PLO in Vegas and the famous trick PLO in Vegas and the famous trick

Hi Guys ,

I'm visiting Vegas in October and staying at the Hard Rock .

I used to go regularly to Vegas to get my Fixed Limit fix but basically haven't visited since black Friday .

A lot has changed since the good old days of grinders invading the Imperial Palace. Lots of poker rooms have closed and hotels closed and reopened etc... so I've got 2 questions for the locals.

1- where can I play PLO on a regular basis 1-2 up to 5-10 . (5-5 is my regular game)
2- does the infamous $20 trick still work at check in at most hotels ? Last time I got a kick ass upgrade to a Jacuzzi suite . I'm staying at the Hard Rock .

Thanks

Aria your best shout for PLO, but check bravo app for live updates on what games are running when you arrive.

$20 trick works most times, as long as your not staying for a long time or during a peak weekend which is in high demand.

Venetian and Encore have good PLO games. Aria is more consistent, but so are the players. Lots of regs. See the same players every time I go, which is only two to four times a year. Also, waits at Aria can be insane. Great floor and dealers, though, and very good service/drinks.

Bravo is great.

No advice on the $20 trick, sorry.

IP is probably the only dump in the world that people have fond memories of. The ultimate low roller degen fantasy, especially in combination with the old O'Shea's. Beer pong, Burger King and then waiting 10 minutes for an elevator to get back to your room, walking past other rooms with walls so paper thin you could differentiate between people having "regular" sex and where a hooker was at work.

11 nights is a long time to try and get an upgrade on a room for $20.
Unless I'm missing your sarcasm!

20 dollar trick worked for me last year but they handed me the money back and i got a free upgrade. I think it's worth a try. Worst case they just say no. Not sure about a long stay if that will be allowed though.

I've tried the $20 trick twice. One time it worked and the other time it "worked".

1. Mandalay Bay: Got upgraded to a suite, albeit on a lower floor. Ok for me, I don't care about view too much. But bingo, worked.

2. Wynn: I got upgraded from a standard room to a "panoramic" room. Basically the exact same room but with an awesome view. If booked online it runs an extra $20 per night, so it "worked" but not as much as I had hoped.

IP with a seat facing the dealertainers and insane-fast drink service (remember the waitresses had their pictures on the table felt) was the nuts.

Almost always the $20 trick will work or the money will get returned - so it's probably the best value in Vegas.

Pretty much Aria is you're only consistent option. Occasionally a game at Wynn or Venetian will break out. 2/5 at Aria has a 10$ rock though so the game plays bigger. 1/2 game is standard $5 bring in, $15 opening raise. $200/$500 min max buy in.

The IP was such a dump I suspect a few of those latter rooms may have represented the "famous $20 trick" OP referenced.

(Don't forget the infamous Hitler's Birthday party.

Last I knew Aria didn't allow button straddles in their 1/2 PLO game, while Venetian did - which tended for the game to run a bit larger. I don't know about Wynn.

So how did it go? We just got back yesterday. Played PLO exclusively at Aria (2/5/10 rock and 1/2/5) and it went extremely well. Had a blast. Lots of regs (we go enough that we recognize players -- and they recognize us) but some other tourists, too. Really good games.

I, too, have fond memories of IP!
