I've been playing full time for 5+ years now. The past 2 years an insane, uncontrollable cough has started when I'm in the casino/playing. Its almost everyday and happens almost exclusively in casinos. Obviously its very annoying, painful and people think I'm sick when I'm not...

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice? There's very little info I could find on it besides a couple people calling it "Vegas cough".

there's all kinds of things in the air in casinos. some of them spray perfume. most of them have cigarette smoke floating around. you might be sensitive to some kind of allergen.

there's also germs from all around the world.

have you been to the doctor? you shouldn't have an "insane, uncontrollable" cough for two years straight.

go to the doctor and make sure cancer isn't eating your throat or lungs!

I always get a bloody nose when visiting Vegas. I think it's the dry air.

Pretty standard for visitors from more humid parts of the world.

Bad cough happens a lot to European tourists who are not used to stepping in/out of ACed buildings the whole time. But something that sticks two years should definitely warrant a doctors visit.

I think something similar to what augie suggested is the case, I think you may have developed some kind of allergy to either smoke or the perfume that`s circulated. Or maybe you were already allergic to something like that, but it just hadn`t started to bother you until recently. Things like this can build up very slowly over time. I say that because my wife developed asthma due to being allergic to cats (we already had a cat when we learned she was allergic, but it had never bothered her in the slightest so we thought it was mild). The Pulmonologist said that the absence of humidity here didn`t help matters either. I would try to go to a Pulmonologist if you can, because in her case she was diagnosed with Bronchitis multiple times by a regular doctor before someone finally suggested she may have asthma. If your cough is dry and isn`t productive, it could be the same thing with you. Hope you figure it out and it`s something really mild.

On a serious side note, we probably dont think of a fancy, wide open casino being a big germ factory. Even if your are degening it up for hours upon hours at a time, it is not a bad idea to step out and get some "fresh" air from time to time.

Had the very same problem, some kind of allergies, and almost died at the Venetian first night. Could not play the tourney very close to the FT and ended up bubbling. Picked up some antihistamine tables from Harrahs the next morning and was fine after that for the whole week.

I've had that same insane cough on occasion.

I think it is the dry air, having been here 25+ years. Before trying a hospital, you might try a steam room or humidifier or even very hot shower. You can save $$$$ and thank me later.

Try Henderson Hospital if you are going to a hospital, however when you are in Las Vegas, the best place to go for quality healthcare is the airport.

Vegas cough is more of a hot/cold thing when entering/leaving A/C in 120+ degree heat.

It does not sound like allergies, although Spanish olive trees are a particularly nasty Las Vegas area allergy.

That was yesterday at 9:52. The readers demand to know if you are still alive. If you don't reply to this thread, we will assume you died.

I moved here from the Midwest randomly my coughed my ass off for a few days. As a visitor it used to happen by the time I was walking out of the airport.

Yes, I tried to go pro in 1997-ish and only lasted a month, you could smoke at the table back then and I developed a horrible cough, between that and the whipping I was getting at the tables, I packed up and left and the cough was gone soon thereafter

They took X-Rays and blood work and other stuff. All came back fine. He prescribed me some acid reflux medicine even though I don't have that. He also said to contact primary care doctor for a closer look and mabye specialists.

I went to CVS today and got these very strong lozenges and took the prilosec or whatever they gave me and 2 hours into tonights sessions its a lot milder but its not alwaysss insanely bad and this is one night so not gonna get my hopes up yet. .

Interesting to see other people have experienced this. Going to try that antihistamine I guess?¿? I'll try anything its been a couple years of hell tbh.

It is dry and the hospital I went to (New london, Connecticut) is infamously bad. Left feeling like he didnt look into everything. Gonna follow up with primary care doctor.

he probably didn't. he didn't say you're definitely fine, he said go to your primary doctor and get a referral to a specialist.

he might have been annoyed that you went to the emergency room for something that is two years old.

emergency room is like "I NEED DOCTOR RIGHT NOW OR I'LL DIE" not really for "I've had a nagging cough since Trump got elected"

let that be a lesson to all the readers out there! the ER is not your walk-in one stop medical shop!

LOL, I was thinking same thing. Hey ER doctor. Hi, what is your emergency that brings you to the hospital ER. For the last two years, everytime I go in to a casino and play poker for hours I get a nasty cough.

Surprised the Dr did not just say stop going to the casino for hours upon hours and your cured. Pay the receptionist on your way out.
