As an aside and as a local, I see those PT's all over the place. Never been inside one. What do you like about them when compared to other local bars? Is it just because you are a regular at many of the locations so you know a lot of people there ie fellow patrons and bartenders?
They're comfortable places with a decent crowd and good nachos. The drinks are a little expensive for a locals joint, but they run half-price drinks from 4PM-6PM and 12AM-2AM every day.

Please tell us all how this is Presidential and how Trump and his supporters are correct. I don't think you realize what a f-ed up time we are currently living in within the United States. The President just threatened US citizens with physical violence. Let that sink in. We have a mentally ill person as President.

Just another day in the deplorable world of Trump though, right? All will be forgiven tomorrow when he says the next crazy thing.

As aside I'm sure you are well aware Trump released his budget a few days ago. While drawing down troops in Syria to 10% of the current level, he is increasing spending for the Overseas Contigency Operations by 139% from $69 billion to $165 billion. If you arent familiar with OCO, this is a scheme developed to separate war funding from actual Pentagon spending so as not to, lol, give us sticker shock on the Pentagon budget.

Meanwhile, Trump is proposing a $1 TRILLION cut to Medicare and Medicaid, along with a $220 billion cut to food stamps over a 10 year period.

Have a great day!

Having gone through a series of links to finally get TO the Brietbart articles (there are two), yours is a rather extreme take on what was published. The snippet that you have taken out of context actually followed some discussion about reforms related to campus speech (where those on the left frequently take steps to no-platform and otherwise silence anyone with whom they disagree).

Out of deference to 2P2 practices about no Brietbart links, I have not added those links here. Suffice it to say, this thread illustrates that the allegations of taking statements out of context is not something that is only occurring on one side of the fence...

Those cuts are needed and long overdue. And food stamps should NOT be a federal issue. That is a State issue. The time has long since gone by for States to generally stand on their own. Instead, as we saw with the dam in California, too many jurisdictions look to the feds for a hand-out in non-emergency situations.

I love you man, we seem to have so much in common.
But nothing you say matters unfortunately.
People who support Trump have their own peculiar reasons and nothing you say has any effect.
I'm saying this because you are too passionate.
Let it go. Don't stress yourself out.
In 1939 there was a rally of thousands of American Nazis in New York city's Madison Square Garden.
What's going on now is nothing new.
We're still here. Our Democracy is still intact.
Let's let it go for now and live our lives.
Pease bro.

But, as any person with common sense would guess, The FBI is doing more than that. Meanwhile, who is protecting us from propaganda that Tucker was spewing only 20 seconds into his show? Those little soundbites like that...where do you think all those 75 year old men sitting around at McDonald's in the morning drinking coffee huddled together talking politics....where do you think they get ideas like these implanted into their brains?

Now if that is not satisfactory, I guess I will take the time and listen to more than 20 seconds of Tucker's show. And yes, I know Tucker isnt a news anchor. But I do believe he has the 2nd highest rated segment in 24 hours of FOX. So if Tucker doesnt qualify, I guess I can go in and listen to some Steve Doocy. If that's not good enough as I realize Doocy is on a popular morning broadcast, I will go in and listen to one of the news anchors make their usual off the cuff lies. So just let me know what is good for you and, if necessary, I'll spend more than 20 seconds doing research.

EDIT: Sorry I was watching Tucker's episode from 3/12/19 I think. Not that it really matter......
It's really to bad you didn't listen at the start of his show if you would have you might have learned something --- this commentary from 3/12/19 fits this thread perfectly.

Anytime any conservative dares to poke our head up the liberal left zealots come running out to try and "play smack the mole ". Realize I do NOT believe all democrats fit this description but the suppression of Freedom of speech of conservative ideas and principles is real and there is no comparable offset by conservatives.

Of course. Trump was talking about getting "politically tough" (as Breitbart says) when mentioning the police, the military, and, lol biker gangs, right? So when Trump says " until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad" what exactly does that mean? Biker gangs are going to have a political debate with the left on CNN? You and I both know what it means. It's a thinly veiled threat of physical violence on the left with "tougher" groups supposedly controlled by Trump.

By the way, the latest overhyped incident involving the punching of the conservative....neither person went to the university.

Please explain to us why cuts are needed to Medicaid and Medicare. Also, what does cutting food stamp funding have to do with whether this should be handled by the states or by the fed? Those are two separate issues.

So this is a freedom of speech issue? Are you saying it's a Constitutional issue? If so, how is the government preventing free speech on university campuses?

You think Ann Coulter is getting shut down and suppressed because she was disinvited to Berkeley due to security concerns (and was subsequently re-invited at a later date, which she turned down)? Hardly. I can go online and find a bunch of her anti-intellectual racist rants as well as find her on various talk shows and on the bookshelves across the country. I would hardly call this suppression of speech.

Universities can choose to have no outside speakers or all outside speakers it wants and anywhere in between. The 1st amendment does not apply to college speakers.

Actually, yes, 1A does apply to SOME universities. A State-operated university is subject to 1A issues. And a speaker who has been invited by a student organization SHOULD have the right to speak...unfortunately, we see too many universities both here and abroad where the event is shut down because someone who disagrees decides to create problems. It is precisely because the left has abdicated all belief in the freedom of speech that we have problems on campus...you don't generally see people from the right shouting down speakers and events on the left. Instead they allow those events to generally go unimpeded.

As to the incident at Berzerkley, at least felony assault charges were filed. SOMEONE in that jurisdiction understands how the judicial system functions. Sadly, no pen time will be imposed since California adopted catch-and-release and decided that punishment offends someone...

I'm just wondering how long during WSOP before someone whines and goes crying to the TD when I show up in a Trump jersey...

What is really too bad is that we have so many people that appear to be incapable of listening to a variety of outlets in an attempt to at least APPEAR to have been open-minded. Instead, the country has become so polarized that the mere mention of Trump causes some to virtually froth at the mouth. Never mind that, even if they don't like the PotUS, there should still be respect accorded the office. Ironically, the left had a habit of chastising any who did not bow down at the feet of the predecessor occupant of the office...never mind the number of lies that came from THAT individual.

I commented in one forum the other day that the only place in Austin that I generally feel safe discussing politics is West Lake Hills. Downtown has clearly become unsafe and APD won't intervene. They even played the game of blaming the victim a few weeks ago in an incident where a hat was involved...that game was supposed to have gone out of style when we quit blaming victims of sexual assault for having dressed too provocatively.

This is not as cut and dried regarding public universities as you would like to make it. These first amendment rights are limited by two things: University policies and state laws. And this is actually unsettled in the Supreme Court. A public university generally has some latitude on whether to allow or disallow a public speaker. Public universities are allowed to establish regulation and requests for speech CAN be denied. But Feiner vs New York ie the hecklers veto should only be applied in extreme cases ie a true emergency.

So you are right in the sense the 1st amendment does apply to public universities (I was wrong there), it is NOT the final word. Restrictions can apply.

And LOL at a single punch getting jail time. What jurisdiction would that happen? But you still go ahead and say because this guy didnt get any jail time, California is soft on "criminals". Those soft liberals dont know how to handle these hardcore criminals. You actually think it's good use of jail space to incarcerate anyone throwing a punch? Get real.

And as far as you wearing Trump gear, like I've said before, I'm all for it and actually encourage it. I'd prefer all the people of your ilk wear it 24/7.

HUH ? 1st amendment does not apply ? Maybe not in Venezuela but last time I checked it still absolutely applies here in the USA . How many times are conservative voices shut down, verbally and physically harassed clearly showing that a faction of the left do NOT want our opinions even HEARD. You yourself have on multiple occasion now name called those that disagree with your vantage point as stupid, idiots, racists ..... I could go back and reread to be absolutely precise but that is your mode of operation. It is your apparent mind set (and i will generalize ) the standard operating procedure of "the left" to immediately resort to name calling and shaming those that do not agree. You call us "liars" and worse and why ..... simply because we adamantly disagree with your position and have not been cowed into silence.

Yes, you are undoubtedly correct that my fellow liberals have a nasty habit of shouting down or shaming people using speech that doesn't conform to their latest PC requirements. But honestly, shall we go through and make a list of the worst tendencies of both sides?

A quick read through this thread shows equally abhorrent tendencies from conservatives, including frothing at the mouth at the chance to "trigger the libs"; who, by the way, are their fellow countrymen and citizens. Their neighbors, teachers, first responders, family members. Not the hated enemy. We can cherry pick the worst elements of each fringe all day long, and continue to generalize and build up the boogeyman on the other side of the aisle in our minds and through incendiary rhetoric. Hate is an intoxicating emotion. I prefer to focus on facts, hence my earlier posts railing against Fox News, an organization that -- bias notwithstanding -- has shown little respect for facts or intellectual honesty.

This is where he simply differ substantially in our opinions. I freely admit I have more tolerance for the hyperbola shown by some Fox commentators than say the beginning to ending slamming of our President by the likes of Mika and Joe, or then name calling of Don Lemon, or the utter disrespect shown my correspondents like Jim Accosta. Look I do NOT think Pres Trump walks on water .......... but if he did MSNBC would report that he can't swim.

I might disagree with Cooper but he is reasonable and might not agree with Van Jones but the man is intelligent and I would rather listen to 8 hours of him than 8 minutes or Al Sharpton.

I support the President because I don't want open borders, I don't think we can judge events of 50 - 100 -150 years ago by today's PC standards, I don't think it make an iota of sense to have a $250K fine and imprisonment on the books if you destroy a bald eagles egg or (lessor ) a Sea Turtle egg and can legally abort a human child. I find the GND a complete and utter financial farce, and yes glutton me would like to eat a Hamburger if I choose to farting cow or not. I think spending $82K a year for illegal immigrants who "turn themselves in" is insane and I am appalled by Sanctuary cities and their cost in both dollars and American Citizens lives. I think much like Margret Thatcher as it relates to Socialism ........ It works fine until you run out of other people's money............ I am disgusted by the deficient (by both parties) and believe we over did the Corp tax reduction and if asked I would have set the rate at 26 % but MANDATED the 5% differential be used ONLY to reduce the deficit. I am fundamentally against single payer healthcare and do NOT believe it is a Universal right.......... old fashion I know I think you must EARN it. I think Pelosi idea of changing the voting age to 16 one of the silliest and purely political things I have ever heard of a party leader.

Sorry Fox news may share some of these points but if you spend any time listening to the talking heads on CNN or MSNBC you could fairly believe that almost all of the above Santuary Cities, Socialism, abortion, abolishing ICE, and lax immigration enforcement and the almost non stop denegration of our President are main stream belief's News flash they may be on the coasts but they sure are not in Middle Class Middle America and that is what i view is the real problem with the "News". Trust me I search for middle ground reporting .......... but IMO it is very tough to find.

Besides the nachos, I've only had their burger, which was all right. Valuewise we're probably better off going to Ellis Island, getting drunk on pints of their decent $2.50 homebrews, and singing karaoke.

@RealMcCoy - it's cool to hear reasonable opinions from the other side of the aisle. I respect your views even though I don't agree with some of them (especially the environmental issues, which I think you may have a misunderstanding of - I like my burgers too). Thanks for keeping an open mind and resisting the urge to go all-in on Red vs. Blue.

I am a conservative but that doesn't make me believe my way is the only way and that reasonable men can't have differing vantage points. Or that only " my side" has all the right answers and that anyone that disagrees with me is stupid or an idiot or brainwashed. Thank you for the consideration of a civil conversation.
