really is a place that you cannot explain unless you have actually been there.

I feel similarly, or at least a version thereof. For me, it can more easily be summed up by the pros and cons of old/beat/downtown Vegas vs new/shiny/strip Vegas. Neither is perfect, and at times I want both (or none).

Old Vegas-
Pros- better gamble value, more "true" gamblers, people legit happy at winning 5$, little pretense or people just trying to be seen
Cons- real risk of food poisoning, more dangerous, tougher to get to, less eye candy, my parents hate it

New Vegas-
Pros- great food, shows, etc; opulence, basically safe, lots of beauty all around
Cons- obv rip offs left and right, tons of idiots just trying to be seen, tons of arrogant, annoying wealthy people

I guess my perfect casino would be a place with full pay VP machines as far as the eye can see, 100x odds on craps, 5 star restaurants and service, smack in the middle of the strip with ridiculously good looking yet humble women, that would be fully comped or 99$/night. Is that too much to ask?

You missed the rain yesterday and the overcast humidity today. I mean who wants sunshine on the Vegas strip when you could have this?

Nothing like having the wife extend her trip so you can....???

Did they have amazing rates for you at the last minute? I've never stayed there due to being so far down the strip. Be sure and post pics of the room and property.

Complimentary for tonight and tomorrow. $40 for Friday. Resort fees on top, but I can usually get those waived. I actually really like the property other than the location. Stayed there last June for Kovalev/Ward 2.

Will do on pics!

Breakfast now...

Or people trying to convince you they're wealthy. That's one of the downsides to the Wynn - there seems to be a fair number of folks that have maybe ten grand to their name, and they blow eight grand showing off for a weekend in Vegas.

That's almost the Orleans, except for the location. Not a lot of eye candy there until rodeo time though.

A little World Cup at Gem Bar before I go. Also I made the mistake of trying Caveman Keno. This could be trouble.

Great TR! Found out about 2+2 right before my trip for WSOP. Greatest find ever.

Bwakus23 and Bdywax, do you guys go up to Winstar or Choctaw to play? I live in Burleson and have the itch to play more but haven't been to Winstar?

Again, great TR.

Thanks man. Appreciate you following along. My wife is from Burleson! Small world.

I haven’t been to Winstar for poker in a long time. From what I remember (this was before the new room opened), it was 60 or so tables and plenty of action. I go to Choctaw somewhat often now that I’m in Dallas since it’s closer. I’d say the room is just ok. Soft games though which is a plus. Just hard to find the variety of games and stakes you can get at Winstar.

That’s my two cents

Side note: maybe it’s just me, but the Park MGM (old Monte Carlo) renovation is almost done, and I’m not a fan. It doesn’t seem to have much personality...like it’s all new stuff obviously, but I don’t get a “feel” from that place at all.

I also dislike the color scheme. Sorry to be negative, but no bueno.

Free is always good. I remember going to the restaurant/wine bar there that has the wine angels for the first time. It was an awesome meal.

The pic of shrimp and grits just made me hungry. I think I’ll have to make that soon.

I went to Winstar a lot about 7 years ago. It can be busy during the weekday evenings and gets super busy on the weekends. I would say it’s a solid room and mostly ran well. I’ve played at Choctaw a few times and it’s not near as busy as Winstar. They do hold a few larger tourneys there and those times it gets lots of action.

Those are my Keno numbers for 5 -Spot. Find a machine that does Caveman Keno Plus. The paytable is better and when you get 2 eggs, it multiplies 4x and you get 3 extra numbers after the 20. If you get 3 eggs, it's an 8x multiplier and 3 extra numbers.

May the Degen Gods be with you!

Just arrived at Mandalay. Executive King room...

Just finishing up a discussion (more listening than anything) with one the Sports Book bartenders. He gave me the skinny on his favorite all-time Hollywood topless scenes.

“Nobody’s Fool” made the top of the list. Apparently Melanie Griffith’s “chee chees” really dazzled him. Another example of random charming run-ins with locals.

Have they done any type of renovations there in the past 10 years? The place looks better than I remembered.
