Tried to go tonight, line was literally thousands of people long. F that.

'Essence' on Jones/Trop had a major line so we drove to 'Zen' on Post/Fort Apache.

We got there around 12:30am and the line wasn't anywhere near as long as Essence. But it didnt matter. We didn't make it in by the 3am cutoff time. They did however give us line passes for future visits.

I've never tried any kind of unauthorized drug, just never had the inkling to try it. But I was wondering what is the cost of weed as a legal purchase, compared to what it costs before it became legal. I do hope the medicinal value of this helps some people with their pain and other medical problems.

Depends on a lot of factors, with supply and demand being the most important one as always. But as a general rule of thumb, marijuana is cheaper on the black market than at a dispensary for two major reasons. Cost of running the business is higher for a dispensary, operating a store is more expensive than standing at a street corner. Legalized weed is also highly taxed compared to buying the tax-free product from your street dealer.

I read somewhere that only 20-35% of weed sales in California happen on the regulated market.

How do they do it there? When you go in does a budtender show you different jars and then pull what you want from that jar and then weigh it out in front of you? I've been to a couple of places in LA that show you stuff at the counter and then they bring out something packaged up from the back. I don't go back to those places.

i saw lots of pics and vids of the lines. just insane. i drove by zen leaf around that time. i don't think 6 hours would have got you through that line.

if i show up somewhere and there are 10 people in line i turn around and leave. it's not like walgreens were you walk to the counter and it's a 90 second transaction. people like to examine and smell the product, ask questions, flap their beak.

it's also a little overwhelming your first time in a dispensary because you don't know what anything is and you feel a little naughty because it seems so unreal and illegal, so that's going to slow it down as well.

almost everyone does pre-packaged here. zen leaf does the big jars, which is good when they have a fresh drop, and bad when you're getting the end of the jar.

you actually want the pre-packaged stuff in vegas. the reason almost everything here is pre-packaged is two fold.

one, most of the storefronts are selling the same 3rd party product as everyone else and the growers want to control their packaging/labeling.

second and more important reason is that the vegas air is incredibly dry and if you package with nitrogen as soon as the flower is ready, it will last much longer before drying out. if you send it to the dispensary in a big garbage bag they will have to use a bunch of those humidity packs to keep it from turning to dust very quickly.

FWIW, getting pre-packed stuff is also standard in the Netherlands, home of legalized pot.

That speeds up the whole process significantly and the risk of getting cheated is actually lower because more people are inclined to check the weight at home. Nobody ever re-checks the weight if the product was on a scale in front of them even though you have no idea if that scale was accurate, or if the guy used his hand to push it down or whatever.

The Weedmaps and Leafly apps will be your friend here. Lots of specials going on.

So since cartel and homegrown weed is cheaper than dispensary weed, people could just buy the cheaper stuff and if the cops stop you they wouldn't be able to know the source?

Can non-Nevada residents buy weed? Any shops on the strip? I wonder if it will have any big effect on the casinos or will it just be another drug that people do (it's not like it was hard to get alcohol or drugs before)?

I'm not particularly concerned about getting shorted, just curious if it was different due to regulations or something. The dry air/storage part is something I didn't think of. I didn't think I got scammed or anything, it's just that I went to a shop here once and they showed me some beautiful, dense, crystally chunks out of a jar and then the same strain, but a little lesser quality, was brought out of the back in a canister. I guess its just the way they were set up for business, but I wonder if part of it might have been a security issue for themselves. It just wasn't my style of shop.

For those of you who smoke regularly, do you anticipate buying legal or still the underground?

I really hate this new law because the licenses are so limited (I think 40 medical and 40 recreational, most of which will be dual). If we're going to make the decision that marijuana is OK, then why limit the number of licenses so severely? There was a lotto just to get the licenses and most of these people are going to be wealthy not because of any skill or unique service they can provide, but just because others are prohibited from competing.

No one has mentioned prices so far.

recreational pricing, for top shelf you're looking at around $20 for a gram, $65 for an 8th, $400 for an oz.

some places, as low as $10/gram if you're willing to smoke some crappy weed

for reference on how much prices have gone up, prior to recreational i wouldn't have considered paying more than $30/8th for the very top quality, i would just wait around for a sale

I still buy my flower through sources, $200/oz $120 1/2oz. I would only use a dispensary for concentrates or edibles, etc.

Prices will eventually drop. Top shelf now goes for as low as $50 for 7g ($7/g) in Los Angeles. Until then, you gun get raped.

I'm in Cali and I have my med card and that's the only reason why I go to the dispensary. Vape concentrate and edibles.

Drove by The Source today and there was probably 200 people in line.

I am parked outside The Grove right now. I am pretty much a dispensary noob right now but have partaked since 96 periodically. I plan on getting an edible for the fireworks and the Deftones next weekend. My mother in laws dog needs something for seizures so I will check out if they have any oils or whatnot.
