Safety Measures implemented in Vegas after Mandalay Bay Shooting- Security Room Checks? Safety Measures implemented in Vegas after Mandalay Bay Shooting- Security Room Checks?

I was reading a story on a Vegas Facebook group I recently joined. A woman posting there claimed Security walked in while she was in the shower.

I thought it might just be a troll looking for attention, but other people chimed in and said they had experienced the same thing-not the shower part per se- but that Security had come to their rooms to perform a check. Some also said their room had been entered while they were away.

Apparently if you leave the DND sign up for 3 consecutive days and no staff has been in your room during that period, Hotel security will come by to perform a safety check.

Anyone experienced this?

I have to say I'm not a big fan of this new policy/procedure if in fact it's been implemented.

Last thing I need is Hotel Security banging on my door at 10am while I'm lying in bed comatose from the night before.

Not a new policy, just one that they’ll probably be paying much more attention to now. I had a welfare check like that at Red Rock years ago. They mostly just want to make sure you didn’t die in the room.

Also, who doesn’t lock the deadbolt while in the room, especially while in the shower.

There are pretty obvious reasons why every (legit) hotel does that.

#1: Dead people in your hotel rooms are really really really bad for business.

Think I saw that on pornhub last week.

I'm sure they knocked and she didn't hear them. They're not just walking in at will knowing someone might be in there.

I like now that more hotel video footage is being being released the news is really trying to pound home the fact that he looks just like an older tourist guy who acted normal and you would never expect to do what he did.

What about when he's wheeling up 12 large suitcases up to his room, is that normal??? I mean maybe i travel light but one guy and 12 suitcases seems out of the norm to me. Not only that but he had bellhop take them up to his room so its not like he kept coming down and grabbing 1 or 2 to avoid suspicion.

Yeah, but that footage might as well be you or me. sitting at a VP machine. Waiting for an elevator. So exciting. Guess they couldn't find any of him drowning cats, etc.

I seem to remember some marketing slogan about how unusual behavior isn't considered unusual. Something like, "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."

Besides, the police orginally were looking for his girlfriend. Not out of the realm of possibility with a high roller having his girl friend join him in a couple days that she would have a lot of suitcases. This guy must of had a casino host and no bellhop is going to risk their job questioning a casino host's player.

It’s very possible that policy changed after the incident.

What else is going to change might depend on the outcome of lawsuits against Mandalay Bay.

Thanks didn't realize this was a common practice. We normally get our room done every other day, so I never experienced this before.

Yeah you're probably right, she did say she was in a suite where the shower was located far away from the door. They most likely knocked first.

Watch the video on the thread about it on this forum. He made 3 different trips up w 5-6 suitcases per trip, it didn't look suspicious. He had different bellhops take them up on different days. He tipped them and asked to go w him through the staff elevator (which isn't that uncommon). No one knew anything different, his attack was thought out.

When I stayed at Harrah's in January I opted out of room service to pick up a $30 restaurant credit. I wonder how that option fits in with "wellness checks".

Happened to me at The Orleans in November. Very inconvenient, kinda cramped my style, because I like to get high and not be bothered, and I don't make much of a mess so I don't require housekeeping.

I knowingly had the do not disturb sign up for 2 consecutive days, but mistakenly thought they wouldn't need to do a check on me because I talked to a housekeeper on the 2nd day to tell her I didn't need the room cleaned. When I returned to my room in the late afternoon, I was locked out.

At the front desk, they told me they locked me out because the bathroom smelled like weed for some strange reason, and that they were charging me a $150 fee for smoking in a non smoking room. They reprogrammed my key card, but I had to talk to a manager the next day to negotiate reversing the $150 fee, assuring him the room wouldn't reek when I checked out.

The manager was reasonable, and the story ends well. When I checked out, housekeeping inspected the room, it didn't reek (and I left a cash tip), so they reversed the $150 fee.

The lesson I learned from this experience, is to use cannabis oil vape cartridges (CO2 extraction) in the room instead of smoking flowers! No lingering odor, and a higher THC concentration is a win-win!

They still offer $10 a day food comp but they may still knock on your door to say hello if you opt out of housekeeping.

Put a sock on the doorknob if you're going to be in the shower for that long. Otherwise, they can wait in the corridor for a few minutes.

Checked in Thursday at noon at Park/MC and put dnd sign up. Sign was left on door Friday as well and when I returned at 1am one of my TV’s I had left on the aquarium channel was off and the sliding door to my walk in closet was in a different spot. Thought I was nuts until I saw the thread.

TVs often have an auto shut off function.

Also, air conditioners often have motion sensors to save on electricity. I wonder if the hotel has access to all of this data without entering the room for a wellness check.

Key card info, TV on/off status, motion activation of A/C. These alone could be used as a wellness check without entering a room and invading privacy.

Hate those. I stayed at Rio in a suite that has floor to ceiling windows for a WSOP that was extra hot that year. The room was in the mid-80's and it wouldn't cool off until late at night.

Misses the point. They want to come in and snoop to see if you have a dozen AR-15's and 3000 rounds of ammunition.

the whole daily housekeeping seems excessive for guests staying multiple nights.

Compare it to being home. Does anyone change bedding, towels, vacuum and clean their home or apartment on a daily basis? Maybe a few OCD type people but I certainly don't. I never eat in my room, I keep my dirty clothes in a separate bag, throw my garbage in the trash can, etc. not super clean but not trashing my personal space either.

Unless people are being total pigs there is no reason to clean the room daily.
