Lol thanks. I remember being a broke college student, staying at the crappiest places and playing $1 blackjack and roulette at the Sahara. I still remember walking from Sahara to Excalibur to play in my first ever poker tournament (it was the cheapest tourney I could find on the strip) and busting in an hour and walking back because I was too cheap to use the bus.

I stayed in so many hotels over a period of time that I was sort of obsessed with looking at the air filters since I have allergies and could always call and have them put a fresh one in at most hotels. El Cortez air filter had not been changed in probably a year. lol

In addition my room was right next to a bar across the street that left their door open at night and played super loud music all night. I actually got out of a 4 night stay that was booked thru hotwire after 1 night.

Stayed at WWW probably 11 years ago, so I think its a days inn now? Maybe its better but still its right next to a parking lot where there are dozens of running semi trucks all night long making a bunch of noise and also a lot of shady people around. Didn't feel safe at all. Probably the shadiest hotel I stayed at in Vegas.

The room was like a regular motel so if you're just using the room to sleep in it shouldn't be too bad. From what I remember the room seemed clean but outdated and the bathroom was tiny.

Pros:
Cheap room, food, and gambling
Complimentary shuttle to and from airport, just call them when you land

Cons:
Far from the strip (about a 20-30 min walk to MGM)
Not a lot to see or do here

pig4bill's post reminded me I forgot to add Monte Carlo to my list. Only stayed there 1 time on a fluke. I was playing poker there and went to leave, I had used valet and there was a big gas leak of some kind in the garage and could not get my car for unknown amount of hours and said to check with front desk to see what can be worked out.

At the time I was living in Vegas and lived about 15 minutes car ride away and they offered me a paid cab home, but I said what about my ride back? I will have to pay for cab back? and they said yes. So I said can you just comp me 1 night hotel for the night and they said yes, and my car was available in the morning.

This is a fun look back on my history in town actually...

In chronological order:

The Klondike (is now a dirt lot)
NYNY
Bally's (many many times...comps there were amazingly great for a non-gambler like me, for about 6 years)
Mandalay Bay
Rio
Aria
The Tuscany (secretly great in many ways)
Silver Sevens (not great in any way)

It's a short list, but I've stayed at Ballys maybe 10 times, Rio I think 4 times, and Aria and Tuscany twice. The Tuscany is 1.5 blocks behind Bally's on Flamingo, has a fantastic pool if your goal is a relaxing lounge time by the pool, and has a great feel of being away from the strip even though it's walking distance.

I've had about 20 trips and have stayed in:
Venetian
NYNY
Planet Hollywood
IP/Quad/Linq
Flamingo
Gold Coast
Rio
And most recently SLS

SLS was pretty cool. Great casino and restaurants. I didn't mind how small the rooms were and it connects directly with the monorail. Would def. stay there again.

I liked staying there. It is off the strip but right across from the Rio so it was perfect for playing in the WSOP. The room was actually much nicer than I expected for a standard room. Decent sized flat screen TV with clean and modern furniture and a comfortable bed.
