I've been a reg at PT's since I moved here last July, same as I was when I lived here for a few years in the early 2000's. Their bar network also includes Sean Patricks and Sierra Gold, adding up to around 50 locations in Las Vegas. I'm a steady drinker, and I pop in at all times of the day and night.

A few weeks ago I showed up at the neighborhood PT's to watch the Michael Cohen testimony. I preferred to watch it on CSPAN so I didn't have to put up with reading captions from talking heads. I told the bartender to put on anything except for Fox. He replied that they are only allowed to play Fox, and that they cannot play any other news network. I wished him a good day and went somewhere else.

At the time, I figured that it was the manager of the local joint who was behind the news embargo, but I returned to the place yesterday (during Happy Hour of course) to confirm it. The bartender told me that--as far as she knew--it is a company wide policy: the other news channels are not programmed into their remote.

Now look: I get my hair cut by a lady who always has a red MAGA hat prominently displayed on her station. She's great, and I won't go anywhere else. And I have no problems eating at Chick-fil-A, though I disagree with some of their social positions. But I won't be setting foot in another PT's Entertainment property.

What's the difference? My barber will still cut my hair and be her usual kind and cheerful self though she knows I'm a lib. And Chick-fil-A will still serve you your sandwich if you're gay and married; these are customer-facing issues, and with a bar, playing a TV station on request is the same.

Why allow only one network, when any given network is distrusted by the majority of viewers? The best play is either to allow no news networks, or to allow all of them.



If you are conservative, put the shoe on the other foot for a minute. Let's say that just as you're leaving for the bar, something juicy comes up about Uranium One, or Benghazi, or (God forbid) QAnon. You get to the bar and ask them to put it on Fox for a minute, and they tell you that their company only allows them to play clips of Rachel Maddow lobbying for free health care and EBT credits for illegal immigrants convicted of violent felonies. Is this a place where you want to spend your valuable drinking money?

The GOP propaganda machine, Fox, has been one of the overall worst things to happen in our country in a very long time. They have followed the methods of Hitler to turn a nation against itself all for power and greed.

As for you, it's simple, find a new bar you like and spend your money there. I can't and won't stay in any establishment if they have Fox on the TV. It is such blatant hate and lying I just can't listen to it.

I get my lunch regularly from a place that always has Fox news on. The people are really nice and the food is very good. I've posted some controversial things of late and have probably made some enemy's but I try to not let politics dictate my entire life. I don't hate people who think differently. I understand we need diversity in all things, including political views. But I totally agree, Fox news horrible. Nothing more than a propaganda machine that's brainwashed a large portion of America.

Bartender likely has no say in the setting of policy. They may also have failed to properly construe the instruction given. Given that you indicate that this is somewhat of a chain operation, have you voiced the concerns through the corporation structure? If so, what response was received?

That being said, if I am sitting in a bar, I am usually glad to have ZERO news programming being aired. I am usually there to watch a sports event that was not airing on a channel in my home programming packages...I definitely would NOT want the national 'news' channels on with sound. Even local news is something I would not be sticking around long for, but I could see a locals bar having at least one television showing local news at the appropriate hours.

Why play only Fox? I think you know the answer to that question.

This probably goes all the way to the top of whomever owns PT's. I've run across a company and was reading their info on Glassdoor (cant remember the name of the company unfortunately) and they will only allow Fox News on their TV's because the CEO is a right wing lunatic.

I can't sit here and tell you what to do and what not to do....it's your life. But for me personally if I knew my barber supported Trump, there is no way in hell I'd give him a dime of my money. I dont care if i'd been going there for my entire life. Trump isnt the problem. He is the result. The people that elected him are the problem.

I’m sure a lot of folks who are regs at that bar think the biggest story in world right now is whatever AOC is being criticized for and not Trumps record budget, his proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, his capitulation to Korea and Russian dictators, or the seemingly endless supply of convicted felons who’ve been at his side these past four years.

During the early 1980s in DC, the Tune Inn on Capitol Hill was a Dems' bar, Bullfeathers was a Republican bar, and the Dubliner was an IRA bar .... patronized all.

However much I sincerely might want a new President come 2020 or did in 1984 0r 1988 or 1992, unless they're literally fighting each other inside, a bar is a bar is bar. Just as a poker game is a poker game is a poker game.

I don't care about the politics angle, but I have to say...reading that someone is going to a PTs Pub (which is a big local sports & gaming bar chain here) to watch the news is something I thought I would never read.

That is exactly what they did. They went with the very best option, NO NEWS NETWORKS.

Fox is not a news network. It is addictive brainwashing nonsense. It has been broadcasting its poison for so long there are now millions of brainwashed addicts. Some are so severely addicted they seemingly need to have the fox noise beamed into their brain 24/7.

Brainwashed addict zombies unable to think for themselves seems like the perfect customer for a place like PTs. Thinking rational adults can go home and watch the ballet on PBS, or what ever, people like that aren't going to drop their entire weekly paycheck on video poker anyways.

A few clarifications:

I was at the bar because I'm always at the bar. Something interesting was going on politically and I wanted to see it play out on TV.

Again, if this was just going on at one location, then good for them, but PT's has 50 or so locations and they all have the same exclusionary rule, according to the bartender I spoke with.

In spite of those numbers, PT's is a regional company centered around town. This may be of interest if you're visiting Las Vegas, or if you live here. That's why I posted it here and not in Pol. As for myself, I'm never visiting one of their bars again. Everyone else can make their own decision, but I think folks should know about it.
