If you need entertainment at the table, play 5/10+ with guys like borg23. They provide you with the atmosphere you’re craving in exchange for a little more cash. And if you can provide me with a really soft 5/10 game, I am going to be exactly the type of player you and your rich friends want in their game. I’ll even listen to their business ideas and and provide feedback if they want me to. But if I sit down in a public card room to play 1/2, I am exactly as social as I want to be that day.
You think there are
not headphone-wearing, wanna-be pro, silent grinders playing $1-2, $1-3 ?
I agree nobody makes a living wage grinding $1-2, so what ?
The "basic point" is really that, since you are NOT going to make a living at $1-2, which you admit, why not make it recreational, which loosens up games generally and increases engagement by lesser players....
I get the "basic point" corollary also, too many headphone-wearing, wanna-be pro, silent grinders playing $1-2, $1-3 hurts the quality of the recreational game experience at $1-2, $1-3. Maybe these "mini-pros" should be practicing their interactive skills for when they move up to stakes where you say people will respect their conversational ability ? Playing at silent tables is less interesting than playing tennis against a wall.
Not much recreational value = not much value to a rec. If me and my "rich friends" you imagine I have are playing $1-2, $1-3, perhaps you CAN make more money being exactly the type of player we enjoy playing with.
(Btw, I've never heard any real discussion of business ideas at a poker table, other than among a group of folks in the same industry. Used to get that a lot in Costa Rica with largely online gaming and betting gossip. Never in Las Vegas, in 25+ years playing $1-2, $1-3 here, for recreation.
I sometimes
will ask folks at the $1-2, $1-3 tables about
THEIR businesses, which many tourists/business travelers really like to talk about. Hell, I'll even wear my convention badge during G2E or the Marijuana business conventions. What someone wants to share about HIS business is not too boring a topic to politely hear them out; they like to talk. Even Foatie's hypothetical dick-swinging is pretty funny in real life enactment ... lighten up,
you too are just playing $1-2.)
