My husband and I are headed to Vegas for my b-day (53 – how is that possible? I feel (and act) half my age – except when I first stand up).

Thanks to some stellar roulette play by my husband and a friend on our November trip, we now have a host and are staying at Paris for “free” – excluding the roulette losses and the ridiculous $39/day resort fee. Gee, thanks for the wifi for two, fitness center access, and unlimited local calls (I’m sure we’ll make a ton of those!).

We get in late March 24, but the flight was basically free on American. Our regular Delta was way more expensive. We probably won’t get upgraded on American, but free cheap wine, boxed food, and a little more space wasn’t worth 100s of dollars or tens of thousands of points. We did get an exit row, so we’ll be fine.

For my “fancy” b-day meal, we are doing brunch at the top of the Eiffel tower. I have no idea how the food is, but the prix fixe menu looks great and my husband wanted to take me there. I was not thrilled that he spent extra for a window seat, but he is thoughtful and the best husband ever, so I got over it quickly (I’m very frugal except for poker, wine, and food). I need to check their corkage fee.

My dad and his wife are joining us Saturday night (his b-day is March 31), and on Sunday (my b-day) I want to go play pool and have AYCE sushi. We had planned a trip last year with my dad before the pandemic hit, and he and his wife started learning NLHE, so I hope to get them into a small tourney Monday. Maybe the Flamingo, but I’ll have to check Bravo to see what’s available. We might also take a quick trip to Red Rock Canyon or similar.

The rest of the time, Pete and I will be playing PLO at the Aria, although we might hit up the deep 2/3 at Sahara Thursday night. Please say hello if you see us. We will most likely have a glass of wine/champagne in our hands.

On Tuesday we are driving to Santa Fe and then to Albuquerque Wednesday to visit Pete’s daughter. Flying home on April 5.

Pics, etc. to come.

Ms. Javanewt, have a good & safe trip and happy birthday. Continue growing older, but not up.

Looking forward to your tales.

We are staying at Bellagio for 5 nights in mid-April (my 50th was last year and wife's is this year), checking in on the 8th so I look forward to reading your intel on the PLO since that's all I play. As of 7pm local time last night, there were 15 NLH games at Bellagio going on but no PLO at all so I expect to be at Aria most nights.

For meals, have a Friday evening reservation at STK but after that, who knows!

Aria is definitely the best for PLO, but check Venetian and Wynn, too. Have fun!

I hope I don't jinx myself, but I checked the weather and it's supposed to be sunny with highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the mid to upper 50s. Perfect! It's supposed to rain the whole time here and be at least 10 degrees colder

Also, we are going to Rum Runners for pool on Sunday. I was worried that they closed because they didn't show up in a Google search for pool halls in Vegas, but I finally found them. (We've been twice before, but I couldn't remember the name.) Right next door to Gorilla sushi. Weird that there is a Gorilla Cafe with pool tables, too, supposedly in the same area where you can have sushi delivered. I love the atmosphere in Rum Runners, though. They even have good food, but I love sushi!

Suggest you make a backup reservation. March is windy in the desert, and they shut down the elevator in high winds.

Thanks. Good to know. The forecast looks good right now. Maybe we'll just do Mon Ami Gabi as a backup.

Aria PLO can be pretty tight sometimes. I love the casino and design of the place but poker games are usually infested with pros everywhere.

Venetian for some reason has good PLO action when the game is running.

Sounds fun. If you don't mind sharing how much/long did you have to gamble to get the room ballpark?

I did not ask my husband for details, because I do not want to know! It came from one night of roulette, though, so we'll leave it at that. I am confident the room was much less than what my husband lost We actually have a timeshare in Vegas, but who's going to turn down a basically free room? (They also gave my dad and his wife two nights.)

Before covid, we'd go to Vegas four or five times a year (we went twice last year), and we play at Aria enough to know most of the regulars and dealers, so we know the games well. (Some of them know us by name -- it helps being a couple or at least the fact that one of us is a middle-aged female PLO player.)

We go to Venetian occasionally and have played in two of the deepstack PLO tournaments there. I agree it's worth the walk if Bravo says a PLO game is going.

I have a small sample size, but the couple times I've played it I couldn't stand it, the game was so tight. Probably partially skewed by the insane online action.

I have never had a problem with tight Aria PLO. I mean sometimes the 1/2 game is a little tight, but the 2/5 is usually good and the 5/5 w/ rock game is a blast. Granted, I've only been once since covid and the plexiglass/masks were in place. I'll definitely let you know what I think in a day or two

We leave this evening. The roll picture for good luck. I am left-handed and fan my cards upside down. It is tough for me to fan dollar bills! I guess I will post shoes later but I'm a chick and I know nobody cares

Ignore my right ankle. I have two metal plates in it from jumping off of a bucking horse 20 years ago. My bones snapped in half just above my ankle, but the plates work great. My lower leg was at a 45° angle. Thank God I was living with an emergency room doctor at the time :-) I still ride and I still play soccer!

And we are spending the night in Dallas. We have a morning flight that gets to Vegas around 1. Turns out a few friends will be there, too. One of them is my husband's roulette partner :-) The sky was beautiful, but it was the storm coming in that delayed our flight.

Petit dejeuner at DFW. Got to the airport early. We are not sitting together and we lost our exit row but we are hopeful.
