Orleans to see a movie? Orleans to see a movie?

I would argue that O8 is a successful movie (don't know about "very" yet, kind of depends on playoff and international gross) and that the nearly-empty theater is not an anomaly. There's an abundance of supply on that side of things, more than enough to accommodate demand. From the looks of it that theater has the movie playing on two screens which would mean about 30 showtimes over the weekend, and they probably sold 2000-2500 tickets (so 60-80/per showtime). I would expect at least a few of them to feel relatively empty.

I'm very bored at work today.

Agree - you make a movie about a caper that stars basically an all-white female cast, then the O8 results are about as good as you could ever expect. I’m sure the studio is very happy with it.

Just because the studio is going to make money doesn't mean the theaters are full.

I don't know why an empty theater is considered bad (I intentionally wait for the crowds to thin so I can talk and fart and shoot guns at the screen) but I can see why people might be disappointed at a showing with only 20 people in it.

I'll just say it - Oceans 8 is a bad movie. I just saw Tag however, and although the premise is ridiculous, it was pretty funny. I had to spend a couple hours trying to get untilted, so went to the movies.

I’d have been excited about O8 if it had been set in Vegas. I always used to watch 11 and 13 before my summer trip to get amped for Vegas. Probably the same reason I never got excited for 12, no Vegas! Orleans to see a movie?

I like Century Orleans because all of the theaters I have seen have recliners and the $5 Tuesday promotion is great.

What other movie theaters do you recommend around Vegas?

Isn't it half points on food all the time? I get food from the deli place at Sam's town from time to time, good carrot cake and chef salads, they quoted my comp balance it was twice what I thought. And it seems only half my points go away after I use for food there. I don't track too tightly tho.

It's not exactly half, but points go farther at some restaurants than others. It's generally 600 points per dollar at restaurants owned by the casino, and 1000 for others.

I think it was about 7000 points for a movie pass at Orleans but don't remember for sure. Just call or go to the B Connected desk at Orleans or Sam's town and they should be able to explain and give you balance.

Agreed, there's just something about 11 and 13 that gets a degen like me amped up. 12 is ho hum in my book.

Don't watch the original Ocean's 11 with the Rat Pack, though. It's depressing.

Why do they have you choose seat at Orleans?

It's reserved seating, like most new movie theaters with oversized seats.

I enjoyed the oversized seat for my oversized ass.

But in dark I sat where I wanted. The theater was 10% full.

I first thought you were charged more for certain seats.

Should point out that palms is $5 on Mondays, though when I went to see most were sold out. Super comfortable recliners though.

Didn't they have an IMAX? Never went to it but thought I saw some advertising.

Palms has iMax... a proper iMax screen. there are many theaters that say they have iMax but it's not the 70mm iMax screen.
the issue with the palms is the sound system... it's not the best. Red Rock iMax (not a proper iMax screen, just large format) has the best sound system (Klipsch)

Omnimax was better than all the rest. You sat inside a giant ball and were completely immersed. Unfortunately Caesars Palace tore it down to build the Forum shops.

I don't ever go to the movies lately but this Movie Pass thing looks pretty awesome.
$10/month for 1 movie per day, everyday, covers like 90% of theaters including Palms and
The Orleans.

Movie Pass is burning through cash at a tremendous rate because the business model is not working out as planned. So, what happens to your pass when it goes bankrupt?

It doesn't work anymore, and you stop paying $10 per month?

Bingo

I know waaaaaaay too much about MP and their operations, and they will cease to exist eventually. But my advice to any semi-frequent moviegoer is to ride that gravy train for as long as it lasts, there's no downside unless you're paying for an annual membership (don't do that).

AMC and Cinemark both have their own subscription models, which may or may not be better depending on how you use it.

Side note: MP announced today they were going to start surge-pricing. It's a tacit admission that their business model doesn't work (which everyone with a brain sees anyway).

Good grief, did they get somebody from Zimbabwe to oversee their point system?

Soon enough it's going to be:

"Thank you for dining with us sir that will be $13, or 21.4 quadrillion rewards points."

"I'd like to charge this using my Super Ultra Iridium Plus credit card."

"Thank you for using our branded card, I'm happy to offer you a 976 trillion point reward for using it."

The previews and commercials for this had me interested in this.

Unfortunately, it's getting killed by reviewers. (about 30% on RT with more reviews coming in)

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the..._murders_2017/

By comparison:
South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut is at 81%.
Beavis and Butthead Do America is at 72%.
Team America: World Police is at 77%.

I was hoping for that level of quality.
