Gotcha. I have a feeling they`re going to refer you to a Pulmonologist even if they figure out exactly what it is. Hopefully not, sometimes it can take a few weeks to get an appointment with specialists like that, and it`ll also be more of a pain in the ass.

heh. Welcome to my life.

That wouldn't have even registered with me as an unusual presenting complaint.

Our health care system is so ****ed up that I AM the primary doctor most of the time.

He/she made sure you didn't have pneumonia and (probably) not a lung tumor. Your symptoms didn't go along with a primary cardiac problem, and PE seemed very unlikely given your history. Reflux can cause a cough, although you see it more often in kids. Prilosec is essentially harmless (in the short term) and might help. If you have some sort of allergic problem, that's not going to be sorted out in the ER, if ever. If your symptoms persist, a primary, followed by a pulmonary referral, would be the next step - which you almost certainly won't need.

Looks like pretty good care.

Hobbes...a comphrensive response however...your screen name gives me pause “Life is nasty, brutal and short” is a helluva motto for a doctor...though not necessarily inaccurate

Vegas is a very dusty and dry place... it doesn't help that the neon project is in full swing. I'd say you're experiencing a combination of that.

This Hobbes ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvin_and_Hobbes#Hobbes

"From Calvin's point of view, Hobbes is an anthropomorphic tiger, much larger than Calvin and full of independent attitudes and ideas. When the perspective shifts to any other character, readers see merely a stuffed animal, usually seated at an off-kilter angle and blankly staring into space. The true nature of the character is never resolved, instead as Watterson describes, a 'grown-up' version of reality is juxtaposed against Calvin's, with the reader left to "decide which is truer."

"Hobbes is named after the 17th-century philosopher Thomas Hobbes, who held what Watterson describes as "a dim view of human nature." He typically exhibits a greater understanding of consequences than Calvin, although rarely intervenes in Calvin's activities beyond a few oblique warnings. The friendship between the two characters provides the core dynamic of the strip. "

emergency room is like "I NEED DOCTOR RIGHT NOW OR I'LL DIE" not really for "I've had a nagging cough since Trump got elected"

let that be a lesson to all the readers out there! the ER is not your walk-in one stop medical shop!
Maybe the POTUS can simply declare it an emergency ....

I started looking into the background on the deal with casinos releasing scents through the HVAC systems. There`s still an ongoing battle with this practice because of how toxic some of them are. I really hope the OP`s cough has nothing to do with this. Here`s a link below to one of the articles, but if you google the subject matter you can find plenty more.

Lived in Vegas last year for 6 months and was basically in the Casinos most of the day. About a month in I developed a gnarly cough that basically never went away til I moved. Guess its probably the cigs, perfumes they spray, and dry/dusty air. Went to the doc and got some meds for it, but it never truly subsided.
