Cost for a week in vegas

I used to play poker for living when I was in college, but now I'm working full time as a senior software developer and I play poker 1-2 times a week for an extra income. I consider myself a winning player. How much will it cost me to spend a week in vegas? Here in Peru I have a very high salary and is about 30k a year. I know it's not a lot in USA but here the cost of life is really cheap and most people make less than half of that so I can really live like a king here. The casinos in my area are the equivalent to 1-2$ and mid stakes are about 2-5$. How much bankroll should I take and what will be the cost of a low cost hotel? I'm also bringing money to party. I'm still really young (28 years)

I recently returned home from 5 nights in LV. Stayed at Encore, total was $1,102 with resort fees (I got a deal, normal rates much higher). Meals & snacks for trip cost approx. $810. Only alcoholic beverages I had were free at poker table (plus tips). Advise you to avoid low cost hotels in LV...they suck, their patrons are generally low-life riff-raff, and if this is a vacation for you why not live it up a little?

Dude's telling you he makes $30k a year, and you're advising him to dump $2k on food/hotel, even when he specifically asked for low-cost accommodations. Lol.

Re: Cost for a week in vegas

Depending on the quality of the room situation you want to be in, a week in Vegas can run you from $25-30/day (Air BnB) to $1200/day in a suite on strip depending on the time of the year. Meals can run you $10-40/meal, drinks $4-20 depending on the place, and the average Uber/Lyft ride is $7-12 bucks.

I always wonder if people who make these posts sit around waiting for a response here, or do they Google/Expedia/Airbnb search answers to such easy questions?

Maybe you should look into flight/hotel package deals(for a better combined price) on online travel sites. You should be able to sort by price from low to high on the sites.

As far as poker bankroll needed, a usual buy-in for 1/2, 1/3 and 2/5 can be 100 big blinds. So depending on what limit you're looking to play in and how many sessions you're looking to buy into that week, you can figure out how much money you can set aside for poker.

I'm not poor in here btw haha. Here the rent for a 3 bedroom apartment in a good area is about 900$ and the cost for each food is 3-5$. If you go to a fancy restaurant it's 15$ the plate. I went to south beach a couple of months ago and saw that everything was really ***** expensive.

Planning to spend about 1000$ in this trip in food & hotel. For the comments here I guess that it will be more than enough. I'm thinking of bringing about 3000$ as a bankroll to play poker in the 1-2 table

Re: Cost for a week in vegas

You can find low cost hotels like Harrah's, Ballys, LINQ, and Flamingo for around $50 or less a night depending on time of year and day of the week. You still have to pay resort fees which is usualy $40 per night. I think you should be able to get a room for 7 nights for around $500 or so with everything included.

As far as food, you can always eat at places like In-N-Out, Earl of Sandwich, etc for around $10 per meal. If you want a buffet or a nice sit down meal, you are looking at $20-$25 per meal and up.

As far as drinks and nightlife go, that's a wild card. You can drink for free when you are gambling and you can also buy liquor at a corner store to save money. I would recommend not buying drinks at a bar. It's crazy expensive.

All in all, I'd say you could do a week in Vegas for $150-$200 a day depending on how cheap you want to be. That doesn't include airfare or gambling money though. If you are going to play poker for a solid week, I'd make sure to bring at least 10 full buy-ins of whatever stakes you plan on playing.

Thanks a lot. That's a really good advice. Not planning to be that cheap tho

Not saying you're poor - but no one needs to be spending $400/day on hotel/food to have a decent time in Vegas, even on the strip.

Want the most bang for your buck? Make a 1-day reservation each day you’re there on Hotwire.com (wait until 10pm each night, book it via Hotwire, then walk to the front-desk and check in). You can stay at top properties every night you’re in LV this way and stay within your budget. Just pack your stuff and stow the bags at the bell desk for where you’re likely to stay each night. I used to use this Hotwire method years ago when I was trying to stay out there on the cheap (not anymore).

Also, try mycheapvegas.com. For every new two-night reservation at Aria and Bellagio, they’ll give you $125 food and drink credit (I believe this promo needs to be booked by end of Feb., but that site randomly has very good promos). I’ve done this before, it’s awesome. Discounted rates on rooms too. Staying in the nicer hotels in LV absolutely will enhance your stay.

Think outside the box, and vacation like you mean it (I should TM that, LOL!)

Is this a troll posting? You are a senior software dev and you don't know how to use internet for your research?

I get that you are from Peru but if you work with computers, regardless of where you live, then you should know the basics of internet search/query for most of things, even things outside of your country.

I lead software devs/qa from different countries daily. And your post looks like it's about a.) troll, b.) lazy, c.) lying about your job or d.) all of the above.

Vacation like you mean it? Is that code for hookers and blow? If so, how much money is needed for a week of that?

I was referring to a nice room and quality food, but I suppose that line could mean different things to different peeps

I think that this is probably the best recap. You might also want to consider some of the off-strip hotels (e.g. Orleans, Rio, Gold Coast).

Also remember to make sure about the "resort" fees because they are a way for the hotels to appears less expensive than they really are.

Software engineers don't surf the web for a living, lol.

OP, sign up for player's clubs online for Caesars (Total Rewards), etc. They might email you some discount offers.

Re: Cost for a week in vegas

How much you have to spend to have fun in Vegas is extremely personal and might range from below $100/day to a couple grand. There are budgets options for everything and it’s up to you if you want to go the cheap route or not.

A friend of mine had a girls weekend in LV two weeks ago and I know they each spent around $100 on Spirit round trips and four of them shared a two queen bedroom at PH for 3 nights. So I guess there’s a decent chance they didn’t pay more than $300 each for flights/hotel/food for a 4day weekend.

this, the strip is gonna have rates for everyone that wants to come. easy under 100 a night, some bookings have no resort fees also.

big lol at $30-$1200/day for rooms and 10-40 for food. if we're getting a suite might as well eat at l'atelier every meal too

Good point. Yeah OP, whatever deal you look at, verify if the daily resort fee that hotels charge is included or not, because that fee can be about an extra $30 a night on top of the room rate.

Off-strip plus everything downtown sucks. The poker action is on the strip and it’s nice to not have to uber back to your crummy hotel room for a nap from time to time.

Years ago, when money was tight, I used to stay at Excal, Lux, Ballys, Flamingo, etc. My last time in one of those holes I’ll never forget. It was Excalibur, stayed in Royal Tower (room had been recently renovated, was ok). Next door to me was probably 3 or 4 Mexican couples. They were so f-ing loud, like all the time. It’s like they never left their room, jabbering as loudly as you could imagine with really loud Mexican music (and I LOVE Mexican music, but not at 4am). I never called management on them because I’m too damn nice sometimes (I should have). Most miserable experience in LV ever, was exhausted when I returned home.

Here’s the view from my room at Encore last week: https://twitter.com/VegasPokerShark/...91503397093376. I should have snapped a few pics of interior but didn’t. The room was great, awesome water pressure for shower, and VERY quiet at night. No riff-raff (big plus to me).

If you dont already have then I suggest you create a Total Rewards account. They will give you a bunch of weekday comp nights at the smaller properties like Harrahs, PH and Flamingo. Decent places, all on the strip, and you can get 3-4 comp nights for weekdays (unless its a special event/date).

That’s probably the cheapest rooms at Encore, low floor and kinda ****ty view.

And yes, $10-40/day for food seems really low, unless you want to do intermittent fasting and go to a buffet once a day or restrict yourself to fast food or get stuff like breakfast items from Walgreens or CVS.

At least on my shorter trips, I probably spend more money on food than on my hotel room. There are a lot of good restaurants in Vegas but even if you stick to the off Strip locations you’re probably spending over $50/day. I guess the average tourist is already out of $10-15 for breakfast at their hotel Starbucks.

The best time of year to go is in December. The room rates are the lowest. I stayed at Bally's for about $70 a night including all fees last December.
