Finally, some poker!
Despite being tired, I forced myself down to play a bit. Staying at Signature, the poker room at MGM Grand was an obvious choice for a quick session. 7 tables running tonight, and I quickly got a seat in a $1-$2 game.
Sat down with $300, and honestly only had two interesting hands the short time I played.
In the first one there was a raise from a local to $11 from EP1 over a limp from UTG. I make the call in CO with
8c 8d, and everyone else folds. We see a nice looking
9-8-6 flop with two spades. The raiser bets $25, which is full pot, and I make it $80 to go. I would consider making this raise with many kinds of hands (good flushdraws, 97, 76) to put pressure on overpairs, so it seems fairly standard. Opponent has none of that however, and moves all-in. I obviously snap-call, and am good for (almost) a full double.
(opponent said he had Aces, and I assume he was telling the truth)
A bit later I get
Aces myself, and raise to $8 from UTG. A very weak player in UTG+1 calls, and the opponent from last hand calls in BB. Flop comes
Js-8d-2s, and I bet $16 into $25. First player folds, but BB check-raises to $32. I assume that means he is strong, and he only have around $100 behind. I go all-in, and he thinks for a long time before deciding on a fold.
As soon as the hand is over I realize I made a mistake. A min-click back there is often a hand trying to find out where it's at, and being in position I think I can call and underrep my hand a bit. Yes, there are some draws out there that I potentially let him draw to cheaply, but it would be a huge disaster if he somehow folded a hand like QJ and JT that he otherwise might continue to bet on turn.
Anyway, I will blame that hand on the tiredness-factor. And if nothing else, we have a nice looking stack:
Not too much else happened after this hand, and I was tired and felt the concentration starting to fade. So I just cashed out and booked the nice start to the trip after only playing for 1.5 hours.
Cash games:
Hours played: 1h 30 min
Profit/loss: +$357 USD
Hourly rate: +$238.00 USD
Now it's 8:30 PM, and I'm heading to bed. Living the rockstar life out here in Las Vegas for sure! Will come back stronger tomorrow, and I am sure K and J will update their travel as well. Hopefully it won't be a 'badsalt' trip for them! (internal joke).
